Brooklyn Giselle

Oh my god I MISSED THIS!!! I was thinking about what crochet project to take on the flight tomorrow, and I thought "I shall bring satindesire's socks" and then I thought OH MY GOD SHE HAD THE BABY!!!! And I missed it!

A thousand congratulations, and I will be working on your socks over the weekend!

Dood! She's eight days old, and we still only have one pic??? What's up with that?

And where's the post-partum pic(s) of mommy?

Yay! I can't wait to see them!

No post partum pics of me, thank you very much. I gained too much weight during my pregnancy (35 pounds or so) and I am very much not feeling pretty right now.

I've got more pictures of Brooke on my myspace page, but Mister hasn't taken any more of her lately on his phone, which is what we're using as our camera. I've been struggling with a pretty bad case of postpartum depression, which I'm going to see my doctor about tomorrow morning (hopefully some medication and counseling can get my head straightened out soon!) so I haven't really been doing a lot of fun picture-taking either. Or much of anything except trying to take care of Brooke as best I can through this.

At least you know what's up and that it's a normal condition. You'll get through this.

As an aside, considering how sexy you looked with baby, I'm sure that a bit of extra weight isn't going to detract one bit from your good looks.

Remember, I'm the guy who almost never finds pregnant women sexy.

As much as I appreciate the compliment, I don't feel that way. I'm sorry to disappoint but that's just the way I feel right now. Until I can get rid of some of this baby weight and until I can get my head shrunk, I'm not going to take any pictures of myself. I just don't feel attractive right now. I'm sorry.

Many of my friends had postpartum depression. Don't sweat it honey. They have very good drugs these days! And I gained a ton of weight, but lost it pretty quickly doing the South Beach diet and exercising. You will be fine. Just keep checking in with your doctor, asking Mister and family, friends for help and you will be just fine. Please PM if I can point you in the direction of websites, books, etc.

Losing baby weight is much easier than losing "fat" weight, isn't it? In the latter, your body has adapted to being the weight you are. But I think with baby weight, the body put it on for a specific reason, and although you still have to work, it's easier than "fat" weight.

Or I could be totally wrong...just a theory?

I'm breastfeeding, and so I burn an extra 500kc a day just producing milk. The weight should come off of me pretty readily.

The baby weighs so much, and then you have water weight, and then the rest is...excess weight.

Your abdomen will go back to normal though. The stretched out shape is temporary. I tried to ask my OB about this after birth and she just said, "that's all you. Diet and exercise" Lol, thanks bitch! I finally went to a Mommy and me class and the teacher informed me that the five months pregnant look goes down fairly quickly. My OB was such a bitch.

Heeeeeey.

That was in no way meant to put any pressure you, ma'am.

I know that you're not great on picking up snark right now, so I'll just be all blunt and sincere.

We like you. We love the way you look. You're the best. We'll be here all the while through, sending you our good vibes, and we'll all have a big happy moment when you feel better.

Thank you sweetheart. Your support means a lot.

Tax season is almost upon us, so Mister has to start traveling again. He's been out of town twice this week alone. And since he can't have sleepless nights, I care for Brooklyn overnight and he sleeps. It's quite exhausting, but I won't have him crashing and killing himself by falling asleep at the wheel.

My parents have told us they would be happy to babysit her overnight so that we can both rest anytime. That helps a lot. As a matter of fact, they watched her last night so we were both able to rest a full night with no interruptions. It was a nice change, and grandma and grandpa got their granddaughter all day, so everyone was happy!

I'm glad there are good medications on the market now, I was kind of worried about that.

Oh good Lord, I'm sorry honey, I totally took you wrong. Thank you for clearing that up, that makes me feel much better.

I breastfed too but I did need to kickstart the weight loss with the diet. Everyone is different though. Just saying don't freak if you hit a plateau.

Good!

No apologies necessary. We're super happy and proud of our newest mommy around here.

I won't say I'm on a 'diet' so to speak, because I've been eating like this for years now and it doesn't feel like a diet, ya know? But I avoid sugar and processed foods, and stick to eating a lot of fruits and veggies, eggs, chicken, whole grains, etc. The exercise part is my problem, with my SPD not quite back to normal, my pelvis and hips still make walking painful and stairs just out of the question. I -have- been making myself walk and my stitches tell me so. *laughs* I'm sure in a week or two my pelvis will go back to normal and it won't hurt so badly. Then I can really start getting some walking in.

I miss the gym. :(

I would like to get down to at least my pre-pregnancy weight but I'd be even happier if I could get down to about 145 or so. At my height, I think that's a really good weight for me.

It takes 9-12 months to [completely] physically recover from pregnancy and labor. If you try to cut corners on your recovery (diet, overdo things physically, etc), it can/may have an impact on your nursing relationship, and recovery.

Your job for the next 6-8 weeks is to rest. For the next month, the most difficult meal you should cook is a PB&J sandwich. After your stitches have healed, the most physical activity you should engage in is a 30 minute walk each day. Sleep when the baby sleeps for the first 6 weeks or so. Stay hydrated. Eat a normal healthy diet- whole grains, fresh fruits/veggies, lean meats/proteins, a treat every now and then. The extra calories needed (on average) for a nursing mother can be had with a peanut butter sandwich (on whole grain) and glass of milk.

See my previous post. It takes an average of 9 months for the pelvic ligaments to reverse the softening necessary to give birth, and for the pelvis to come back together (although it will probably never return to pre-birth status). It took 9 months to get your body ready for birth; give yourself 4-6 months of adjustment to motherhood before trying to undo it. :)

I was thinking about the Duggar mom earlier today. I think she's period-phobic.

I think at some point her uterus is going to rebel [explode], she'll bleed out/have an amniotic embolism, and her kids will be left without a mother.

(I know, I know... gee CM, tell us what you really think.)

They just need to stop having sex, for Christ's sake. There's got to be a physical limitation to how many children that woman can have before her body just breaks down!

Those people scare me.

And this is one reason why they scare me. She's no spring chicken, and every pregnancy is fraught with potential danger. The older she gets, the more possible complications pop up. Sure, she pops em out like Old Faithful in Yellowstone, but one day their streak will end.

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating you go on any crazy diet or start training for a marathon. Definitely recover for a while and take it slowly. Just saying that you can lose the weight and it will be fine.

I really feel sorry for their kids. They can't have time with their parents like they need. And the older kids get stuck taking care of the younger ones. It's a very unfair life for them.

Congratulations Satin. She's beautiful! I hope things get better soon!:rose:

Congratulations SatinD, she is absolutely gorgeous, albeit a bit chinky eyed.
