Bro question since we are talking about shopping. When you hold the door for a lady, which I’m sure we all do, and she doesn’t say thank you or smile at you, do you ever think about picking her up and setting her back outside?

For real though, I don't really expect a thank you. For me it's something that I should be doing anyway, regardless of a thank you or not. Now, if I hold it for a fellow man I do expect a thank you or at least a nod.

Some may think that's chauvinist, I think it's just chivalrous.

This is my thought exactly. I do things for others because I want to and that doesn’t require thanks. If they ask me to do something for them and then don’t say thank you, that is a totally different matter

I hold the door open for people all the time. I like to think it might make their day better or easier and spreading some joy is cool. I don't mind if they don't say thanks. I do get annoyed when they won't just walk through because of some internal belief that doing so makes some kind of negative comment about themselves. Just keep walking.

As far as doors, even I will hold them open for older people or those with kids. Most times, if I'm walking through and someone is behind me, I'll keep it pushed open for others to grab. I just think of it as common courtesy. I have no expectations, except to make someone's day a little easier.

I love this approach to holding open doors for others who are behind you, but riddle me this, how far is too far to hold the door open. Have you ever had it where you are holding the door thinking that the person's going to come fast, and then they are super slow walker. You end up at the door for like 15 or 20 seconds, and it's just super awkward. I've run into that a few times, and it is just such a strange situation to be in.

I was so excited for that when I got my place, except the bathroom is on the first floor, and when I walk out of it, I can see out of my massive living room window and it looks at a park that all the little kids play at.....
Every now and again I forget to close my blinds before hopping in the shower and there is this awkward dash that happens. If only my main floor was a little bit higher

I have, but I've also been in the opposite situation where I thought I've been a gentleman but the lady as soon her hand makes contact with the door has said "thank you" which paired with her facial expression might as well have been "fuck off" it's a fine line
