British Women had more sex in the 50's

All I could think of as I read this, is imagine how sparse the data would be if it weren't for Tatelou?

:)

HA! :p

They did it on average of twice a week and most women now find that too much? Bloody hell! What is wrong with them? ;)

I know I go on about it, probably too much, but I really can never get enough. Can't explain my high libido, either. Maybe I should contact those who did that study and offer myself up for research. I do think this is true, though: the more you have, the higher your sex-drive, thus the more you want to have.

Lou - doing her bit for Britain.

Actually, I was the author of this study. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Further study will be done at the London-Heathrow Marriott, room 1371 tomorrow night at eight.

In the UK there weren't many other free entertainments in the 1950s. For many families money didn't get easier until the mid-1960s or later.

Ownership of a TV, even rented, was a luxury. Winding up a gramophone every four minutes could pall.

What else could a married couple do? Talk?

What?

I know, one of those exploding myths. ;)

Logic alone says this has to be so.
How else would there still be British women...and men?

Immaculate conception??

traps set......waiting patiently... :p

Well, the US does send thousands of men and women over during each World War.

What did the Brit populace say about Yanks last time? Oh yea, "Over here, overpaid, and oversexed"

scampers into hole, and holds Doormouse for comfort

Maybe they need to send some of those 'Japanese condoms' over to Britain to stop the bastards breeding. :p

runs away REAL quick, dodging traps :D

You're not getting any until I'm good and ready, my girl. Just stay put and don't make a sound.

Not based on a study, but Kaitlen Whatzhername (Irish sounding name) of the New Yorker magazine calins the same about American Women. And there was a Newsweek (?) story a while back on the "Sexless Marriage"

I think Newsweek attributed it to women and men putting more time in to work/stress of modern life.

Kaitlen attributed it more to women not feeling "obliged" to have sex when they're not in the mood and men being less pushy about expressing their needs. Kaitlen, a full time writer and mother of small twins, advises to get over it and get on with it. She says it a lot better, but them she writes for the New Yorker. <g>

and there is this:

Let us pray for more women like Tatelou

I can believe that. That's how we got our son. My husband had been laid off. We were stuck in a small town. Small town = tight labor market. We had unemployment and my 2/3 of a job between us.

My husband was, of course, looking for another job, but you can only fill so many hours of the day with reading the want ads of newspapers in distant big cities and mailing out resumes. The Internet as we know it hadn't developed. We couldn't afford to go clubbing. We couldn't afford to go to the movies. We couldn't afford to play golf. We couldn't afford mini-vacations.

There was just one thing we could afford to do, and we did it. Come to find out, we couldn't afford that either.

Tony, you so often crack me up, but always with an edge. P. :)

A couple of points made in a newspaper article about this -

1 Women feel much more able to say "no" these days. There is less "lying back and thinking of England" (phrase meaning they put up wth it, in case anyone is confused)

2 Perhaps women are having less sex but enjoying it more. Freed of a feeling of obligation to meet their partner's "needs", perhaps it is more mutual, and more enjoyable. Maybe quantity has been replaced with quality.

I think the key phrase here is AVERAGE. I know lots of women having no sex at all, and lots of women having lots of sex. So the average would seem fairly close to the mark.

Go to any British town or city on a Friday or Saturday night, and see if you think British women are inhibited wallflowers who hold back from sexual liaisons. Or try anywhere in the Mediterranean for the next four weeks. Ask Italian waiters, or Spanish hotel staff, who frequently give the opinion that British women are the easiest lay in Europe.

God, I feel so proud all of a sudden. I'm welling up and choking back the emotion......

And why the HELL should men and women have sex if they're not in the mood?????

What? British women have sex?
YES - and HOW!

They have this BIG advantage over Yanks - they have British men. (Not the average 5.03" American  )
What did the Brit populace say about Yanks last time? Oh yea, "Over here, overpaid, and oversexed"
This was actually a mis-quote by the American media - to boost the poor US Marines' moral. It was originally, "Over here, Over-paid, Under-endowed." Grandma says they humored them (Yanks) for the nylons they provided. It was no great hardship, as there was little fear of losing your cherry: They usually came in their pants before they could find it to get it out  :p :D

If the Brits had more in the 50's, they must have done well, because I just finished a holiday there, and from my own experience, the average Brit woman would have been like the average Brit General. (They needed 10 Yanks to fill the place of one Brit or Commonwealth soldier. ) The Brit woman would need 10 Yanks to keep her as happy as one Brit male.

Right, you Brits? (And Canadians, Aussies, Indians, etc?:D ) Maybe that's why so many of us American gals are Bi.:D :D :D

Svenskaflicka, Caitlin was obviously not saying, "just shut up an fuck him." Rather that maybe both partners could be more accomodating to the other's needs they might find they can get in the mood after all.

Another good observation about the "average." If in the past it was more the case that you could only have sex in marriage, the there would be a smaller (love the phrase) standard diviation in the amount of sex per person. Nowaday it's easier for some men and women to have lots of sex and leave others behind. The effect on the average could go either way, however.

A better study would compare whether married/long term couples are having less sex than 40 years ago.

Oh, of course this "perfect" study should actually measure number of orgasms or length of time, or some other "quality" indicator, not just numbers of visits tothe the sack.

Anyway, let's all resolve to do our part to raise the average, whatever it is.
