This one might be weird and I'm kind of having trouble to figure out its internal logic so I'd appreciate any input anyone has while I'm trying to put my rambles in order. The core premise of this story is, of course, a time travel incest series, where a young man who inherits a strange watch after his father's death discovers that it can time travel. Of course, he uses it to get his family out of the dire financial straights they are in, but then he begins to push the limits of what he can do.

Before anyone says it, I am aware the the physics and science of it all is going to be iffy at best. This is not going to be a hard science fiction by any stretch of the imagination.

The meat of the story is that the main character goes back in time to the 60s, meets his unrecognized genius grandmother and inevitably has sex with her, Essentially breeding his dad. This causes him to realize the process made him smarter, as he bred himself, excluding the man that was supposed to be his grandfather from the pool. Discovering this, he begins to go back in time, tracking his female ancestors and breeding them, with the intention of adding his own improved genes to his own genetic timeline, bettering himself in the process. Of course, he ends up with a time travelling incest harem from different eras.

My problem comes with figuring out the progress, since I feel the story loses focus after the first few parts I've planned out in my head. Not looking for someone to solve this for me, but just talking it out and some feedback might help with it.

In any case, I appreciate you for stopping by.

Complex but fascinating. I think eventually he will go back just a few years and end up competing with his younger self to fuck his first girlfriend - the one who took his virginity but then ended up cheating on him because he “wasn’t good at sex.” He’s determined to use his 15+ years of carnal experience and knowledge to keep her from cheating, only to regret it because she’s not the girl his innocent 18-year-old self thought she was. She’s a shallow, high-maintenance girl who baby-traps him instead of the guy she originally cheated with!

Going back too far in time causes two problems:

a. It makes the incest taboo slowly disappear. Once you leave the grandmother/great-grandmother, the actual closeness of relationship begins to dwindle. A grandmother shares 25% of your genes. A great-grandmother -> 12.5%. A Gx2 Grandmother -> 6.25%

b. It makes the story hard to keep up with. You want some emotion. Some love. Some sexual tension. Relationships. Here's what I would do:

1. Limit the incest to his own mother and maternal grandmother to begin with. Expand later.
2. Have reality branch off every time he time travels so there's no paradoxes to deal with.
3. Have him start off in the story with STRONG, LOVING relationships with both his mother, and his grandmother, whom he respects and loves immensely. They're both kind and beautiful and wonderful women and he imagines how both of them are just perfect. And they both had shitty husbands and he wishes that a good man had taken care of them both. Spend time developing the relationships here so that you begin with real maternal feelings.

4. Now he travels into the past. He intercepts his grandfather before he can meet his grandmother. He falls in love with, fucks, and marries his grandmother when she's 18 back in the 1940s. He raises a beautiful young daughter with her. It happens to be his own mother from the original reality. He makes a lot of money, and lives a full life fucking his grandmother and raising his own mother (who in this reality is his daughter). He lives a complete life, and on his deathbed, activates the time travel device. He goes back to when his daughter (mom) is 5, kisses her goodbye and disappears, and travels to a branch of time in the future where his mom is now 25.

5. He meets his mother at 25. She falls in love with him and marries him. They fuck and she has children but he realizes he's not one of them. He has successfully married his own mother and had a family with her but is now separate from his own timeline and doesn't need to deal with the issue of raising himself.

6. He makes the realization that this has made him INCREDIBLY intelligent, strong, etc. He decides to go back another generation. And decides that past the original courting and impregnation, he doesn't want to live entire lives with his older ancestors as he did with his mom and grandmother. He begins to take trips into the past, constantly impregnating his ancestor mothers.

7. After he's had enough, he realizes he just wants to go back to his mother-wife and raise a family and does this. On his deathbed, he realizes, he wants to go FORWARD...and meet his own granddaughter at 18.....

Or make him realize that after the first few generations of making himself his own grandfather, ggf gggf and so on he actually messed up and is now just inbreeding a lot of genetic faults. So now he has to go back in time and track down his former sires and try to get them to be his great, great grand daddies again.
Quantum leap that shit. He has to go back and unfuck his family tree. Hoping that each fuck, will be the fuck home.

Or maybe he finds out that the "missing grandfather" has possessed the original version of the wonderwatch all along and been busy pre-fucking the family womenfolk a half hour ahead of him...

Lots of potential here!

The master of this genre was Robert Heinlein. His novel "Time Enough For Love" has an episode where he travels back in time and screws his mother while his younger self was sleeping in the back seat of the car. But his greatest achievement was probably the short story "All You Zombies" which is so convoluted with time travel incest that it is difficult to describe. But if you want more ideas than you can deal with, track that story down and give it a gander. I think it is online as a public domain file.

Heinlein got really convoluted at the end. Lazarus Long had sex with almost all his characters from all his earlier stories.

Filmed a couple of years back as "Predestination".

I should find those works and give them a try. I've never read any Heinlein, but somebody just gave me his Orphans of the Sky as a gift.

Robert Silverberg also has time travel incest in Up The Line (1969). I don't remember if a pregnancy results, however.

A really weird idea would be to go back in time and have sex with one's younger self. Why would the younger version put up with that? The only thing I can think of is that the younger one had some unrequited homosexual or bisexual desires at that time. Don't look for me to write that one, however.

So a time traveler comes back into the present and confronts MC. The time traveler says you need to go back to this specific date and time and have sex with your younger self or the future is doomed. MC is skeptical but when he finds himself in the past he stops questioning. (MC ain't the sharpest tool.) So after some hijinks, he is successful in his sexual liaison and returns to the present. There he meets the future time traveler.
"I did it, I had sex with my younger self. Did I save the future?" MC asks.
"OMG you actually did it? That was a joke ya weirdo. How would you, going back in time and having sex with yourself, save the future?" TT asks mockingly.
"Darn it, why do I keep falling for that?" MC asks himself.

For obvious reasons, time travel stories are often connected to "saving the future" (The Terminator, Twelve Monkeys, et al.) However, this seems like an unnecessarily complicated take on my admittedly rather poorly-thought out premise. Because of Lit age restrictions, it would hard to do it as a study of adolescent sexual frustrations (the younger "version") . The motivations for the older "version' are even more opaque. But it you think it would work with a sci-fi twist, then give it a shot.

Nope I'm pretty much done with it. I just thought it was funny. Especially that reveal that it's not the first time it's happened.

That's okay, I think I'm done with my take on the idea too. Actually my idea was from many years ago, and I had almost forgotten about it until the content of this thread jogged my memory. Well, never say never, but I have some other things in the works first before I would even experiment with writing it.

Side-splitting!

Yes, or one of the females has been at it similarly! That's the problem with suppositional-type time travel things - "what if x?" can easily become "fine, but what if y, instead?". One can imagine Wells' time traveller arriving back home, only to find that the Morlocks had copied his device and travelled back to wreak havoc in his own era.

All of which doesn't stop it from being an attractive theme.

Narcissisms, I imagine.

You don't need an extra-large, extra-bold font - I get it. The way I imagined it, the younger self is so horny and sexually-frustrated that he (I imagine it being a male) will accept sexual contact from anybody, including his older self. Yes, a very weird idea, but no weirder than some of the other proposals I've seen in Story Ideas.
