I wondered if anyone had any experience or knowledge about breast reductions?

Scars?? Less sensitivity?? Feel different?? Can one still nurse if they have a baby after this has been done?

I have often thought of having this done.. but haven't really researched it much yet.

hey, C.C.

no, I haven't had it done but I have a friend that did and she swears that it is the best thing since sex.

says that she wishes that she would have had it done years ago.

I asked her what to tell you and she said to tell you that if you decide to have this done, make sure that the doctor is board certified in plastic or reconstructive surgery.

I agree with Native Alien. I do know of a woman who had a breast reduction (back in the 70s), and she let me see the results. The scarring was absolutely horrid! She was pleased that the reduction cured the problems she was having - really bad back aches, mainly - but she was disappointed in the scarring.

Everything else worked just fine. They removed the fatty tissue and skin, and left the milk ducts in place. Breast reductions should not interfer with breastfeeding or loss of sensitivity.

But a good plastic surgeon is an absolute must.

That has always been why I have put the idea on hold.. thought I would wait until I was finished having children. I don't have any serious problems (yet) .. so it would be mostly cosmetic at this point.

Thanks for the feedback Native and Chele :rose: .

I am also considering breast reduction. I had surgery about a year ago that caused me to lose a bunch of weight, but I didnt' lose much there at all. My doctor said that I should start documenting back problems, etc. now, so that my insurance company will pay for the surgery later. By documenting he means when you see your doctor, tell him your back has been bothering you so he puts it in your chart. You might want to do this too.

OK.. I had this surgery about 10 years ago and it was a wonderful experience. It was no more painful than a bad bruise. My breasts and nipples are still very sensitive and my scars are not particularly noticable. I had a very good plastic surgeon and would do it again in a heartbeat. There should be no problem with breastfeeding but there are no guarantees. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments mickey and Desdemona!!

Another question.. once you have had this done.. is the appearance and the feel still natural? In aging, will your breasts sag?

Call me des. Yes, the appearance and feel are still natural. The breasts will sag natuarlly with aging or with weight loss or gain. But, you know, it looks weird to be in the age group where your breasts ought to sag a bit and have them be overly perky. A bit of sag adds to the natural appearance. JMHO.

Thank you des..

That was a concern of mine.. if I had the procedure done.. I would want to ensure that my boobage would progress at natural stages with my life cycle.. I don't want to have boobs that point to the sky when I am 80.. lol

Cosmetic wont allow ins to cover.

Yeah.. I know. HMO's SUCK!! JMHO.

Luckily I work in the medical field, so that is not really a concern of mine. I know many Doctors.. and am fairly close with mine. This is just something I am considering for the future.. It wouldn't be very difficult to ensure that I had adequate health reasons to do so..

Money is not really an issue either, fortunately.

Just wanted to get feedback from people who may have had it done. I don't know anyone in r/l that has.

yep. my best friend had it done to her

her mom has to help her shower for quite a while and such (basic of course)..

depending on what size chest you got (back problems) all that.. If it's excessive.. I would recommend doing it. what size ya at, chic? *muah*

I plan on getting one as soon as I am done having/breastfeeding kids. (I'm guessing @4 0r 5 years.) I know I might be able to still breastfeed if I did it now but that's really important to me so I don't want to chance it.

Oh but these things are soooo out of here when I'm done.

I have never met any woman who has had it done (and I have asked around) who regretted it, and several who said "If only I'd done it sooner!"

Those were my thoughts exactly. I would like to have more children, and don't want to do anything presently that would interfere with breastfeeding. I know that it is possible to do it and not have any problems.. I just dont want to chance it, as it is important to me as well.

I was supposed to have a breast reduction on three occasions, and every time something happened and it didn't happen, so personally I have given up on the idea until one day when I can afford to get it done privately.

I had all the information on it, and have spoken to many people who have had it done. I assume the surgery is done in the same way over here in the UK so here goes.....

Scarring is usually minimal, but a lot depends on how your skin heals, I was advised to take arnica (homeopathic remedy) to reduce bruising, zinc (I think) which is good for your skin, also to use calendula cream to help the skin heal.

It shouldn't affect breast feeding, but I was actually advised to wait until after I had completed my family, because having a child and the usual increase to bust size can make the scars worse, even if you had it done a few years before. They really made quite a point of telling me about that.

I have seen the scars on someone who had it done, and it really was amazing, she sunbathed topless and nobody noticed. The younger you have it done however, the better your skin heals apparently.

I know of and have spoken to about five people who have had it done, and as everyone else said, they have been absolutely over the moon with the results. No-one I know has had a bad experience.

I know that I will get it done eventually, so I say go for it when the time is right!!

I hope this helps a bit.

Kudos to you CC for at least doing all the research about it before hand. It seems as though you've laid down all the ground work for it. You've consulted all the medical data, you've requested the emotional aspects here and you seem to be planning it with other aspects of your life involved too. Kudos to you for being thoughtful and being aware of the complications that could arise from this surgery.

You sound as though you have your head screwed on pretty straight and I wish you the best when you do decide to go through with it.:)

Hey, it's nice to see someone actually thinking every now & then with some foresight in mind.

Thank you again.. I over analyze everything!!

Can't shut my brain down... might not always be such a great thing.. lol

Not just HMO's, but most, if not all insurance companies are that way with cosmetic procedures.....not covered.

If you have disfigurement from an accident, surgery, birth defects, etc., Insurance usually pays, but if you are having a cosmetic procedure for purely cosmetic reasons, they don't usually cover the cost.

Yes.. I do know this. However, building a case for medical neccesity is not that difficult as I am contemplating doing this in the future and not tomorrow.. and again, money is not really the issue.

Thanks for the thought.

Hey CC

A wealth of infomation and support can be found at www.implantinfo.com. The majority of folks there are getting implants but the reduction ladies are also represented.
