brazillian....for the first time

this may be off topic but what are the negatives and benfits of a brazilan wax? I've been thinking about getting it done so I can wear string bikinis :)

benefits~~~smooth smooth smooth!!, lasts longer than shaving, sexxxy:D , grows back finer, like peach fuzz, just feels plain old amazing!

negatives~~~can't think of really any, besides the cost. it depends on where you go, i have heard it costing up to $50.....mine was only $30. well worth it as i only have to get it done once a month! i guess the other could be the pain, but i found it to be so short lived that it was worth the ouch factor!

honestly, i don't think i'd have the nerve to yank that strip off myself!! lol! goes back to a bad waxing experiment that my friend tried on my armpit! bruising, practically internal bleeding! lol!!
That's pretty common when a waxer is inexperienced, unfortunately. It's happened to me several times, but I've finally found a good waxer. I go every two months or so for the whole thing.

what do you wear during the proceedure? are you naked down there? the thought of someone non medical looking at my vagina is well, a little odd to me, that why ive always done my bikini line at home with wax.
I usually wear my own thong, but sometimes they will give you a paper thong to wear. They will often ask you to help by holding it out of the way; I've also had a waxer ask me to help by pulling my skin more taut. Believe it or not, it isn't that strange to have a waxer looking at you. They're quite used to it! I put doctors and waxers in the same category in terms of comfort level for seeing me naked. (And yes, despite my magazine pictures, there are people I don't want to see me naked!

but the thing is, he wants it now hairless, i hate the look of the nudeness, it being rather child like to my eye, but if it pleases him then thats ok. so the brazillian is a answer, but im not sure id cope with exposing myself to a what? beauty therapist/hairdresser.
Many people expect it to look childlike, but it never has on me. I think it just looks neater and more attractive. (Sometimes I have a landing strip, sometimes not.)

How many tweezed hairs were removed, are we talking a few, or lots?
That depends on the skill of the waxer, usually. I've had one that had to tweeze a lot (though that was underarms) and it is indeed uncomfortable. And I've had some that didn't tweeze at all. (Although even if they do tweze, you may end up having to do a few spot tweezings or shaving at home. They will usually miss a few.)

How long did the whole thing take?
I have fairly thick hair, and lots of it. I can get my whole body waxed - full legs, underarms, bikini, Brazilian - in about 90 minutes. I think the legs probably take the longest. A quickie Brazilian can probably be done in 15 minutes, but a good one should take a little longer.

hehe....don't be scared about the hives....it only lasts a day and it's not serious! just don't be showing it off or go tanning the first day! i have a feeling that the first time is the worst for hives as the skin and hair follicles are in shock! i'm going back in a couple of weeks for my second waxing and will know for sure! take a benedryl before you go and that will avoid any hives (that's what i was told by my esthetician).
Yup, that's why you get the hives...the shock to the follicles. I still get them every time.

Actually, I didn't realize other people got hives from waxing! I have a condition called chronic urticaria (you can read about my experiences with it here) and urticaria is another word for hives. I always assumed the hives were related to that.

thanks etoile! :D

yikes, i read the bit about the urticaria......doesn't sound like fun at all. i do get hives often, on my legs, my lower back, and my face, but i just blame it on the environment. allergies and such. maybe i should look into it further......it is a pain in the ass (bad pun, sorry).....i hate the itch!

thanks again....nice to see you around!

Doesn't it annoy you to have to wait about 2 weeks for the hair to grow out enough to wax? That's the one thing that's holding me back, I don't want to have to be stuck being hairy for 2 weeks every month.

I wouldn't worry. Keep in mind that we're talking about growth from nothing, not growth from skin level where it was cut off. After two weeks there's still not a lot of hair there. Hell, I last went more than a month ago and I'm still looking pretty good.

Also, after you've been getting waxed for a while, the hair will grow back sparser and finer. I've been doing it for about four years now and I don't even have much hair left to wax when I go in.

i agree....i'm on week three and the regrowth is much better than when i used to shave. the hair is sparser as well as softer......on the other hand, i can't wait for next week!!!! miss that silky smooth feel :D
