It may have been, at one time, but it is not, now. It is, also, the first and oldest public beach, in America, and boasts one of the largest sand sculpture competitions, in the world. IMO, it has been a well-kept secret, just 20 minutes outside the city. There have been lots of condos built, and the secret is getting out, as the rents in Boston have gotten out of hand.

Certainly NOT as a vacation location, but if you want to spend lunch at the beach, or even a nice summer afternoon, it is a pleasant surprise. It's free, there is parking, and the restrooms are clean. The approach path, for Logan, is such that the planes are more a part of the scenery than a nuisance. You can barely hear them, but they're nice to look at.
