Inspired by Peachy Keen's thread, here is the place to post those books you read, and then regretted it. Hell, you may still regret it to this day.

At the top of my list (which I know is going to make some people mad):

Grapes of Wrath

It was long, boring, and I had no sympathy whatsoever for the characters. I hate those stupid hillbillies!

seems fair enough

my contribution is moby dick...where in the hell was the fucking whale...to many pages dedicated to sails riggings and lines...hell if i wanted to learn how to navigate a boat i would join the coast gaurd:D

seems strange to me..........

how can one regret reading a book?.........maybe the lost time?...........I don't finish those that don't do something for me........except maybe as a school assighnment............but regret?..........I don't see starting bad (my assesment) books as anything to regret........I think I learn from that even.............

How could you not have sympathy for the Okies. You sound quite republican.

:)

When I was young I read a few Hardy Boys books. What a load of crap those spoiled fucks were. Daddy shows up for the end, happening to be involved with the case, and saves the day.

How the hell did dozens of these crapfests make it past editors?

I just couldn't get into the LOTR books.

I liked the movies better.

I read the entire trilogy. I didn't think they were that bad, although after a year without English-language reading material, I think I could have read anything.

Continuing my list-

That one short Poe novel about a guy who's boat gets lost in a storm and he sails around aimlessly and boringly for a hundred pages. I had to read that in TWO different classes.

Democrat here. About the Okies: anyone that stupid deserves to have all that crap happen to them.

Pyper. You break my heart. Start a thread inspired by one of mine, and immediately trash my favorite book. Oh the pain, the pain of it all!

Danielle Steele's "Kaleidoscope"

ANYTHING by Danielle Steele is on that list for me. I like romance, but hers are just silly.

Heh, oops!

Would it help to say I adore "Of Mice and Men"? :D

Anything by Danielle Steele, Fern Michaels, V.C. Andrews, or whatever the fuck their names are. Terrible waste of time and money.

usually if i don't like a book i don't finish it. the past few were a collection of stephen kind shorts i just couldn't get into and some book by thomas mann.

AND stupid! But this isn't the thread for debating the Grapes of Wrath, it's for listing awful books.

So get to listing!

Gerald's Game by Stephen King.

I'll never be able to be tied up again. It was creepy and terrible.

Beowulf (sp?)

They pushed this one on us in high school. I almost got an "F" because I insisted that it was a ridiculous piece of shit book that needed to be forgotten. If the goddamned monster kept coming into the castle and killing people, why didn't someone have the presence of mind to post a guard or a sentry? Maybe I'm too literal of a thinker.

As for books that I read voluntarily, Stephen King's Insomnia comes immediately to mind. It just sucked. That fact that it was a Dark Tower tie-in didn't even save it.

no no no. Ignorant and uneducated, yes. I hardly think, though, that the fact that they lost absolutely EVERYTHING THEY HAD EVER HAD AND WORKED VERY HARD FOR because of years of drought was somehow OK because they didn't have college degrees.

It is an awfully sad story, but it is not an awful book. It is a well written, vividly told story.

grrrrrr

I don't read too many awful books. I have a 6th sense about them. Probably why I don't read many "Lit" stories.

I thought Bridges Of Madison County sucked. A jounalist friend asked me to read it. My faith in newswriters declined after.
