At this point, terrorism has not been ruled out in the mall bombing.

I expected something from Coolville at the very least...

I've seen no explanations yet, just that they have a 20 year-old suspect in custody, some deaths, including a child. The bomb was set off next to a group of children. The article indicated Finland did not have a real history of terrorism. One big industrial explosion and a gangland hit (imagine that! Thugs in Finland!).

Finland does have a history of violence by organised crime. For many years there has been serious competition amoungst these rival factions for control of the Reindeer herds.

These factions have been known to use any means necessary, including but not limited to tying the opposing factions shoelaces together while they slept.

This has been concealed from the press by the Finnish National Board of Tourism who is worried about a drop off in tourist travel during the winter months.

Finland doesn't make the news that much. Only when one of their cross-country skiiers is nailed for doping.

The 20 year old Finn who was killed in the suicide bombing is assumed to have been acting alone. Angry young man? More than likely.

In 1999, a man blew himself up in a courtroom in Frederickshamn, injuring 7.

Last May, police found a car bomb in Järvenpääs and dismantled it.

Last month, the Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki boycotted the New York Film Festival, refusing to come and present his new film, The Man Without a Past.

The New York Film Festival suffered the loss of yet another top-flight international director from its 40th anniversary edition as world politics intruded on the prestigious event.

After learning that Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami had been prevented from attending the festival last week because of US visa problems, Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki decided against flying in to New York from Helsinki in a show of cinematic solidarity.

"Under the circumstances I, too, am forced to cancel my participation -- for if the present government of the United States of America does not want an Iranian, they will hardly have any use for a Finn, either. We do not even have the oil," said Kaurismaki yesterday.

Demonstrating his trademark deadpan wit, Kaurismaki also added a personal message to the US defense minister Donald Rumsfeld as the war rhetoric over Iraq intensified on the world stage: "I would like to invite the present US Secretary of Defense to a visit to Finland. We could take a walk in the woods and pick mushrooms. That might calm him down.”

There’s a man who needs to be introduced to the Miracle of Networking :D !

We don’t get much news out of Connecticut either…

Can you imagine how brutal these terrorists are ?

Those innocent victims stood up early and felt down breaking some bones. It came into history as the massacre of "Wounded Knee"...

LOL

You are not really a German, are you, Rex?

um... yes.... why?

I think he is taking the piss out of the German's lack of humour. Humor ist verboten!

Sure, a cliche, but cliches are fun!

I remember once I was surfing through the channels and Monty Python was on a German channel. Now, as you know, the German's dub EVERYTHING and anything.

But this Monty Python episode was subtitled. The subtitles were even funnier than the show. What an impossible task! Subtitling (or dubbing) Python humour into German!

And don't even get me started on Belgium...

:)
