Boil that water

The park I am living in is currently under a Boil Water Alert. This is to protect people from possible contaminants in the water. This isn't a big deal to me but it is a bit of a pain in the butt.

Here is the letter posted on everyones doors.

March 16, 2009

To: All Residents

A water line leak was discovered on March 13, 2009 and repairs were made on March 14, 2009.

Therefore as a precaution we advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making Ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficent. As an alternative bottled water may be used.

This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.

If you have any questions you may contact the community manager at ________

Hmmmm, do I have any questions? You bet I do. Why so long to post the notice? (Leak detected on the 13th, repairs made on the 14th but the notice wasn't posted until the 16th.)

Anyone ever dealt with something like this?

Periodically (every few months) I get a notice from the city regarding the contaminants in the water being above acceptable levels but nothing states that the water should be boiled. When I get the notice it is about the previous month or further back. It never really goes into detail about which contaminants are above acceptable levels, what steps they are taking to correct it and such. I so far (knock on wood) haven't gotten sick from drinking it or showering in it. I think they are sending everything by the lawyers first.

I used to live in a senior community mobile home park (I was taking care of my Grandmother-those folks were dang picky) and whenever there was a problem, the park management would take a couple of days before posting anything that could come back on them. For them, I am fairly certain they had to contact the owners of the park first and get permission to post something like that.
