Why?

What is the difference between this poll and a "public poll"?

With a public poll, you can see who voted what. This one is private, so only WD can see the results by individual. (I think - maybe nobody can see it at all? I forget.)

If it were public, you would know whom to thank personally.

Thank you.

I am sure if the individual responsible wants me to know, I'll get a PM about it.

I just wanted that person to know I'd noticed, and that I appreciate the gesture.

I have the feeling you wanted to make sure we noticed, too.

Which actually, I already had, which is why I already knew the poll was private. I already tried to see who clicked that button.

Curious question... if you were a forum "monitor", what would you do?

I would do my best to keep the focus of discussions on issues.

I would never let personal attacks go unchallenged.

I would be aiming for a forum where people can learn, where people feel safe asking questions or volunteering points of view on any topic without feeling that they are risking their reputation for speaking up.

I would certainly want to encourage diversity with respect to the kind of people offering advice. Different lifestyles, different motives, different beliefs ... I think most (all) online sites overlook the need for diverse points of views, and so get locked into a group-think which serves some well but ignores others entirely.

Group-think leads to intolerance of any other point of view, and that isn't healthy for the long-term success of a site.

Interesting... IMO that's exactly what happens here, already.

Annoying double post hiccup thingie.

I just realized I'm overlooking a splendid opportunity to get myself elected monitor, so let's up the ante ...

How about an iPod for every user, and a coupon from Starbucks, and a free tub of ice cream from Baskins&Robbins (any flavour)?

Oh, well he was close. It was a boy thing - "gown" v. "dress" and all.

I've apparently watched way too much Project Runway as my first thought was "That's a dress, not a gown."

I must go lift heavy things now.

The danger of living with a woman (or in your case, two). Knowledge you never wanted sneaks in by osmosis.

True that. Fortunately, I am pretty forgiving when it comes to TV because I don't pay more than half a mind to it in general. I'm usually on my laptop and it happens to be on. As a result, I don't mind unless it is truly annoying.

And, likewise fortunately, both of them like the occasional guy-friendly show. They're both bigger Dr Who fans than I am, for example. And we all like Food Network.

Everyone needs love and attention - this thread is for you BLoved!

at least I got to see those gown photos - HAWTT!

Well I voted "other" and I don't mind saying it loud. lol

In my case the "other" = Bloved should be respected.

As a person, as a poster, as a part of this comunity. Whether you like it or not, he can post his opinions, comments and stories on here as anyone else. You don't have to like it, but he can still say them and post them. If we all agreed with each other and liked the same things, it would be a bit boring I think.

Just my two cents. :p

Yeah.

At no point does any of that equate to respecting him. I respect his right to free speech as I'd expect people to respect mine, but I don't respect him or his opinions because his opinions are insane and he's incredibly unlikable.

I agree. Absolutely.

But when someone lies someone else has a right to refute it.

when someone slings insulting language people have a right to react as they choose.

This is how free speech works. You can say whatever you want, but you invite consequences when you treat people poorly.

insulting people's intimate relationships and then going "waaaah she hit me back" means people will laugh at you and have every right.

Insult people of any kind of forum is stupid IMO. I dunno if he did or not as I didn't read his posts but few which I didn't find insulting at all. So I don't know. Dunno what was happening on here. I just see silly thread with his name and some silly voting going on as if he was the bigest no one on here.

I do not support this kind of acting. No matter what he said or posted. It's silly, childlish and I am sure it could hurt someones feelings too. I know it would hurt mine.

Anyways, if you spit on someone you must expect they will spit right back at you. Thats how it works with people, especialy on forum sites. Me personaly, I don't like this kind of threads, but you guys have fun.

IF you call this fun.
