So does anyone have any salient advice on a good location for an erotic writer's blog? I could use wordpress etc easily enough but just wondered if I was missing a trick!?

Have found myself between jobs and am going to spend some time writing properly (I hope) and blogging as I do so....

Blogging

You could try Tumblr - it is real easy to get started (mark your blog as NSFW - not safe for work) or Blogspot and be sure to mark your blog as an adult one. However, a lot of bloggers on Blogspot have had their adult content blogs deleted over the years with no clear explanation why. Mine was shut down and the worst of it I saw later that someone else was using it and there was no content on the blog so I am not sure exactly what they were doing with it. I don't know how that happened but that can be very damaging to your reputation.

Hey Trixie
I use Blogger, cuz I am a ditz with these things and I find Blogger easy. There are links to a couple of my blogs in my signature.

Welcome to the board! and hope you have fun. (I sure do, LOL.) You can get good answers to even very silly writerly questions here, you can have a really nice time in some of the threads (word game threads, ones on e.g. 'Seldom Used Words' and there are some chatty party threads). There are sometimes trolls but they are not the same as trolls on other boards. So if someone is a bit odd and then they start biting your feet, you should not take it personally. Just go: aha! it's a troll attack! and throw buns at them. They like a nice bun fight.

Here is one to put in your back pocket and keep just in case you come across a troll.

Are there any blogs that are free and will be kept for many years?

The rule of thumb with this sort of stuff is "if you're not the customer, you're the commodity". On a free blogging site, the owner has some other plan to make money - whether that's selling ads, or selling info about its users, or something else.

If their monetisation scheme is advertising, this puts you at risk of having 'adult' content pulled if they decide they want to appeal to family-friendly advertisers. LiveJournal ran into a whole heap of drama this way and lost a LOT of users because they got trigger-happy about suspending people's journals. Then they started running a whole heap of sponsored bullshit, argh.

(Incidentally, they started out promising "no ads, ever". Got myself a paid account just before they reneged on that promise and I've regretted it ever since.)

So with any free hosting, you're taking your chances. That said, Dreamwidth are pretty decent, and seem to be run by nice people who value freedom of expression. You can get a free account there, and if you like it I'd strongly recommend a paid account to support them in keeping the service blogger-oriented rather than sponsor-oriented.

That's a commercial Belgian bun so I could find a recipe but it won't taste the same without all the E numbers. I can buy you one from our indoor market. I usually buy chelsea buns cuz they are 3 for £1.30 and sometimes I get an iced doughnut with multicoloured sprinkles for Piglet. I will pick you up a Belgian bun next time I go by.

Bramblethorn, I am keen to hear more about the way blogging sites exploit us. I have my four blogs on blogger and never had any trouble, but like Zeb I don't have six trillion followers. My review blog has started to get good hit numbers and I want to do some more work on that and get it up and running so I would be gutted if it was suddenly deleted.
