Block a Forum

By all means call me on this when I actually do what you assert I'll do. It's quite true you've only been on the site for a couple of days and you already are working on redecorating it to your liking on several threads.
Making myself at home :)

Is there any possibility of creating the function of blocking a whole forum? There are certain forums (plural is being used to disguise) that when I browse New Posts I would rather not see any posts from that forum.
@Cindy027
What is this forum about?

Welcome to the site. And I'll take this opportunity to affirm that I think both points you mentioned--that users here should take adult responsibility for how they use the site and what they expect the site to do for them and that they probably should leave if they can't live with this--are both legitimate and constructive observations about the site and users to make.

As for myself, I use only a few of the forums here. I'm sure some of the others would curl my toes to read into. So, I don't. And I managed to use the site without getting the vapors or needing a babysitter.

My point is fairly generic, in that your answer to anyone asking for what they consider to be an improvement to the site seems to be - live with it or leave - or take responsibility for your own experience. Both of which are, I suppose genuine and legitimate observations, if a little intolerant.
Surely people have a right to express where they would like to see improvements to the site?
You yourself have expressed that you would like to see some improvements, could the same arguments not be levvied against you?
I would, and could understand you POV, if, as I have seen on my trawling of the boards, the OP was railing against some hard and fast site rule - the first that springs to mind is the U18 rule - I read a lot about that. But all she was asking is - is a facility I would LIKE available, and if not how can we request it.

and thanks for the welcome BTW :p

I haven't said the OP couldn't express her wishes for babysitting. I've said it's an adult site and shouldn't have to provide such babysitting--in my opinion--which I have as much right to express as anyone else, and probably more grounds for having legitimate opinions after decades of using the site up against someone who showed up last week.

And any adjustments to the site for one user's expressed wishes is a denial of adjustments to the site for another one's expressed uses, so I believe it's a legitimate discussion topic for opposing opinions.

The site says off the top it's for adults, so I don't think is intolerant to hold that this includes being able to take personal responsibility for what you read here. That's an element of being an adult.

It isn't baby sitting. It's just another tool, like being able to leave comments on stories, or to remove those comments you don't like. I mean, you could just scroll past them.

There are a couple of issues with your answer - the first is that Jaffoo already put up a link to a post - which I presume led to a similar request from another user so its not just for one user. Another issue is that the OP isnt tryint to avoid adult content - just specific forums that might not suit her tastes, for whatever reason. Yes she can easily ignore them but surely the purpose of computers is to automate stuff that we dont want to have to do ourselves.
My opinion for the tiny bit I think it's worth to you, is that a more appropriate response would be - the mechanism for requesting changes to the site is..... whatever it is, i dont know pm Laurel or Manu or whatever. They will I presume collate all the requests for all the different changes - and decide what they want to do. the result of that would be 1 OP goes away happy, 2 no fighting, 3 you are secure knowing that the liklihood is that even if OP PM's site admin nothing is going to change, again from reading yours and other posts here - things dont change easily.

Nor do I decry your right to an opposing opinion - but you didnt put one forward -
You didnt say - ok but i have this idea for a change which I would prefer to see over yours. You just ridiculed her idea.

I don't see the relevance of how many out of the millions who use this site have suggested this. It also doesn't matter what the purpose is for requesting custom-fitting babysitting services. They are competing for resources available for anything else on the one level, and they represent failure to be adult and to be willing to accept personal responsibility for simple procedures/issues on another (my primary point).

Saying I haven't put my own views of possible changes won't fly as in an earlier post you note I've done exactly that on other threads (with the proviso of experience here that nothing much is really going to change. Most of the changes the Web site institutes are things no one asked for at all--while requesting other changes, and they only happen during purple moon phases).

To some extent, I realize this is a generational thing. I was raised before the helicopter mother era when folks were conditioned to expect someone else to take responsibility for everything for them.

God, it's simple. If you don't want to read in a forum here, just don't. Mind your own business and let others take their enjoyment as the Web site allows as long as they don't try to push it down your throat. If you can't do that without getting the vapors, you're not adult enough to be here.

And i think that's enough of just trying to suggest taking responsibility for your own use of the Web site.

I suppose it depends on what you consider she was looking for.

I read it as a "Can I have a tool to make my life easier"
You seem to have read it as "WAAAAHHH!!! I DONT WANT TO SEE THIS..."

The fact that you still are calling it a babysitting service tells me that you are not seeing this in the way I think it was meant - ie as i say just a feature to make life easier.

I totally get your railing against what we in the UK call 'nannying' where we expect everyone else to take responsibility to make sure we get whatever we want, but as I said the purpose of technology is to make routine tasks easier, and having to scroll past a lot of forums that could quite easily be filtered, is just easier.

The bottom line is that we all have the right to ask, for whatever changes we want on this site.
The site has the right to completely ignore those requests (and from what i can tell, avails itself of that right copiously)
If you dont agree with it - then why even get involved. You know the likelihood it's going to get ignored in any case. why bother getting into a row with someone over something you dont care about.

The only thing I can think of is that you think that it is in competition with a change you want to see made. and why should your change be any more relevent than hers?

I will not read a story in NC/Reluctance (reminds me too much of rape), but I just ignore that category, as when I search for new stories, I search by category, not by the new story tab.

The point was that the OP was asking if it could be done - and if not how she could request the feature. Yes we know you can just scroll past them, but isnt technology about making life easier for people?

I think the opposition to this comes from one corner only and he rants on about it being a porn site and that I should grow up etc and deal with it or leave. I have actually written here if he would care to look that I am not concerned about the ‘porn’.

Let me get this out the way as well, to me Literotica is a sex site with erotic stories. Unfortunately people post a lot of porn into the threads (pictures), which I see the mods are beginning to police. So no I don’t think of it as a porn site it just has porn on it. Is there a distinction between the two, I think so.

So back to the issue, Keith says it’s a porn site blah blah blah, fair enough if he wants to term it as that it’s his right. I must then ask why there is a politics forum in a porn site. Yes everyone I would like to never see any threads in the politics forum, this is the forum I would love to block. I think we can all agree that politics is not porn (jokes about this will not be appreciated) therefore I should have requested for the politics forum to be removed from Lit but I didn’t, all I wanted was to be able to block it for my sanity.

What I really fail to understand is why he posted in here in the first place, btw I am not the only person here who would like this functionality. If I want to cover my eyes and go la la la I should be allowed to without being labeled by an old fart.

I use the ‘New posts’ function and all new posts come into that feed. Someone here suggested I use ‘Watched posts’ but that would then just be a finite selection and I would miss out on all the new stuff.

Maybe the answer is for the politics forum to be moderated but then it may become a exercise in subjectivity. So the easiest would be just for me and others who share my view just to block it.

From what I have seen if they moderated the politics forum eveyone there would be banned - because all they do is hurl insults at each other. There is little actual debate - the posts tend to go like

OP >>> I have this opinion.

Post 1 >>>YOU'RE A COMPLETE TOOL, TRUMP SUPPORTER REPUBLICAN ASS... yada yada!!!

IMHO it doesnt matter what this site is - porn site, politics site, erotic story site, you have a legitimate request for a new feature. Just because a certain person doesn't agree that its worthwhile, and worse he is scared that it will take resources away from dealing with HIS requests, he tries to belittle it, and make fun of you in the process, by calling it Babysitting.

And while i'm here - can I please add my weight to the request for the ability to block a forum - I'm sick to death of seeing how much we white girls like black cock - and even white guys.
I appreciate its a fantasy for some people, and good luck to them. Its not my fantasy and even seeing the headline spoils my fantasies. Being able to remove it from my experience would greatly improve my enjoyment of the site.
I'm not asking for it to be removed from the site - just the ability to remove it from my view of the site - in the same way as I can block people.

Those topics are posted across multiple forum sections, so blocking one would not accomplish much.

As far as removing Poli? Not happening. As one of the oldest remaining forums on the web, this site has a LOT of history as to why and how changes were made. I believe Poli was one the last added and it was in response to issues in the General Board.

As far as I'm concerned, both of those need Mods, but Admin thinks otherwise.
