Blackmail idea help?

I've started a story that deals with blackmail, and of course, it's that a guy saw a girl cheating on her man, so he makes her do sexual things for him so he won't tattle on her.

One thing that bugged me for a while is that I couldn't come up with a believable reason other than cheating as the plot driver. Besides something relating to sex (or working as a stripper), what are good reasons for blackmail have you seen used, or would like to see used?

I thought of an idea earlier today, but some ideas I just force down instead of writing down.

-Your chracter knows the couple but not that well. He's on a cruise after winning a contest or something. He see's her with her husband but there's something different about him. She's sleeping with her husbands twin.

-Another totally different idea is that the guy is a college student. After going on exchange at the college where his youngest sexiest Prof got her PHD he finds out she never went there. His Professor has a fake PHD. He blackmails her into anal SEX.

It can be work related. She's the book keeper and he finds out she's taken some money from the company. Not flashy, but sometimes the simple ideas work the best.

She is married and pregnant. At the end of the first trimester she goes to the OBGYN for a scheduled examination. DNA tests show the embryo's father is not her husband. The doctor can tell because he has DNA for both spouses.

The doctor calls her in for a follow up consultation and tells her the news. His price for silence is sex.

Again, building off my earlier post on RATing into someone's computer...
Girl is entrusted by friends to buy tix to hot hot concert, gets online the second they go on sale, gets all the way to checkout and the RATer jumps in and demands a flash in return for allowing her to press confirm. Clock is ticking, she gives in.
Then she has a big paper that needs to be emailed to prof for class, RATer encrypts it, demands something in return.
Then RATer threatens to post her video on her facebook unless she does another little task, etc.
And then this stuff keeps happening.

First, I wouldn't really put too much energy into figuring it out because ultimately it doesn't matter much. Think of it this way how much of Lord of the Rings would have changed if instead of inheriting the Ring if Frodo had simply picked it up on the way home (like Bilbo did) or if Gandalf had given it to him because he knew Hobbits could resist it's lure better than most? Pretty much nothing.

I know people prefer to understand the why and I'm right there with them but if you've got a solid story idea and the only thing holding you back is that silly detail that's kicking your ass. Lots of stories never really explain step one because they can't.

I think the reason for the blackmail is VERY important. If the wife did something nefarious, that changes how we feel about her. Maybe we will feel that she deserves the blackmail treatment. Then we are rooting for the blackmailer.

On the other hand, if she is innocent of any wrongdoing, we are more likely to feel sorry for her, which makes it a totally different story. Innocent reasons for blackmail could be things she has no control over, like her bother is a crook or someone snapped photos of her in a locker room. Or maybe she was raped when she was younger and doesn't want her husband to know. Or even something like she is working a second job to save up money to buy her husband a new car, and she wants it to be a surprise, but the blackmailer threatens to out her.

A few Reasons (some of these aren't blackmail per se, but coercion nonetheless):

She can't pay the rent, so the landlord cuts her a deal.

Someone gets evidence that she moonlights as a prostitute or stripper and will out her to her work or significant other if she doesn't comply.

Someone found the naughty pics or vids she made, and will send them to her family.

Bible belt, small town girl had a girlfriend when she was away in college. Comply, or the whole town will know, and see the pics.

You have the evidence that her ex didn't just "disappear", but that she killed him.

You have her diary. You know, the one where she talks about the affair she had with her dad. It would destroy her whole family.

You could destroy her teaching career, by exposing her as a prolific and nasty non-con writer on literotica. Really, who'd want someone like that working with their kids?

You caught her fucking the preacher.

You're the lawyer that holds the purse-strings on her trust account. Little rich girl doesn't get a dime until you sign off on it. Well, not until she turns thirty.

She was the one that accidentally blew up the Chem lab with her sloppy lab procedure. You can get her kicked out of college if she doesn't do what you say.

You can prove that she's the one that stole the money from Big Louie. He'll kill her if he finds out.

That nun's literally a heretic. You can have her excommunicated if she doesn't do exactly as you say.

She can't pay the mechanic. So he decides to work her rearend until she's "paid up". Maybe he even lets some of the other mechanics in the shop have a go at checking her oil, or maybe he lets some of the vendors or customers have a go too.

She'll loose her good job and security clearance with the government if they find out about her mental health background, and you've go the records.

If she gets written up one more time, they're gonna bust her right out of the army, and you wandered past and found her asleep on watch.

If the foreman finds out who shorted out the generator, they're soo gonna be fired. You and your buddies saw the whole thing.

Rent a cop found a shoplifter...

One more ticket, and she looses her license... and there's a cop pulling her over now.

Yeah, it's just a shitty fast food job, but you did catch her pissing in the pickle jar. She can go to jail for that shit. And the security camera caught it too.

Her green card's expired. You can get her deported.

So, you finally figured out who on the ward has been stealing narcotics from the lock box.

It wasn't suicide. It was murder. She just made it look like suicide. And you have the proof.

Well, then.

Nothing is as good for blackmail as something the perp has not on the woman being blackmailed, but on her son or daughter or husband. She'll protect them at any and all costs. This has the added advantage that one or two of the others can be brought in later.

Blackmail the mom based on her daughter's secret, and blackmail the daughter based on the mom's secret.

My stupid question: why is it always a woman being blackmailed and not a guy? The series Nip/tuck had an episode where a pissed off older female client was going to she for malpractice unless the hunky doctor gave her a couple free face lifts AND sex.

Other examples: nerdy girl will do the jocks term paper he needs to pass only if he does it good to her.

Woman after bad breakup has dirt (or cherished item), and requires the ex to be her sub.

A great many of the blackmail scenarios could work with reverse gender roles.

Why always a woman? Likely because it seems less likely for a "proper" woman to perform like a sex fiend than a man. How about a rising male political star is blackmailed to having sex with a barely legal girl? Oh, that is old news. A rising female political star is blackmailed to having sex with a barely legal guy? Wait, what?

Or being forced to screw somebody because he sends out cockshots? cry me a river. Or an aging sports star who is forced to...you get the picture.

Hillary as SecState being forced to fuck her bodyguard? That would be wild. Kerry? I would be surprised he needed to be encouraged.

It's clearly doable, but it just takes a lot of work to make it interesting and plausible.

Actually if you look at secret services and the way they have used blackmail to get state secrets, the target has been almost always a guy - the agents have been both sexes.

Perhaps not so much today, but in the past pictures and evidence of a same sex encounter were gold for a blackmailer. In fact, when doing background checks a tendency toward same sex was a disqualification, simply because of the ease that such a person could be blackmailed.

But there's nothing sexier than the hot babe secret agent, using all her skills to get the goods.

Setting is key.

Interesting thread and lots of great scenarios and points.
Knowing why the victim is being blackmailed is key if you want an emotional investment and not just get your rocks off after two paragraphs. But then, I'm a fan of the slow buildup.

Pretty funny if that actually happened...

Of course, probably every thing possible has happened a couple times.

Of those, the question here would be which scenarios work the best for erotic stories. Maybe the KGB present the faithful wife of the eminent politician with the pictures of him getting happily buttfucked?

And they whisper to her what happens if she doesn't go along. Then they use her to fuck-trap a half dozen in his political party. People start to talk, about her playing around. No one can prove anything...and his party does better and better in the polls...

So far this is just an ordinary plot and storyline. Then one day the daughter puts a couple of pieces together and figures it out. And she's furious. So here, now is a 20 year old sophomore college girl who's decided to bring down an entire arm of the KGB...

The issue with blackmailing a man for state secrets is one thing. Presumably, a blackmail story on this site would be for sex, which is quite a different thing. Imagine the KGB going to the diplomat: we have pictures of you banging this model. If you don't continue to bang our models, the pictures get sent to your boss.

Just doesn't seem to have the same impact.
