Bitching about Boston

One of our new Boston weatherpersons are in for some surprises.
If they feel that today's weather was like summer in Southern Florida,
I cannot possibly guess what he will say, when he tries to inhale the atomized hot soup of August.

Watch out, Tornado Alley East!

The National Weather Service confirms a microburst touched down in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, on Tuesday.

The microburst, which produced straight line wind damage, occurred around 4:55 p.m., with an estimated path length of .45 miles.

No injuries were reported, but minor damage was reported on Hillside Road, just to the north of the Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation. Some trees and branches fell, with several large trees taking down powerlines.

Someone is missing a gazebo...

Seeing black dots in the middle of a sea of dark, violent red is a very direct hint.

( Seek shelter, now!)

We still got snow

http://wamc.org/post/bostonians-bet-when-12-foot-ice-mound-will-finally-melt#stream/0

"Yes, we know, the highs are in the 80s now in Boston, but yet, the city is home to a mound of snow and ice that's been able to survive because it's mixed up with a bunch trash. It's 12 feet high, and people are now taking bets on when it will finally melt. Michael Dennehy is the commissioner of public works in Boston and he's with us from his office."

MCEVERS: And you have actually picked your way around this snow mound. I mean, what's in there? What've you seen?

DENNEHY: Oh, so there's a lot of assets the Boston Water and Sewer Commission will be looking for us to return to them. There were some storm drain covers, catch basin covers, more than a handful of fire hydrants and other assets that other city departments are probably looking for.

MCEVERS: (Laughter) what? We'd also read that it was, you know, a lot of garbage. Is that true too?

DENNEHY: Yes. So if you can imagine downtown Boston and the surrounding neighborhoods of Boston, during these four snowstorms, people were putting trash out as if it were going to be collected in a timely fashion. And it was collected, but unfortunately, it was collected by a front-end loader that was removing snow, so...

(This, is where they discuss the fact that the remaining snow hill does not have a pleasant odor.)

MCEVERS: All right. And there's a contest going on, right, on Twitter? Can you tell us about that and tell us about the hashtag?

DENNEHY: Yeah, so Mayor Walsh has issued a snowmelt challenge, hashtag #bosmeltnow. And he's asking people to venture a guess as to when this pile - five-and-a-half-month old pile now - will finally see its final day.

Attractive people might be reading weather predictions off of the monitor, but it does not make them meteorologists.

It is a rare occasions, when the meteorologist steps up and says something to the viewing public.

Sun showers, today. Just like during summer vacations, when I was a child.

"650 lightning strikes in the vicinity during a 15-minute period"

Massachusetts is not alone.

Another part of the new normal ?

The Last Boston 'Snow Farm' Finally Melts
JULY 14, 2015

may remember that the city got a lot of it this winter, and it dumped much of the cleared snow in unused parking lots — which it called "snow farms." The last one to melt, in Boston's Seaport District, was once 75 feet high.

As member station WBUR reports, "Mayor Marty Walsh tweeted Tuesday that a giant snow pile in a Seaport District parking lot, where the city dumped some of the winter's record-breaking snowfall after moving it off city streets, had finally melted." Walsh had challenged people to guess when the giant snow pile would disappear.

Thank you to all who participated in the #BOSMeltNow Challenge. It was a fun way to say farewell to #Boston’s last bit of snow. (3/3)

The Associated Press notes that the last major blizzard was five months ago.

Tornado Alley East is on the alert

Thunderstorms, rain, and some floods ?
Or a surprise visiting tornado system from the Mid- West ?

Norfolk county might be clobbered.

Western MA is the target, but Boston has the opinion
that it might move up and over to the middle of the state.

Massachusetts is a noobie. The Mid- West is experienced.
We have had wild, wet, hurricane oral sex.
The tornado is persistent in trying to push the tip
into Massachusetts.

The tornado warning is centered at the usual crossroads of states.

Good gracious, neci!
There is a set of testicles in the Midwest,
and a penis that stretches all the way
to the East Coast. The storms are moving
from the balls up to the knob, as if they were sperm globs.
Maine is due to be spermed.

That is the most gigantic cock on a map, that I have ever seen.

North of the Mass Pike

Who is the target on today's dart board ?
The map has black spots among the red and orange spaces.

Will very recent history repeat itself ?
We have learned that an EF 0 is nothing to scoff at.
It whomps. An EF 1 is dangerous to the target.
100- 150 winds from a hurricane VS 100- 150 winds from tornado.

Two o' clock is the pre- spectacle prep time.
Three o'clock is the countdown.

Four to midnight is the watch.

It is a beautiful, sunny, warm summer day.
This is the kind of day that lightning bolts come out of the blue.
Listen for thunder. Take heed.

Nothing extreme for Massachusetts.

Lake Winnipesaukee, in New Hampshire, did not get another water spout, but they did get an impressive storm.

Someone's house caught on fire because of a lightning strike.

The storm headed North.

Portland Maine saw some excitement-

Severe thunderstorms brought heavy rain, lightning (plenty of it) and even hail to parts of southern and central Maine on Sunday.

The usual power loss, downed trees and flooding.

It was a dark and stormy night, for someone on the dartboard.
Whatever it was, it passed by in silence.

Today, Godzilla- sized clouds, sailing majestic and mighty.

Most thunderstorms produce lightning, by definition. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be struck.

Move inside. It doesn/t have to be raining yet since lightning can strike 10 to 15 miles away from the rain portion of the storm. These lightning strokes come out of the upper portions of the thunderstorm cloud which extends 5 to 10 miles into the atmosphere.

In general, lightning will travel the easiest route from the cloud to ground which means that it often strikes the tallest object.

Therefore, a simple rule is to not make yourself the tallest object or stand near the tallest object in your immediate surrounding. For instance, do not stand in an open field, on a beach, or on a hilltop. Do not stand under an isolated or large tree or near a pole, and do not stay out on a boat. If you are in a forest, you should seek shelter in a low area under a thick growth of small trees. If you are in a group of people, spread out keeping several yards apart from each other.

Stay away from metal objects such as fences, poles, equipment, pipes, etc. Get rid of metal objects on your body such as coins, money clips, hair pins, jewelry, etc. Stay away from water. Inside, stay away from electrical appliances, televisions, and telephones. Only use the phone in an emergency.

If you feel your hair stand on end, you are in immediate danger of being struck.

Unless you can instantly jump inside a shelter, drop to a crouching position, bending forward and keeping your feet close together with your hands on your knees. The object is to be as low to the ground as possible, but with as little of your body surface touching the ground.

Thunder in the afternoon, thunder at night.

A good deal of hail at the New Hampshire border, this afternoon.

We are getting our share of lightning.

TT the Bear’s Place is gone, too. The Phoenix was never replaced, so who is saying something about it ? Just what America needs! More junkies in 2015. The Phoenix would have said something, before it happened. This explains the new policy.

Please do not experiment with summer vacation heroin.

Poison is not recreation.

I was born in 1954. There were junkies before I was born. Heroin killed great musicians when I was a teen. The war on drugs must have failed. More people are dying from heroin, than ever before.

wow

The storm that blew through, must have been a doozie.
Power outage on the T.

We are still paying for the Big Dig.

Who knows, who was salivating over the prospect of Olympics in Boston ?

Today-

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced he would not be pressured into signing the host city contract that puts the city on the hook for any cost overruns. Gov. Charlie Baker had been unwilling to pledge his support, waiting instead to see a full report from a consulting group that wasn't scheduled to be complete until next month.

Outage due to fallen line on the T. More storms, but it will not last.

The weather people are insisting on telling people to pay attention to thunder.

Not a beach day, in Vacationland, or the yacht cottages.

National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bristol County, Mass. until 4:45 p.m.

Heavy rain, frequent lightning, damaging winds and hail are possible. There could also be localized street flooding in heavier downpours.

Possible ? The targets on the dartboard confirm the misery.

The danger at Ispwich moved South. Closed beaches.

Blood Red sky at dawning, today.

On the coast, the most disturbing sight in the sky would have been an anvil cloud.

Now, it is expected to have a tornado warning attached.

(Yes, today. /end eyeroll sequence )

What would the cod fishermen, make of that ?

The old quaint breed has died out.
