Bitching about Boston

The good weather is here, and so are the problems that come with visitors.

Some neighborhoods include gunfire. The locals have their grapevine.

The Blue Angels are making their second loop over Boston.

The squadron's six-jet F/A-18 Hornet Delta Formation will flyover multiple times on the east side of the harbor area and at least twice near Fenway Park.

Tornado Alley East hit at least one town, on the Massachusetts dartboard.
Others experienced the power of mild tornado lightning. Firemen answered.
You can keep the Texas sized lightning out West, where it belongs. yikes
Could we please have our Massachusetts sized hurricanes, back ?
They sent some Southern style hurricanes, and they were too oversized for
small New England villages. Nor' easter works just fine, for Winter storms.

Boston is back to normal. It is chilly, wet, and gloomy.
Save that California style sunshine for August.
We have lawns, and brown and crisp is not a good look.

Burlington Police are finding more and more people posing as handicapped relatives or worse - taking the identity of a dead disabled person just so they can park in a prime spot.

Burlington officers said they are also finding people who alter handicap placards almost like a Fake ID replacing their name and picture for their own use.

http://www.whdh.com/story/29019337/handicap-placard-misuse-a-cause-for-concern-in-burlington
... That got the driver a $200 parking ticket and a $505 misuse citation.

Misuse of placards is such a concern that Burlington's Disability Access Commission paid for two officers to monitor handicap parking for 10 days in March.

They ended up giving out 159 parking tickets and 11-misuse citations.
That's $37,355.00. I hope those officers got a bonus.

Somewhere in the USA, they have all the flooding that they ever want to see in their lifetime. Here, I am grateful for what drops of rain we get. The woods are dry, dry, dry.

Today, I compared the wild roses against the cultivated roses. (The wild roses won. They sent up a cloud of pollen, that you could look at and swear it was mist.)

I talked to a woman that experienced a micro- burst on her street.
The lightning took out a historic tree, and it took out the neighborhood transformer and flung it onto a car.

WTF Everything is making me teary, today. Emotionally, not allergen teary. I usually feel stretched too thin when a hurricane is in the air.

This is what results from people having more respect for money,
than they have for people who are genuine and honest.

Thanks, Republicans!

Vietnam veteran – Edward Hinckley, was cremated. But like dozens of other deceased, once he was in the hands of Dorchester funeral director Joseph O’ Donnell, everything went wrong.

Police called Mrs. Hinckley to give her the awful news: “They told me the ashes were not my husband. They didn’t know who they were, but they were not him,” she said.

Earlier this year, the family of a Dorchester woman discovered the ID tag from Ed Hinckley’s cremation — in the ashes that they thought belonged to their loved one.

Joseph O’Donnell has been in custody since last summer; he is facing almost 300 charges.

Police say he took grieving families’ money for cremations – but instead, stacked dead bodies in a Weymouth storage locker.

Why is Hilltop Steakhouse’s chimney still standing?

The answer is: It won’t be for long.

The chimney is set to come down within the week, Dennis January, a spokesperson for the owners of the site, told Boston.com.

As for the cactus, January told the Saugus Historical Commission in early April that there is a plan to preserve the 68-foot sign as part of the site’s redevelopment, according to a report by the Saugus Advertiser.

After 10 years of waging a battle with the Pope, for the right to worship in the church the community has built...

June 11, 2015

Parishioners illegally occupying a long-closed Roman Catholic church in Massachusetts were issued a reprieve yesterday after a judge ruled they could continue their round-the-clock vigil while they appeal a lower court decision that ordered them to vacate.

The church sits on roughly 30 acres of prime, largely undeveloped real estate overlooking Massachusetts Bay about 30 miles south of Boston.

They say their fight is not only about protecting the rights of Catholics to worship in churches they’ve known their whole lives, but also a stand against the clergy sex abuse scandal that rocked the Boston-area before expanding nationally and globally.

After the hearing, a few protesters expressed doubt the courts would ultimately side in their favor. But even if they lost in the end, they said the long fight was not in vain.

“People are more aware now of how the church hierarchy deals with parishioners,” said Terry McDonough, who says he spends one night a week sleeping at the church as part of the protest group. “They encourage you to participate, and they when you try to participate, they say ‘Sit down and shut up.’ It’s not right.”

In court, Dailey, the archdiocese lawyer, argued that there would be “absolutely no harm” to protesters if they end their occupation while the appeal is decided. He promised the archdiocese has “no intent” of selling or razing the property while the appeal is pending.

Massachusetts parishioners file emergency motion to keep church open

Parishioners occupying a Massachusetts Catholic church for more than a decade have been granted a few more days to stay in the building by a state court.

On Wednesday, the Massachusetts Appeals Court issued a stay of a lower court's injunction that required parishioners to leave St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church in Scituate by 5 p.m. Friday until their emergency motion asking the court to keep the Boston archdiocese from evicting them parish property is heard.

The appeals court scheduled a hearing on the motion for 11 a.m. June 11.

Jon Rogers, a leader of Friends of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, said the group disagreed with the May 14 decision of Norfolk County Superior Court Judge Edward Leibensperger, who gave parishioners 15 days to leave the church after hearing arguments in a lawsuit filed by the archdiocese seeking to remove parishioners from the property.

Rogers and his supporters filed an earlier emergency motion seeking a suspension of Leibensperger's original order pending an appeal. The judge denied the motion May 29 and set 5 p.m. on June 5 as a new deadline for parishioners.

"We're praying for some resolution here," Rogers told Catholic News Service on Monday. "The thing we need to do is stop the archdiocese from destroying our church."

The victims sued the Pope, the Pope sold the churches to pay for the damage done.

The Pope damages the faithful by taking away their home away from home.

So much money! They sold the land for millions. Location, location, location!

But, of course, the churches in very rich neighborhoods had powerful friends.
They kept their cathedrals.

Great Rock Bight on June 13, 2015

"Our highlights included ovenbird and red-eyed vireo, which were everywhere! But it was also eerily quiet there, as the other species that usually are abundant, noisy and easy to find were scarce. There was only one redstart and there were no great crested flycatchers, eastern wood-pewees or cedar waxwings. The Acadian flycatchers, a southern species that was present for several summers near the boardwalk on the universal access trail, were also absent.

And finally, at long last, it is raining. Three quarters of an inch of rain had fallen on June 15, as I wrote this column. This was more precipitation than we had in all of May and June. This does not end the drought, though.

We still need more rain.

You would have to be out of your mind, to be out, fishing in this weather.
These are not your great grandfather's weather patterns.

Will we be seeing a mega storm that covers the whole USA, in future ?

Tall Ships 2015

Juan Sebastian De Elcano sailed into Boston Harbor this week.

The arrival marks the beginning of a summer of ships for Boston with the Hermione, a French frigate, coming in July.

Restoration efforts

Using two cranes, USS Constitution‘s mizzen fighting top was carefully removed from the lower mizzen mast on the morning of June 18, 2015. The top will be refurbished during the restoration and reinstalled at a later date.

In the photo below, a man-bucket holding three Naval History & Heritage Command Detachment Boston workers hangs from the crane in the background. The crane in the foreground is lifting the fighting top. The smaller (brown) snow mast can be seen just aft of the lower (white) mizzen mast. Constitution‘s spanker, one of her largest fore and aft sails, would normally be set between a boom and a gaff from the snow mast.

Spanish Navy’s Juan Sebastian de Élcano

This historic 4-Mast Top Sail Schooner is the 3rd largest Tall Ship in the world and is the official training ship of the Spanish Navy. The Juan Sebastian de Élcano will anchor in the harbor on Monday, June 15th before docking at Pier Four in Charlestown on Tuesday, June 16th, where she will be open for public tours through Saturday, June 20th.
