Birth control pills

I stopped taking birth control pills about 2 years ago, but am planning to go back on them. Can anyone out there tell me if they've had success with any particular brand? The last ones that I took caused me to gain weight and didn't do a whole heck of a lot for my sex drive.

You might want to look into the Nuvaring (www.nuvaring.com) instead of going back on the pill. It delivers the same hormones as the pill, but since they are absorbed vaginally, they are in much lower concentrations then when they have to be absorbed through the stomach. The patch operates under the same principle, but you have to change it every week instead of once every three weeks.

Another option would be a progesterone-only pill, which isn't supposed to have the weight gain and sex drive problems associated with combination pills, but is also not quite as effective.

I've used ortho cyclen in the past and really like it. I've recently had to change because of the cost and am now on Desogen. it works, but I dont like it as much as I did the ortho. I tried ortho tri cyclen for a short period of time and that sent me all over the place with my emotions and everything. Like my shoe would be untied and I would start crying.... it was really messed up.

I've started the patch two months ago. Seemingly flawless, but if u do - u take one and wear it for a week - changing it the 8th day, then after three weeks you don't wear one - and you get your friend (which i dont feel is really a friend btw ) -- one suggestion though if u do it - i got really bad cramps when i put it on the first day of each week - suggestion is that u put it on just before bed and take two advil or tylonal at the same time.

My SO uses the patch and she loves it. Though shes a lot more moody on her off week, theres no worrying about forgetting. She's been on it for almost two years and we both love it. Ortho Evra.

I use Nuvaring and love it. The patch made me crazy moody like ortho tri cyclen did for willing and unsure. Which is why the Dr suggested the Nuvaring (b/c like Birdswife said, it's a lower concentration). Haven't used the pill in something like 4 yrs, so can't say much for that.

I'm on a low-dose pill. I'm not going to advertise the name b/c i think you should really discuss that part with your doc. Low dose is good for me b/c it changes my normally horrible, heavy, crampy periods to light periods that only last for 3 or 4 days. No cramps!! I used to be on a higher dose pill, but it made my period last for a loooooooooooooong time. not fun.

I havent heard of that one, but from what you described it sounds a lot like the depo provera shot. I think if you're going to limit yourself to few times per year then you might as well go wtih the depo.

I'm on Aviane generic for Alesse pills. My insurance pays for the pill so I always get generics whether I want them or not, but haven't had any problems. You should try talking to your doctor since every woman is different. I started on another b/c pill but they made me sick. I've been on these for almost 3yrs. I like being able to stop taking the pill anytime I want no way do I want depo provera.

I've been on Ortho Tri Cyclen since I was fourteen, thanks to irregular and heavy periods. The only weight gain was going up a bra cup size to a C. I don't knock it.

Never had any trouble with it, but everyone's body is different.

I like ortho tri cyclen, but I am always a little wary when it comes to new drugs because you don't "really truly" know its accuracy and effects to come. At least with ortho tri cyclen I know it works and that it has been around for a long time and I know that it doesnt have long term effects. Whatever you choose, I wouldn't go with the shots...I have heard a lot of bad things about them...Good luck!

My doctor put me on Yasmin and it works well for me. But then, I had very bad cramping and heavy periods, so I was begging for anything. I've been happy with it, no weight gain, no loss of sexual appetite, and it doesn't make me feel quesy or sick to my stomach.

However, only your doctor can truly let you know what is right for you and your body. That should be the first person you ask.

My doctor put me on ortho tri cyclen lo. After I started taking it I didn't stop bleeding for a month and a half!!! My doctor told me to keep taking it, that it was normal, so I did. Not to mention the nasuea I had from getting used to the new hormones. Now I'm fine, I barely get whispers of periods(like two days of super super light flow, no cramps) ... think I bled it all out during that first month and a half.

I just thought of something else. My mom was put on bcp's when she started to hit menopause, but they made her really sick. Her doctor told her to get a specific book (I cant remember the title), but she takes soy pills now and lots of different kinds of vitamins and changed her diet some to help her out. The whole menopause thing hasnt hit her that hard, at least not yet.

I have been on estrostep Fe for a while now and love it. my period is next to nothing at all ( if it even comes) and my doctor said that it was perfectly normal. no wieght gain, no nothing.

you have to go to a doctor to get the shot. they would not have you inject yourself.

Thanks gals...now I at least have something to talk about with my gnyo when I do finally get there. There are so many new products out there, it's good to hear real feedback about all of the different products before just attempting to use them. And I don't like to just take the word of the doc...it would seem that they have certain products that they like to promote.

there is.... it's called abstinence.

And so you know, not everyone uses birth control pills for birth control purposes. Some actually have a medical reason for using them.

I'm with you on this one. I've had mine for almost 7 yrs now, no problems, no cramps, nothing to remember.
