Does anyone else find themselves binge writing? I am not really a writer, although when I do write I think I do it well. When I finally settle down to do some writing, I find that it is hard to stop. I'll look at the time and think, "I just have to finish this section." An hour later I am still writing.

But then, there are times when I don't even want to think about writing.

Yes. Me, too.

Write to the exclusion of all else - legs get numb from laptop, forget supper (hubby handles details with the kids) don't hear the TV or stereo -

That hasn't happened in awhile, though. I'm hopeful it will start happening again very soon.

:)

Absolutely. I even call it "binge writing." The problem with binge writing, of course, is that like binging you also tend to wing--it's either feast or famine. Fun when you're feasting, no fun at all when it's famine :(

The real problem is binge posting.

Then you ain't doin' no writin' (grin).

Somebody stop me!

Peace (in 2007).

My best writing seems to come in spurts (yeah, go ahead, make the usual sexual reference jokes, ;) ).

I wrote 'I Believe' In about four hours, after chatting with a good Lit friend and feeling my Muse slap me across the face in the process.

I wrote the entirety of Pretty Baby -- nearly 270 pages -- in less than a single week. My highest votes are on that story.

Sometimes, I'll go weeks in which I simply cannot write. the ideas are there, but the will is lacking. So I'll take a break, do something else . . . play Xbox for a while, watch some TV, post on Lit for no reason whatsoever, pick up extra shifts at work . . . then, Bam! Tap-tap-tap-tap-tapatapatapatapa . . . .

I live for binge writing. For me, that's how it's done. I see the scene, smell the cigarette smoke and perfume, hear the words and gasps and cries . . . it all courses down through my fingers in a chaotic jumble.

And afterward, I feel like I just had great sex.

Writing is a passion first, a vocation second. Creativity is not something you can just turn on, not something you get dressed for or serve clinically like a telemarketer in a headset. It's always there, always simmering, waiting to boil over and ignite the flames that heat it.

And when it does boil, when it explodes and splashes and erupts, it is an amazing thing. It consumes and devours, heals and renews.

Well, that's my take on it, anyway . . . .

I'm not sure I "Binge Write"... I'm writing in my head most of the time. When it's written - a short story, a chaptet - I just sit down and write it. I just seems to pour out all at once.

And couldn't that be seen as binge writing?

Honestly, I can't see Stephen King constantly at a typewriter . . . Christ, even Jack Kerouac took a break now and then!

Great minds think a like I suppose.

Anyway, I did it again. 10 o'clock and I decided to write a little. 11:30, I should probably wrap this up. Now it's 1:17. Good thing I don't have to work in the morning.

Oh, jeez, I do . . . why the f*** am I still up?

I binge write. I didn't know it until now, but that is the perfect description of how I do it. I write pages and pages over a few days, and then I don't write anything for months. I wrote some yesterday though. Hopefully I'm working up to my next binge :D

I look at the time and think "I just have to finish this word." And then I don't even do that.

I spent about six hours straight working on a story once. At the end, felt like I had a runner's high. :)

I think all writers binge write at one time or another.... I know I have.... when I look up and have plowed through 10 or 12 thousand words without as much as a pee stop I can't believe it.

My story "Blindman's Bluff" was written in one sitting... then I wnet to bed... ten minutes later i got up and rewrote the ending.... Some things just have to be gotten out of my head.....

I am not certain about binge writing - the conotations make me vomit and would probably make my readers do the same from my overload of useless words. However - bungie writing?

The kind where you just have a paper, pen (yes those OLD things) and write without care for punctation and grammer just to get things down and feelings out in one long endless spin of words and come back and write a story of some sort maybe long or maybe short about whatever happened cuzit intigued me and I was high for a second or maybe 30 minutes while writing whatever the fuck my last thought was which was certainly interesting even if I lost it so it wasnt that important after all?

Yeah - Bungie writing I am into. I know Ogg is great at it! ;) Or at least I hve seen him to be.

However, unlike Ogg, I think I got into it from being in so many detentions in highschool: 1 page = 250 words = 30-minutes, which means detention is almost over. :D

I did that last night, i had an idea whilst driving to the DIY store , settled down at about 4pm and wrote fairly solidly until nearly midnight. I had to break off a few times to feed the kids and send them to bed (damn those kids, they know where the fridge is!).. but i had written half my story in that time. I had to force myself to leave it and go to sleep. tonight i got stuck into it again, and voila! It is finished apart from editing. :D I guess that is binge writing...
