Someone in the UK has just won 101 million pounds on the EuroMillions lottery.

It wasn't me.

But if you won that much, what would you spend it on?

It wasn't me.

But if you won that much, what would you spend it on?

A few charities would benefit.
My kids might even get some.

I know they say that money can't buy health and happiness, but I would see what close substitutes I might be able to purchase.

Business capital.

Health insurance for me and mine.

My bills paid.

And a pony.

I would give to the SPCA because the animals deserve it more than most people.

I would then buy a small castle with a moat and a draw bridge to keep away all of my 'friends and family' that I never knew I had.

Then, what the hell, I'd buy out Literotica, find a way to get people paid for their stories and kick off everyone in the General Board.

First of all, I wouldn't claim the ticket in my name. I'd set up a foundation first and put all my family and friends on the payroll.

Then, I'd run everything through the foundation, house, cars, travel, and expenses, while making sure that I stage fund raising events to maintain the foundation eternally.

I'd live a lavish but discrreet lifestyle.

Hmmm ... that's around 51 mill USD ... that's a lot of Benjamins. :D

I think I'd set up a nice portfolio of stocks, bonds and mutual funds divided among six brokerage houses and six fund companies in order to be fully diversified.

Then I'd set up a low interest loan program to provide working capital for entreprenurs to start businesses and provide assistance in preparing business plans, bookkeeping practices, inventory control, personnel management and the like.

I'd donate to some worthwhile charities who use the bulk of their donations to help people, not on advertising and fancy offices for their executives. The Salvation Army comes to mind.

I'd give all my relatives 1 mill each. Period. No more.

I'd invest in the Arts and Sciences as I saw fit. Cancer research would top the list.

I know I'd build a house on the Atlantic Ocean; as hurricane resistant as I could make it, and spend every morning I could watching the sun rise over the ocean ... kind of like I do now ... but without the house. :D

I'd live primarily on the dividends and interest from the investments. You don't eat your seed corn. ;)

TE, by my arithmetic, with the Euro around $1.35, it works out to more than $135 mil. What would I do? I don't have the slightest idea, except that the taxing authorities would love me to pieces.

Crap! You're right! I forgot Old Blighty went on the Euro.

The strategy still holds, though. As far as the feds are concerned, I'd shelter every fuckin' dime I could. ;)

Build a house, buy a couple more cars (not many, just a daily driver, a classic Trans Am, and a truck), train in kung fu for the rest of my life, keep my gaming computer up to date, make more Kick the Sun videos.

We didn't. We had the sense to stay well out of it. We still use pounds sterling which are worth about 1.1 Euros at today's tourist exchange rates.

101 million pounds is about 156 million US dollars.

I forgot to say. It's TAX-FREE!!!!

The winner leapfrogs David Bowie in Britain's wealth list. That's a lot of dosh.

I was having a conversation at work about how lottery winners come unstuck after a few years because they mistake a one-shot million pound payment as infinite when it isn't, especially if they go nuts for extravagance.

I reckon you can:

a) Quit the day job and live a boring but comfortable life.
b) Keep working and have room for a lot of extravagances.

The people that get in trouble try and do both a) and b).

That's for the "little" big wins.

For a 101 million I think they can probably do a), b) and probably c) and d) as well :)

Me, I think I'd buy a caribbean island and fill it with hot Colombian chicas ;)

I would pay all my bills and debts first thing.

Then I'd make all necessary repairs and updates to my folks house (can't say I never did nothin' for 'em...)

I'd set up a non-profit (or 2...or 3...)

I'd set aside all necessary funds for my daughter's education.

I'd buy a house free and clear.

I'd buy a car.

I'd set up savings/checking accounts, buy CD's (not the music kind), stocks/bonds, investments, that sort of thing...

No idea what I'd do with the rest...donate a large chunk to various Ronald McDonald Houses....
