Beyond Time (closed)

"If for some reason we come to find we shouldn't be together... then I can find my way and I'll treasure what time we had. But I hope it never comes to that." Ashien gave her a smile. "And I don't think it will... People don't travel over nine-hundred years in time and stay so long just because it sounds like fun."

Dylan hugged Ashien tightly, her head burrowed against his shoulder as he promised that they were in this together and forever. It meant a lot to her that he was willing to see all of this through to the bitter end, no matter what happened.

Van worked on the piano in both time periods almost day and night, even going so far as to replace the strings, rebuild the mechanisms, tune it three times, and beyond. But nothing was truly wrong with it even though he began to feel a disturbance in its workings as well. Ashien did nothing but worry, and he did all he could to be home as much as possible, or at least to keep Dylandra at his side.

One morning, Dylan was asleep in bed, a smile upon her lips as she heard Ashien moving around the room and dressing as quietly as possible. He had made love to her until the wee hours of the morning and then once more when he finally woke again. She was sated, the smile deepening on her features as she thought about what kind of man her lover was. He was kind, considerate and incredibly passionate about her.

"Perhaps we should get married." Dylan murmured sleepily, her blue eyes finally opening to find him in the room. "Maybe then all of this madness with time would stop. Maybe it would show that I really do belong here with you."

Ashien turned to look at Dylandra in the middle of tying the lace at the throat of his tunic. "... Do you really mean that?" He certainly would marry her at the drop of a hat if she let him, but he didn't know if she was joking or just thinking out loud.

"It wouldn't be so bad having you as a husband." Dylan said with a slight shrug of her shoulders. "Of course, I would be a soldier's wife and have to be ready for all that entails. I think it would be lovely, though."

"Then get dressed," he grinned at her. "I'll meet you at the church by the market. I have a couple things to pick up." With one more kiss, he was gone out the door.

Dylandra was left with a smile on her face as he told her to get dressed and to meet him at the church. Once he was gone, she was up quickly, pulling on a gown of light blue that was the prettiest she owned. She left her hair loose save for one braid around the crown of her head. Her heart was pounding loudly against her ribs. Was she really about to do this? It made her incredibly happy to think about being married to Ashien, but she was feeling crazy for thinking about such a thing.

Ashien made short work of his errand to seek out a jeweler who had a ring of Dylandra's size ready. There were no jeweled rings, but there was a pure silver beauty engraved with a vine pattern that he found from a Kalma Erygonian vendor, and he knew it was perfect to match the vines Dylandra drew around her mark she put on her paintings. He also took the time to pick flowers and put them into a bouquet. Kiva gladly escorted Dylandra to the church in a carriage so she wouldn't have to worry about her dress getting dirty or ripped on horseback.

When they got to the church, Dylan gladly took Kiva's hand to step down from the carriage. Ballas was there, rubbing against her legs like a house cat as they waited for Ashien to arrive. She was happy, excited, and couldn't help the luminous smile that was on her face.

Ashien soon appeared on his horse Hane, slipping down from his saddle and tying his lead to the rail in front of the church. He smiled brightly to Dylandra, pressing the bouquet into her hands with a kiss. He then looked to Kiva. "Come in with me, friend. Be my Best Man." Kiva was absolutely floored at the suggestion, but headed into the church.

"And you, love," Ashien turned to her. "Wait right here. Ballas will walk you down the aisle."

He went in and the preacher was ready to marry them right away. It was only a couple minutes before the preacher's assistant came to fetch Dylandra, not surprised to see Ballas as he knew who Ashien was. "We're ready for you, miss," he said softly, opening up the doors for her. Ballas stood at her side, ready to walk with her.

Dylandra grinned when she saw her love appear, pressing a beautiful bouquet into her hands before he kissed her. He had kissed her that morning, nearly as fiercely before they tumbled into bed together. Now, he was making her his wife. That thought made her her belly clenched tightly and she nodded as he told her to stay put with Ballas.

When the time was right, she saw the doors open and Ballas led the way down the aisle to the rest of her life. This moment was sudden, put together at the last moment, but it was right. It was all incredibly right.

Ashien awaited her with Kiva beside, standing tall with an absolutely thrilled smile. Ballas came to nuzzle against his hand before sitting down beside Kiva, and Ashien thanked the great tiger softly. He took Dylandra's hand and they stood before the priest as he began to read out the traditional vows and ceremony.

Dylandra was over the moon as she stood before the priest with her handsome lover's hand in her own. It was all a bit overwhelming, but she was so sure at the same time as the priest began his ceremony. In a few short moments, she would be Lady Dylandra Ghis...a title she wanted to wear with pride.

"Do you, Sir Ashien Ghis, take this woman to be your wife?" The priest asked softly with a smile.

"I do," Ashien nodded. He could've said so much more in that moment, but the glance he gave to Dylandra told her how deeply he meant those two simple words.

"And do you, Dylandra Jennings, take this man to be your husband?"

"Most definitely I do." Dylandra said, giving Ashien the largest smile that she could muster.

She wanted to kiss him right then and there, but she waited. She would have waited for the rest of eternity if she could for him.

"Then by the power vested in me by the Catholic church and the country of England, I know pronounce you husband and wife." He closed his book and chuckled at Ashien. "Alright, young Ashien. You can kiss her." And Ashien didn't waste another second in doing exactly that.

Dylan laughed softly as Ashien swept her into his arms and kissed her. He was such a good kisser, she thought to herself as their lips met and she found herself drowning. He was overpowering in such a good way.

"I've got a present for you when we get home," he whispered to her when their lips finally parted. The preacher shooed them out with a laugh, wishing them all the best. Kiva drove them back in the carriage with Hane following, and he told them he'd take care of the horses when they returned. Ashien opened up Hane's saddlebag, retrieving a small object before taking Dylandra inside.

"No fair. I don't have anything for you." Dylan said as she waited for him to retrieve what he had gotten for her from the saddlebag. "Ashien Ghis, I do dare to say that you have a soft side to you. So much for the tough horseman."

"Who ever said I was tough?" Ashien grinned to her before stealing another kiss. "I'm just rugged and handsome with a heart of gold." He then opened the little box he'd retrieved, revealing the silver ring etched with vines. "I was going to use it in the ceremony, but... It was so perfect that I decided to give it to you now, when you have the chance to really look at it."

"Oh, Ash..." Dylan said in a whispered voice as he showed her the silver band with intricate vines. "It's beautiful."

She let him slip it onto her finger, the band glinting in the candlelight. She looked up at him with a smile, pulling him in for another gentle kiss. She couldn't have thought of a better wedding band than the one he had just slipped onto her finger.

"We'll have to find one for you." She murmured when the kiss ended.

"Surprise me," he smiled as John walked in, having just come from picking up materials for his latest project.

"Hey, guys," he said with a smile, interested in why they seemed so happy that morning. "What's got you two so excited?"

"Well, my friend, I've well and truly stolen your former fiancee," Ashien told him, as it was something they'd come to joke about between themselves. "We just got back from the church."

John couldn't help but laugh at them, shaking his head as he hung up his cloak. "I knew you two would never wait for a big white wedding."

"We simply just didn't want to wait at all." Dylan said with a grin as she glanced at Ashien. "But perhaps we should take some time for a feast? Surely Van can put something together for us to celebrate."

"Henry will do it first, just you watch. I'll bet you anything a rider will be here by noon summoning us to a banquet in our honor." Henry would do it too, being so fond of Dylandra and close with Ashien. Elizabeth would want an excuse to see John again too as his odd ways had caught her eye.
