I suggest a break up via text is perfectly acceptable in today's world and not that terrible.
The best breakup I ever heard about is a guy in the Army just got back from deployment and discovered his wife was fucking some guy for the past 6 months. He told her his Mom was sick and he was going home for a few weeks. Once back home, a state where he was still a legal resident, he filed for divorce on the grounds of abandonment. He came back to base and pretended everything was fine while the lawyer back home did his thing. About a month later he received the divorce papers. He then went to the house with the MP's and had his ex escorted off base with only one suitcase. He had also closed the bank accounts.
