Is thanking the volunteer in the first paragraph the "best" way to call out someone for being extremely helpful? Or are there any other ways? Is there a "most helpful volunteer" award?

In some works I've seen authors use their first few paragraphs to delineate as an "Author's Note" section where they can supply whatever relevant information is needed for the story to follow; oftentimes the last lines of that note are used to shout out any beta readers or editors who have helped that author with that particular work. If the beta reader/editor is also an author here on Lit, their names can be hyperlinked to their story profiles as sort of "free" advertisement. ☺️

What Nyah said! You should ask them for permission to first though, because some volunteer editors and beta-readers prefer not to be publicly credited. But if they'd accept credit, you should include a direct link to their Lit profile! You can do that with a tiny bit of HTML:

HTML:

I think naked pictures are always a great "thank you". But also what Penny said.
