Since it was brought up in a different thread and I'm bored I thought I would start one on the best sitcom episodes ever.
My votes:

1. 22 Short Stories of Springfield.
No one does supporting characters like the The Simpsons and I've always thought this episode is one of the best written I've seen. The Pulp Fiction parody alone is a classic.

2. The Soup Nazi
Classic. "No soup for you!"

3. Sam and Dianes first kiss.
"I want to punch you in the face"
"Do it and you'll be walking funny tomorrow."
"Are you as turned on as I am?"
"More!"

4. It's a Bundyful Life
Come on, Christmas, the Bundys and Sam Kinison. What more could you ask for?
'nuff said.

Simpsons have many gems, but I also like the sweet sarcasms of"Frasier". One of my favourite scenes was when Roz was pregnant, and Bulldog comes in, shouting "Hi, Roz! Found out who the father is, yet?"
To which this quick-witted lady calmly replies: "You know, I wanted to talk to you about that... do you remember that party..?"

"As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

Any one of the episodes of buffy in the second season. Since that is off the air, I get my chick kicks ass fix from Alias, but have only seen some the episodes of the second season, and the first episode of the 3rd season only aired this week, so can't pin point which is my favourite episode yet. Sex and the city - any episode with Mr Big in it. Absolute favourite is the 70s show - love it!

I admit to watching trashy shows!

I used to watch a show called the pretender or something, with a Jared in it. If anyone could tell me what happened in the very last episode I would greatly appreciate that. I just wonder if he found out about his parents or whatever.

There was no real last episode. And the "Pretender," wasn't a sitcom either. Probably the reason I watched it as I don't watch sitcoms.

Ok I'm goig to go all english on you :)

I love the Porridge episode where Fletch is trying to have a quiet Sunday reading his paper but people keep interupting him until he gets so fed up he throws the Prison chaplin off the balcony into the netting below just to be put in solitary!!!

My husband is a big Fawlty Towers fan and his favourite episode is the kipper and the corpse..I mean do you need to hear more than the title?*L*

The episode where Del Boy bottles up tap water and makes a fortune selling it as mineral water is one of my favourite only fools and horses ones.

And I m sure i'll think of more in the near future*L*

The episode of "Yes, Minister" where Jim Hacker is introduced to the Permanent Secretary, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, the Under Secretary, the Deputy Under Secretary, the ... you get the idea, and then asks, "Can any of them type?"

1.) Basically all of the Halloween specials
2.) Agreed, superb episode
3.) What sitcom is that (Sorry, I'm not from the US)
4.) Definitely all Episodes that conisted of two parts, i.e. The Bundys in England, on a cruise-ship, No Ma'am going to D.C. to reinstate Psycho-Dad
I want to add a superb show that is very succesful in Germany - The King of Queens, my most favourite show and I couldn't in a million years name one episode that is best, they're all great

Third post on the thread, and someone else has already brought it up. The WKRP Thanksgiving episode is without question the funniest half-hour in television history.

The absolutely funniset part of the WKRP episode is Les Nessman doing the live broadcast and his recounting the turkey fiasco to his co-wokers.

"Then things got surreal. It was almost as if they mounted a counteroffenseive against the helicopter."

I'm glad the Brit shows were introduced. I love Fawlty Towers, the kipper/corpse episode was superb. Then there's Black Adder and AbFab.

I've been watching "Last of the Summer Wine" recently and it is uniquely funny for me, set in a small Yorkshire town with very fine actors who seem like real people. It focuses on three old mates, men, but I love the women of the show and wish I could know them.

In one episode two older women were discussing how they could outdo another in insults. My favourtie female, Nora Batty, said, "She's got too much flesh on her to be really mean."

BlackAdder is awesome, really love it, especially the last season of it. I always get mad thinking about how Rowan Atkinson is only recognised for his rather dumb Mr.Bean role when he is such a genious in terms of humuor.
Snoopy,
P.S.: 'Visitor for you Cpt.BlackAdder' - 'What does he look like?' -
'Small and Ugly' - 'Come in Baldrick!'

Since we are on the Brit shows, I grew up watching Monty Python and Benny Hill. Our local PBS station always showed them at night and I found them hilarious. I've moved away from the Benny Hill humor but I still find Python funny.

Ah, Snoop, I adore Baldrick. P.

Well good old Balders, what can I say?
'My father was a nun' - 'No Baldrick, he wasn't' - 'Yes he was, everytime he was asked for his occupation he answered: none'
Snoopy

Snoop, can you provide a Baldrick quote a day? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeze. Name your price.

Perdita ;)

Lol, I guess that's priceless. But I'm afraid I won't be able 'cause it's been a while since I saw it on TV. And they seem to refuse to rerun it here in germany. But I'll try to throw in one or two :)

oooh yes Last of the Summer Wine...what a classic! I have watched it well seemingly forever with My Grandad(when he was alive) and still with my Nanna. My Mum and younger sister love it also but we tend to laugh at slightly different things. It is a unique programme but definitely deserves a mention. I love the episode (with Foggy in it I think) where they take up crisps and chocolate to the health farm and smuggle them in *chuckles* oh and any episode where Edie drives the car "He's moved that gear stick again!" *chuckles more*

Don't tell him Pike

Any episode of "Knowing me, knowing you." or "I'm Alan Partridge"

Father Ted with the "I don't believe you." man.

Red Dwarf and the virtual reality game and the squid of despair.

Gauche

I second Gauche's two Red Dwarf suggestions. Dwayne Dibley! Just hearing the name cracks me up.

I'd also like to add, Bottom - Wimbledon Common. Classic slapstick stuff, with Richard Richard (Rik Mayall) running around being "Hocketypunktus". Very funny!

Lou

I haven't seen it (yet), but after a visit to England my older son came home gushing over "Father Ted", said it was too too funny. I hope it and other shows above are available on dvd. I'll go with nearly anything Gauche or Loulou suggest ;) .

Perdita

Last of the Summer Wine, the episode when it is hot in August and Compo keeps his wellies in the deep-freeze.

"Nothing like iced wellies in the summer," he says.

Clegg remarks, "That will be interesting for the Cottage Hospital. I don't suppose they get many frostbitten toes in the summer."

3. Sam and Dianes first kiss.
"I want to punch you in the face"
"Do it and you'll be walking funny tomorrow."
"Are you as turned on as I am?"
"More!"

That was Cheers, Snoop.

PierceStreet, I remember seeing that episode of Empty Nest and I thought it was pretty outstanding myself.

How about the episode of MASH when Col. Blake gets an oak desk that he dearly loves?

"What kind of wood is that Henry, oak?"

"No, it's oak."

and then Hawkeye and Trapper barter the desk with a black market dealer for an incubator or something like that and they have to knock down the entire wall of Blake's office to get he desk out. Then the look on Col. Blake's face as he sees his desk for the last time as a chopper takes it away.

Hawkeye: "Isn't that your desk, Henry?"

A very dismayed Blake: "Yep."

Hawkeye: "What's it doing up there?"

Blake: "I don't know but it just keeps going up and up."

Ah thnx for the info. I know Cheers but just seen it a couple of times. Remember the fine intro-music though.
And as for MASH, I liked the movie better.
