Best and Worst Novel You've Read This Year

Can I put a novel that I haven't quite finished as my best? :)

I'm currently reading Cloud Atlas. It's very different from the movie especially around the Somni-451 chapters. And the rest just have a lot more depth and characters. I can see why a lot of people who read the book dislike the movie, but I'm just glad I saw the film first, otherwise I probably would have stopped reading the novel 30 pages in. The language used in the Adam Ewing chapters is really difficult to get used to, but I mustered on, knowing how much I enjoyed the film.

The worst novel was Cycle of the Werewolf. I love Stephen King (and have read 49 of his 53 novels now. :D ) And I'm glad I read Cycle so I could check off another book, but to be honest, it was pretty terrible. Short, but terrible. I only need to read Insomnia, Black house, Talisman, and the Colorado kid, and I'll have read ALL of his books. :D

With a few short stories and his nonfiction works to muddle through near the end.

Insomnia was one of my favorites.

Funny how people vary. I thought insomnia was the cure for said disease.

Cycle of the werewolf was not the best but it features art from comic great bernie wrightson.

The movie version silver bullet was better

I tend not to follow best seller's lists or critic's top choices for any given year. I usually to skip around sort of randomly, depending on what I'm interested in at any given moment.

I bought a used copy of Angels and Demons a few months back. I figured at a buck fifty and no cover, it was a low risk proposition. Even at that price, the money spent was wasted. I literally made it about 5 pages into it before I tossed it. Absolutely execrable writing. First time in my life I actually threw a book in the trash. Perhaps one of the worst books I've EVER (partially) read.

This year, for my favorite(s), I'd have to say my "discovery" of Neal Stephenson. Cryptonomicon and Anathem blew my socks off.

My best read this year was a re-read of "Spangle" by Gary Jennings. I love to read historical novels.

My worst was probably "When the Lion Feeds" by Wilbur Smith. The story itself was interesting enough, but I read it in an e-book format, which was riddled with typos making it difficult to read.
