.... what other tv shows are popular with the people of lit.?

I'm pretty much a tv junkie, although I'm not nearly as bad as I used to be. back in my pre-internet days and when I had 2 vcr's, there were at least 2 or 3 shows every night that I had to watch, and I think some nights it was more like 4 or 5. hell...maybe it was as much as 6 or 7, that was years ago.

even tho I'm semi-reformed, there are still shows on almost every night during the season that I'm addicted to. mondays are 24 and two and a half men. (these are from last season...who knows what the new schedule will bring?)

tuesdays were the amazing race, rodney and nypd blue (a moment of silence for andy and the gang, please....)

wednesday is lost and law and order. well, it used to be. I didn't care for the latest round of cast changes.

thursdays are survivor and joey. no, it's nowhere near as good as friends was but I still watch it.

can't think of anything from friday and saturday but there's bound to be something I'm forgetting. sunday is desperate housewives, king of the hill, the simpsons and arrested development. besides that, the f/x network has some very good shows...the shield, nip/tuck and rescue me all kick ass.

what about y'all? let's talk some tv, past and present.

p.s. my apologies if this is the wrong forum. I keep seeing the west wing thread here, so I assumed it was ok to post.

I see nothing wrong with posting this here. :)

Personally, I never have enough discipline to follow a show that shows once a week at a specific time.

But, I do quite adore CSI and Law and Order ('cause they're on often enough that I catch them whenever).

Hi Moon, Ya I'm gonna miss the Blue.
I didn't watch "Lost" during the regular season but I'm watching it in reruns. Looks good and I'll prolly pick it up when the season starts.
I watch "Survivor" regularly, and of course "West Wing".
Also watch "House" , "Boston Legal","Law and order". and the wife watchs "Dog the bounty hunter"(don't ask me)lol. I mighta forgot some.
I work evenings so we tape em and watch em on the weekends. I can see I'm gonna have to be careful what I read on here, when the season starts, to keep from finding out what goes on afore I get a chance to watch em.
Theres prolly some more I'd like to see, but I just got so much time to watch recordings. lol.
Anyhow welcome. :)

TV i watch besides the west wing...

i watch the following:

on food network:

iron chef
iron chef USA

F/X:
nip/tuck
the shield

definitely "lost" and "desperate housewives"... then there's "west wing" of course... "emeril live" when there's nothing else at 8pm... "larry king live" if there's a good guest... stern's E! show... "survivor" and "apprentice" (the latter of which may fall off my radar if it doesn't improve)...

and i love old movies.

I don't watch that much TV. Not because I'm opposed to it or anything, but because I'm usually doing other things. Most of the time I watch Nickelodeon because of the kids, and while there are some decent shows there, they're not my favorites.

I used to enjoy NYPD Blue when it was on. One things I've learned, though, is that it's difficult to watch cop shows when you're married to a cop. :)

I also like The Simpsons, King of the Hill, etc., but my all-time favorite show is Murphy Brown, which is on Nick at Nite now.

The Science Channel's on right now.

Reruns of Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Family Guy
American Dad
Black Books (Hey, it's new to me)

I'm a semi-regular watcher of good eats, too. I think I like shows that aren't just about the recipe. there used to be another show called taste with david rosengarten that I enjoyed. he would go into a lot of the history of a particular dish kind of like alton brown does. I watch some of rachael ray's shows, too.... very cute but her voice drives me up a wall. I just wanna put something in her mouth to shut her up. ;)

I've never watched firefly but I have to try to check it out sometime because I was a huge fan of buffy. it's kind of funny.... I only started watching that show because I thought all the chicks were hot. who knew it would turn out to be such a great show? I was late to the party because our cable system didn't start carrying the WB until the 2nd or 3rd season, but I made sure I went back and caught up with all the repeats. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried when buffy had to kill angel to save the world. ok...maybe I'm a little ashamed. lol

revolution> I don't think I'd consider law and order to be a guilty pleasure by any means. it's a well-crafted show that's enjoyed (I think) a lot of critical and ratings success over the years. it's another one I got into after the fact. I missed the chris noth years and didn't start watching until sometime after benjamin bratt joined the cast. I don't even remember why I started watching it, but I was pretty much hooked. the main reason I didn't watch this last season is that dennis farina has always bugged me. I dunno why.

a show like dawson's creek or bev. hills, 90210 is more along the lines of something I'd consider a guilty pleasure..... and yes, I watched both of them in their heyday. I mostly started watching them for the hot chicks, too, but sorta got hooked on the soapy goings-on. I still think that katie holmes is beautiful..... tom's a lucky guy. *sigh*

thanks for the responses so far.... I think these posts contain the most I've ever said on lit..lol.

I don't watch much TV. I have an unpredictable work schedule, so I can't really plan around a certain time to accomodate a particular show. The one show I watch every day is my soap, "The Young & The Restless."

apple biter> can't say much for your taste in tv shows, but happy birthday! ;)
just kidding. I've actually never watched dr. phil's show.... I don't do talk shows much, except for letterman. phil was pretty funny the few times I've seen him on dave's show.

hooper> what is black books?

eilan> I never would have figured you for a simpsons fan.

I watch dr phil a lot. I think he's a pompous ass most of the time but it's fun.

i've never watched dr. phil and i think he's a pompus ass too.

still entertaining though. i watch emeril, for example, not because i'm likely to make his dishes but because it's fun to watch someone enjoy cooking that much. it makes ME enjoy it more.

i never take tv too seriously though... whether it's educational, sit-com, news or whatever... it's still tv and the point of whatever i'm watching is diluted in a mixture of image and sound created/combined to be a marketing tool.

btw... i'm personally happy to see no one's listed "the today show" because katie couric and matt lauer are a couple of prudish tools who need to go away.

i forgot that i also watch lost. gr.

mrtnmoon: i'm a fan of buffy as well (gee, who would have guessed?) but haven't watched angel.

Yeah tv is fun as long as I realize it's mostly just entertainment. I do like to watch discovery and history channels ect.... I don't watch near as much tv as I did when I was younger. I don't watch sit coms and couldn't really tell ya whats on most of the time.

bridget> I used to watch soaps, too. there was a period of about 8 years where I was on disability and didn't work. for at least a few of those years I watched all of the soaps on cbs every day. back then *atwt* was my favorite. now that I'm working again, *the young and the restless* is the only one I see with any sort of regularity. do you have any favorite characters/plotlines? whenever I stumble across any of the others I barely have a clue who's who and what's goin' on.

ric> I promise I won't give away any details about *lost* here. all I'm gonna say is if you stick with it, the season finale was a real ass-kicker!

ej> you said you like to watch old movies. I'm curious as to how you define "old". I used to think of old as pre-60's or anything in b&w. I guess in my mind that's still the main definition. one day I was sitting with some of the people I work with, tho and I started talking about *fast times at ridgemont high*. this group of mostly high school kids just looked at me like I was from another planet..... so to them, I reckon that would be an old movie.

I'm not a big tv person, especially reality shows, but I really enjoy The Amazing Race.

Outside of that, porn or something of a historical nature.

Cheers,
Brad

to me, old is usually something from before i was born... and i think that's a fair definition for most cases.

i think if you're looking for a more fixed (less relative) definition, i'd have to say that an "old movie" is one made before the collapse of the "studio system."

I don't watch much television, but I do have a Tivo... so there's always something I want to see when I actually do feel like watching. The only show I'm passionate about is Lost, but I'll also watch CSI, The 4400, Survivor, The Daily Show, and others on occasion.

I started watchin the 4400 but gotta say I'm kinda disappointed in it. It's not bad just had too high expectations I guess. But then the wifes the scifi person in this house.
