about Rumsfeld saying that the Iraqis are violating the Geneva Convention by showing the US prisoners on TV, I feel that we should all remember that we're doing the same thing to the PoWs we're picking up...

You know the ones seen marching along with their hands on their heads in full view of the camera.

I think only one newspaper in the UK, The Observer, actually block out their faces so they can't be recognised...

actually, were doing more than just that. i saw a reporter walking through a group of pows last night as they were trying to sleep shining a camera light on their faces as the soldiers sat staring off into space. the reporter actually walked right up to one and picked up his empty rations to hold it up for the camera.

Yes, I thought that was an interesting statement. I heard it while looking at a picture of an Iraqi soldier who was laying on his stomach with two armed American soldiers behind him, his face in the sand.

I would be interested in seeing the geneva convention language. I see the reasoning behind it, and not having been able to see the actual footage, I would assume the Iraqi's showing assasinated US troops (if that is what they showed) would certainly violate that reasoning.

What the hell is a 'knickers'? Sounds fer'eign to me..

Anyway, having EPWs in a photograph or tape, is not the same as a crew going up and asking questions that are for formal interrogations. The fucking NV did the same to our pilots, so why expect any different from these bastards?
We shouldn't take any Republican Guard (SS) prisoners, starting now.
MOAB the bastards!

Panties in a bunch = Balls in a vice......

I couldn't find anything about photographing EPWs, this is all I could locate, anyone have a better source?

ARTICLE 13
Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated. Any unlawful act or omission by the Detaining Power causing death or seriously endangering the health of a prisoner of war in its custody is prohibited, and will be regarded as a serious breach of the present Convention. In particular, no prisoner of war may be subjected to physical mutilation or to medical or scientific experiments of any kind which are not justified by the medical, dental or hospital treatment of the prisoner concerned and carried out in his interest.

Likewise, prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity.

Measures of reprisal against prisoners of war are prohibited.

ARTICLE 14
Prisoners of war are entitled in all circumstances to respect for their persons and their honour.

Women shall be treated with all the regard due to their sex and shall in all cases benefit by treatment as favourable as that granted to men.

Prisoners of war shall retain the full civil capacity which they enjoyed at the time of their capture. The Detaining Power may not restrict the exercise, either within or without its own territory, of the rights such capacity confers except in so far as the captivity requires.

ARTICLE 15
The Power detaining prisoners of war shall be bound to provide free of charge for their maintenance and for the medical attention required by their state of health.

ARTICLE 16
Taking into consideration the provisions of the present Convention relating to rank and sex, and subject to any privileged treatment which may be accorded to them by reason of their state of health, age or professional qualifications, all prisoners of war shall be treated alike by the Detaining Power, without any adverse distinction based on race, nationality, religious belief or political opinions, or any other distinction founded on similar criteria.

Quick question:

Geneva Convention only applies in a war scenario.

Did the US submit a formal proclamation of War?

Just mildly curious.

The individuals you see in the US media are not POWs. They are being searched, stripped of weapons, and released for the most part. I am sure there are some who are detained for questioning etc...but those are the ones you do not see on tv.
