"Because it's there."

You guys, it is amazing the feats he has done.

Thor, just trying to get me to Alaska. No need to twist my arm, hun.

Perg, I thought of you, as he was talking about exactly what you were saying about wet clothes in the snow. He said you lose 25% more body heat with wet clothes. He stripped naked in the snow and proceeded to rub snow on his body. He said that doing that actually makes you become dry faster. I was thinking, huh? He rubbed snow in his hair and then waited before putting on dry clothes.

Babygrrl, the indoor climbing is going well? I really liked indoor climbing and strengthens so many muscles. I hope the little man does awesome tonight.

Hiya, BeBe!

*edit* Hey there, Vette.
Snow is absorbent. I guess you could get dry that way, though in a cold environment, the air is so dry that usually water will steam right off of you.

Well, he also did naked pushups before getting dressed. See? Sexy, I say. *wink*

Thor, don't throw snowballs at the moose. :D

Great to see you and have a great evening, BeBe.

There you go. Get some blood out to the skin to boil off the remaining water and then get dressed quick.

He's a tough bastard, that's for sure.

My perverted mind was thinking...

Ok, low pushups, wet in the snow; my nipples would be cutting ice through anything in the snow. So then I thought; his goods must have travelled to his throat.

Ok, yes I am a perv. :D

I think like that all the time.

Some DJ once said that she had "armor-piercing nipples." I love that phrase.

No moose sighted today! But lots of the fairer sex out practicing for the Ski for Women to be held this Sunday......

I lurk in there too, mostly. There doesn't seem to be any reason to post anything.

So I was just emailing with a friend about "learning to climb." I think the phrase is somewhat misleading. There are techniques of moving upward to be learned, for sure, but I think it may be more accurate to speak of "learning to be safe while climbing." The new student of climbing is unlikely to be told she needs to learn to grip things a certain way or whatnot. "Here is how to climb this route."

What I learned in my first four days of guided instruction was a lot more focused on the craft of rope work and belaying. The climbing was largely left to us to figure out on our own, to work out the problems of movement through trial and error and instinct. Anyone who has climbed a ladder or a tree or that damn rope in gym class has the basics. That level of skill and a calm mind will keep you moving upward through a lot of terrain. It's only when you get to specific kinds of climbing "problems," like, say, a vertical crack, or a hold you can only pull sideways on, that you start needing to be coached on technique. You can climb happily your entire life and never really have anyone "teach" you to climb.

That's spectacular. Damn. I have such a strong craving to get back to some mountains.

the sun was peeking though the clouds.......i was unable to see Mt Drum from Glennallen

Check out Outside Magazine this month...an interesting article (I have yet to read) about a mountaineer's son climbing Everest, I think (or some 8000m peak) to exorcise the ghost of his father.
Also an article on Tyler Hamlton returning to continental cycling after a two year drug ban.

Tyler who?

You should totally start a cycling thread, dude. Your experience with that--and knowledge of it--far surpasses mine of climbing.
