You people and your hand obsessions. I can only hope that the subsequent pics made you moan.
a little more than moan maybe.

it's a good obsession!
all the cool kids are doing it ;)

i've never climbed, but i have qestions anyway if you don't mind.

how high have you climbed?

have you ever gone down into the crevasses in a glacier, and if you have, what did you make of the colours? and the sounds?

is it usually noisy with wind and stuff, the sounds of equipment, breathing and voices when you're climbing, or are the moments of perfect stillness? if so, do you get that feeling some express about being closer to touching the face of 'god'?

does the blue of the sky on a clear day become more intense the higher you climb?

maybe we need a hands thread.
Maybe...I think Rebecca-with-glyphs has one on the BDSM board.

I'll see if I can link you.

it amuses me that you know that. heh.

another question:

do you feel in some sort of competition with nature or yourself, something to be challenged and attacked in a bid to win through? or do you feel more a sense of peace while you climb, working with nature, becoming a part of it?

1)how high have you climbed?

2)have you ever gone down into the crevasses in a glacier, and if you have, what did you make of the colours? and the sounds?

3)is it usually noisy with wind and stuff, the sounds of equipment, breathing and voices when you're climbing, or are the moments of perfect stillness? if so, do you get that feeling some express about being closer to touching the face of 'god'?

4)does the blue of the sky on a clear day become more intense the higher you climb?
Wow, thank you for your interest in climbing. This, being a typical Perg thread, had gotten off track...

Your questions are more than welcome:

1)The highest I've ever been is 15,600 feet.

2)Not down, exactly, but I was able to walk into a crevasse once...the glacier had left its snout where we made Advanced Base Camp. Here's a pic:

3) It depends on a lot of things. I've had incredibly windy, noisy times climbing, and also had still-as-death times. I don't really have a sense of god, bu there is definitely something very spiritual about being high in the mountains. And there are definitely moments of perfect stillness.

4) I've never noticed a change, but it may be that I'm focused on other things. Alpenglow, however, the shining of the setting sun on the peaks, is an absolutely magical thing. I know no other comparable experience in terms of light.

For me it's very much about harmony, about exploration. I wanted to learn the technical aspects of climbing so I could interact with mountain landscapes. I have no love for people who see climbing as a process of conquering something, whether it's the mountain or themselves.

i asked about the glacier because of some things i've seen and heard about/read - about the colours within the ice, blues and greens... also about how it has to be done at certain times of day to reduce hazards... and the groans, low-thunderous noises that can be heard as the ice shifts. but your picture is still impressive to me, since it's a very different view to the normal above-ground one. ty :)

and when i said 'god', yeah, i did mean the all-encompassing spiritual sense and not a single, religious-claimed enitity.

have you any pictures of that Alpenglow? it sounds very moving.

I've seen and heard those accounts as well. Glaciers are incredible...sleeping on them, you can hear ...stuff... happening underneath.

I don't have any really good pics of alpenglow. Let me get back to you on that.

stuff. yes :) stuff. and if you feel the vibrations as well as hear the sounds, maybe that makes you feel even more apart of the ice-world you are visiting - you're moving with the glacier. in tune with its motion.

if you can get hold of any, i would love to see them. i like light - how it changes, its subtleties - and i was left feeling 'different' for a long time after experiencing the changed light of the eclipse. we didn't get to see the full eclipse, but a sort of 3/4's one where we were, but i haven't seen light like it or since! and the birds were all flocking to roost in the early afternoon, the grass of the fields was far greener, purples and blues seemed more distinct too. yummy
