"Because it's there."

It is probably about30 miles*?*. I *think* it's on Reservation land. I am not sure about permits and such for climbing. I know when I was living there we had to get Reservation permits, not just State.
Hmmm. Wanna go climbing? I need someone who speaks Arizonian....

Thor, that is an amazing picture. I want to visit Alaska so bad. One of the few states I haven't been to.
Let's go there first, then AZ to warm up again.

Sounds like a plan to me, but the naughty side of my mind can think of ways to warm you up even in snow. *I am evil*

Then you should come to Alaska. I have lived here since I was born and I take a lot of what Alaska has to offer for granted. I see people visit who "have always wanted to go to Alaska" and when they get here, they are old and virtually spent (physically). The fun parts of Alaska are not necessarily kind to older folk. Yeah, they see some of the state before they die, but they have no idea of what's really out there. Bring your surfboard, a kayak or two, climbing gear, skis, etc. and have THE time of your life. You never know who you will meet, but you will meet some cool people.

disclaimer: The author once wore a "I brag about Alaska" button.

I did that snow thing once. I ended up with a really bad cold and a smile that lasted for weeks.

That's not evil. Evil is NOT thinking of ways to warm me up in the snow.

Yeah, I thought of that after I posted it. I was thinking of a friend who surfs here a lot.

That's right; I think you told me that before. What kind?

I have been to several countries and most of the States, but not to Alaska. My double duty wetsuit? *teasing* A friend in Colorado kayaks quite often in winter and he said there are particular kayaks used than what is here, which is usually warmer waters. I may have to rent up there. I will have to double the string and buy knew reels for my rods, I should think. When I deep sea fish, the first mate takes care of it, but I would presume I would need thick lines for stream fishing there. Skiis, no problem. Camping gear, no problem. Some equipment, I would need.

So far, everyone I have met either online or IRL from Alaska have been most wonderful.

It's a great place, in my limited experience. When Mrs Perg lived up there she said it was true that, regarding the men, "The odds are good, but the goods are odd." I met a few characters in Talkeetna, but everybody was really friendly. The landscape is enormous; it was hard to take pics that had any sense of the scale of the place. I saw bald eagles and moose all over the place. Just amazing.

I mostly work on projects in cold regions. Some specialty stuff.

One of my girlfriends moved to Anchorage and then toward Juno *I may be mistaken on Juno, as has been about 10 years ago*, but she said the moose would come and graze in her backyard. She was taught very early when she arrived there how to react to a moose, especially if it is a mother moose.

Just another place I want to go. The Mrs. has been everywhere. Does she want a travel girlfriend? ;)

I was going to say "That's cool," but I realized the pun would be awful. Interesting; I'd like to hear more.

Mrs Perg and I have talked about going to work in Antarctica for six months when I'm done with the undergrad stuff and have a year off before med school.
