Can you really improve on God's work without insulting him?

No need to discuss.

So get over it.

Grotesque Portrait Study of Man.
Leonardo da Vinci.
c. 1500-1505.
Black chalk on paper.
Oxford, The Governing Body, Christ Church, UK.

In God's eyes, and many others, this is beautiful.

Yep, and I'll do it again tomorrow when I shave my head.

So, is the drawing, which is produced by a man, still God's work?

Okay, the point of this all is in light of the point that when da Vinci was contracted to do this piece, many people believed he'd paint the man to be 'better' looking than he is. When the crowd was shown what he'd done, they gasped with dissapointment.

The man who was the subject was present. This hurt him more than the already long hurt put on him in life. Leonardo rested his hand on the man's shoulder and said to the crowd something of the effect that God made this face, and you can't improve on God's work.

You may not find him beautiful, but God does, and when we hate something God made we insult God. This includes our hating ourselves.

I am just being, well, annoying with myself, trying to love myself. That is all. I hope you can love yourselves also, no matter what others think or say.

That is my only point in this.

So are you saying I shouldn't shave my head?

I can't say, and wouldn't propose to know. It might have been. Leonardo might have been compelled by God to try and produce a true to life image of this man to make a statement about how people interpret art and beauty as being ungodly. Or, I don't have a clue, which is most likely the case. :D

Cutting your hair and chopping up your body in plastic surgury, or destroying your soul over what you look like is a vast unsimilarity, not to be compared.

Shave away, just don't change that smoocher.

Excellent point Fishie. I try to tell myself this every morning. It is a daily struggle.

I really, really needed to read this right now! Thank you. :)

You are beautiful!:rose:

Valid point Ms. Fish... We may not be able to improve on God's work. But sometimes we THINK we can.

You know fishie, I think creators/artists have more appreciation for the beauty of the original. Designer passion expresses love for its creation.
