When writing a story which will be submitted in several parts, is it wise to switch categories? What if the story doesn’t have a central category?

Here’s the down and dirty:

Six-part story.

First part is finished and features two man/woman encounters and has a strong lesbian theme running through the middle.

Parts two through six will include MF, Exhibitionist, Voyeur, lots of Group Sex, continued Lesbian, an undercurrent of Romance, a touch of Toys, several Masturbation scenes, and of course, some Anal.

Yeah, I know. How the fuck is he going to do all of this? I’m not sure I can pull it all off but I’m giving a shot.

AsylumSeeker has graciously edited the first part and says to put it in Lesbian. My problem is that I know some of the chapters will have so much more and may not have much lesbian at all.

Novels and Novellas?

Help!

I would say Novels and Novellas, unless you're going to put Author's Notes in each chapter telling the reader where to find the next chapter.

Or, since you're beating yourself up, maybe BDSM? :D Just kidding.

Good luck with the series. Sounds challenging.

The site editors pretty much have the final say on categories anyway, so it may not be worth it to agonize too much.

I know how you feel, my series started out as non-con but it seem to be heading toward BDSM and exhibitionism, even lesbian.

I have decided I would use the most fitting tag for each chapter. Who knows, maybe it will bring some new readers to it, although I'm not doing it for that.

Don't be afraid of mixing follow-up stories in different categories. My experience has shown several things. First off, posting a story in the wrong category can have disastrous results despite the best of intentions. Secondly, if a story catches the interest of a reader they'll likely read others regardless of the category the story is posted in. So many times readers are more concerned about the story than where the chapters happen to show up.

Just my two cents' worth. Hope it helps. Trust me, any readers that enjoy the first one will be hungry for the next, myself included <grin> And there's no doubt in my mind that people reading future chapters would easily want to catch earlier ones.

Thanks for the thoughts

I'll let you all know when it hits the boards. I've decided to go with Lesbian (thank you, AS) for this first part and then agonize over the next part when the time comes. Wish me luck.

What is important to *you* about the story?

Due to actively avoiding RL I can say with some reasonable assurance that romance, toys, group sex, voyeurism, exhibitionism and masturbation appear in all categories on Lit. Unless the story is heavily focused on one of those would it seem appropriate to put it in those sections.

If the lesbian theme is strongly important to the plot you might want to keep it there and just leave an author's note that there are other relationships in the story.

Of course Novels and Novellas is always a good choice if you have a long story with various themes in it.
