Hi, I haven't found anything that quite answers my question.

I want to shave, don't have the money for a salon and have a few issues to deal with

I want to shave myself, but I am overweight and not terribly flexible. I am a bit worried that if I use a razor I may cut myself due to the angle I may end up at while reaching between my legs. My hair is extremely straight. WOuld waxing be the way to go, or are their options that work better?

I'm not terribly flexable either... I've found a way or two around not wanting to do shower acrobatics.

have you tried sitting on the edge of the tub, or a warm bucket of water, some shaving cream and sitting on a chair or on the floor with a mirror?

waxing works, but I've never had "the balls" to do it to myself lol

Can you squat parallel to the side of the tub with your knees spread and reach between your legs? That's what I've found works best for me. With the shaving cream and everything, I can't necessarily see, but I start at the back (near my butt), put the razor flat on the level surface of my skin, and just pull it up in smooth strokes. Go very slow, make sure the water's not coming down on you directly, have a good grip on the razor, and feel/guide with your free hand. Because everything's more strectched out than when I'm sitting or standing, getting the curves and a close shave are much easier. It also doesn't hurt my neck or anything. :)

The other important thing I've found is a razor that has a flexible head is a requirement. I've used ones with a fixed head, and always cut myself because they're not forgiving with any curves. I like my hubby's Gilette Sensor Excel the best, but some of the disposable ones with flexible heads are great too.

You could try sitting on a towel on the floor with your legs spread out around a mirror so that you can better see what you are doing.

My ex-wife was overweight, too, and liked to keep her bikini area fairly trimmed, but had trouble seeing what she was doing. I eventually volunteered to do her shaving for her since I had done it with previous girlfriends. It eventually evolved into a ritual where I would lay her down on the floor on a towel and shave her bikini area, her legs and underarms for her. It was part of a pampering ritual I established for her. It wasn't until later that I came up with the idea of a larger size woman sitting on the floor with her legs around the mirror.

I would try the mirror idea or, if you have a willing partner, have him/her do the shaving for you. As for waxing, hot wax can be painful. I don't know if it is still on the market or not, but a cold waxing solution called Nads worked pretty good. It's still best to have some help with the waxing, though, especially around very soft parts like the bikini area.

I have to admit mrmgp is right on the money. On a towel on the floor works well and I have a mirror with an adjustable neck that I hold between my feet..lol Yep it's a sight to behold and not pretty but gets the job done. Also if you have a long mirror like the ones that go on the back of the bathroom door sitting on the edge of the tub facing the mirror works as well with a foot up on the sink or flip the trashcan upside down.

My method's fairly similar, except I put one foot up on the edge of the tub, and sort of squat what leaning against the shower wall (assuming you have an enclosed tub). I've found it's also important to trim and soften the hair prior to shaving. I use a product called Coochy cream (it can also be used as a body wash, and even hair conditioner), but I also recommend using a regular hair conditioner (I've found they soften the hair even better than the shaving creams and gels on the market).

edited to add: Lately I seem to have developed a love of parenthesis... hopefully my writing style isn't too mind-boggling.

When I'm at school (so this may not be able to work in your situation), I sit in front of the full length mirror and prop my legs up on whatever I can find. That way I can watch what I'm doing without having to...look over my flab. =/

I find that standing in the shower with one foot on the edge of the tub works well. I dont do it by sight though, I do it by touch. After the first few times I got the hang of it, and know where to shave and which directions and all that fun-ness that women have to figure out. The flexible head on the razor is something I wouldnt go without...it means a lot less looking...just let the razor slide slowly over your skin, and it should get all the hair for you.
Maybe I'm just the odd one out though, as I said, I dont use a mirror...

As others have said, I have found the best way to shave is to lay on a towel on the floor. But I prop my feet against a wall with my knees bent. Then angle my feet so that the souls are facing each other. I've also found that those new battery operated bikini razors do a great job. The one I have has a few length settings, so if I haven't shaved in a while, I do a trim first then go in with the bare all length and shave clean.

Could you share the name (and maybe a picture or link) of the shaver you have? I've been looking for a new one for hubby and I, but it's kind of a craps shoot. :)

I always sit on a small chair thingy in the shower.. and while I cant see what I'm doing.. I can feel it ;) I use Venus razors, have only cut myself once..

What the f**k ?

 You must be kidding! Just because you are lucky enough you don't gain weight easily or at least have to make not much effort to keep it off gives you the right to be so judgemental about overweight people? You know, some really can't help beeing overweight. It almost sounds (at least that is the undertone I hear) as if you think overweight people should not even make an effort to make themselves 'presentable'.

Yes, I am slightly overweight too but my BF does not mind. He loves every inch (or cm as we say in NL) of me. You know, there are a lot of men who adore big(ger) girls although not everyone dares to admit. They like the big butts and tits. And most of the time if that's what you want you have to take a bit more flesh on other parts as well.

I had a (girl)friend (not as in girlfriend :) ) some time ago who was so skinny she was like a sac of bones. She couln't help it eighter and we always used to joke how we could transfer some of my weight to her so we both would look 'perfect'. But I must say that I prefer my figure above hers if the choice had to be made. And believe me... if anyone stuffed their face it would have been her! And she did the sports and everything but no luck gaining weight. For me it is and always has been the other way around; I eat normal (could do with some more exercise, but even at times when I did that on a more regular basis nothing really happened), I am a moderate alcohol 'user' and try to live a healthy life. I use medicine though and this 'helps' with the extra pounds... But I feel great, am healthy and my BF loves and likes me the way I am so there is no problem, really.

And about the shaving? My BF does that sometimes for me... not because I can't do it myself but because he likes it. It is kinda sexy... But even for the skinniest amongst us.... there's always a part you have to do just trusting you will feel what you are doing (or use a mirror as others have suggested). There's just no way you can see what's happening down there, unless using a mirror or some 'strange' position . So I would say: practice and it will become something you can (almost) do with your eyes closed ....

M's girl,
Welcome to lit, there`s no point trying to rationalise with scarlett, she is just a rude bitch.
I suspect one of her boyfriends ran off with a bbw and she still hasn`t got over it, so just completly ignore anything she says and have fun. :rose:

Haha Quoll, you know what? You may be right! Plus... as soon as I had submitted my reaction I realized it probably was pointless trying to reason with "Scarlett". I do think everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I can't stand people who are so judgemental (and not only concerning this subject).

Oh well.... have a nice day! (And to you too "Scarlett") :)

Just remember the old joke....

Skinny girls suck.
(But fat girls swallow)

I can't stand skinny girls, all hips and elbows and shit. Gimmie a little padding please.

One of my favourite sig lines.

"If you want a women with big tits you better be prepared for some hips and ass" :catroar:

How much padding do you need? Do you really want your girlfriend to have enough rolls to be able to open her own bakery?

Too skinny = ick

Too fat = ick ick

No, I find both morbidly obeese and twiggy skinny equally unattractive.

PrivateLabel - NADS is great stuff! so is Veet, and both are safe for the bikini area. Veet makes a "bikini kit", but they aren't always on the shelves.

No one mentioned it, but try stretching for 15 or 20 minutes before a shower or planned shave too.

Right on. This culture's beauty standards are all out of whack if super-thin and hairless are the order of the day.

I've got a little Buddha belly and I don't shave yet my sex life is exciting and satisfying. Go figure.

Once you get it done/trimmed the first time, I'd recommend getting a Seiko CleanCut electric razor.

It shaves very very smooth - as smooth as any non-electric razors I've used. No razor bumps, ingrown hairs, or chemicals (non-talc talcum powder is needed though).

A google search for "Seiko CleanCut" should track it down and tell you more.

It is specifically targeted at strippers and genital shaving.

Good luck and keep on feeling sexy!
