I feel like I should know this, but....
How can I "subscribe" to a specific thread without getting an e-mail every time someone creates a new post? I would like to be able to go into my Control Panel and browse the list of my susbscribed threads, but I don't like getting all the e-mails for new posts.

Thanks to anyone that can help!

Ok go to contole panel and hit edit options... then look for -

Use 'Email Notification' by default?

and change it from yes to no...

if you read what it is it says - "Using this option emails you whenever someone replies to a thread that you have participated in."

it is by deafault yes but change it to no and you should stop getting them...

Hope that works and helps :)

Thank you Nemasis....
I did try this a while ago, and it worked in that I stopped getting e-mails, but now I don't know how to just subscribe to a thread so that it shows in my control panel in a list, but doesn't send me e-mails.

It's possible that I am looking for something that Lit doesn't do, but I was just wondering if it was possible.

Thank you!

Frustrating

Actually, I tried the same thing ... selected to NOT receive e-mails when I post to a thread, but I still get them!!
Very frustrating.
But to your answer, at the bottom of the thread, at the right of the rectangular box, there is a link to subscribe to this thread which I click when I want to see in my Users CP when a new post has happened.

Now how to really stop those e-mails clogging up my in-box?

You can't.

Subscribing to a thread is a request to be notified by e-mail when there is activity on that thread. The only way to stop the e-mails is to unsubsribe from the thread.

If you want to track a thread manually, create a "Lit threads" folder in your favorites and add the URL for the "go to first new post" button to that folder for each thread you want to track (or the URL of the thread-starter.)

As an Alternative, you can set up a "mail rule" in your e-mail program to check for the standardized title of a subscription notice and delete it as soon as it's received or move it to a separate inbox/folder for subscription notices.

Thanks everyone - I had a feeling I was trying to do something that wasn't possible. I will try some of your ideas as a workaround - thank you!

Help

I am sure this is a stupid question, but here goes. Could someone please tell me how to quote part of a post in my reply so that I can reply to it? I see the quote button, but don't know how to use it. This seriously inhibits my respose effectiveness.

I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can help :rose:

Well you don't have to be eternally grateful but you hit that quote button of the post you'd like to respond to - then you will have that included in your reply!!

I hit the quote button to respond to this post - give it a shot!

You're welcome - we were all new at sometime - most everyone is very helpful. Feel free to ask away!

A different question.

Another question - how do you attach a picture and have it show up as a picture rather than the link to the jpg file that someone has to click on to open?

If you mean your own pics then you can't... you have to have an e-mail address for them... (Well I think you can't anyway)

When writing a reply look up from the test box to the tool bar just above it and place your curser over the letters IMG if you click that then you get another box which you write the address of the pic in then hit ok...

When you submit reply your pic will show up but if its one of your own then you have to just attach it.

this dummy needs to know what the wee colored squares with letters inclosed indicate. can any one help??
