  • A year of being shut in away from others
  • A contagious, dangerous disease still out there
  • A population that's at peak political and social-issue polarization

...yeah. Back out in public, and it's crystal clear that all this shit has taken its toll. If someone isn't angry or edgy, they're often this sort of hyper-happy / needy that comes off as awkward. And there's an undercurrent of dread. "Normal" conversations are a bit of a challenge right now; everyone seems brittle.

What's it like where you are?

It's fairly back to normal here in SoCal for now. I was at the grocery store yesterday and the workers are no longer required to wear masks if fully vaccinated. I saw a clerk wearing 2 masks and a protective face shield.

My only real concern is getting it from a Trumplitard and passing it to others.

I live in one of the highest income predominantly white municipalities in Canada, so it’s been effectively covid-free in my part of the community since the outset.

But once outside my entitled zone, yeah, what you said.

The stupidly happy ones are good for a smile…the random anger is what puzzles me.

One day in traffic in the ragtop i got the finger 3 times, minutes apart.

It was like the GB Drive-In.

Like the rest of the US, on average, the virus infections are increasing at a rate that's greater than the rate 9 months ago. Basically, it's shit out there if you're going to indoor events, IMO. Our new mayor has called the vaccines "Experimental", while his newly appointed health guy tells people to get vaccinated. Our governor, who was vaccinated in secret, says getting vaccinated is a personal issue, much like driving safely or wearing safety glasses. Yet, Don Young says, "I want to speak to you today about COVID-19 vaccines. I got vaccinated, & I'm urging you to do the same. I did it to stay healthy & so that my family, friends, & staff are protected. These vaccines are safe, effective, & free." One doesn't get much more Republican than Don Young.

Since March 2020, I have been to one eat-in restaurant a month and a half ago when the numbers were way down. Even then, I chose a table that was remote from other people by over 2m. The staff was masked.

I have a ticket to the beer fest at the end of August. It's outdoors. I'll make a decision to go the day before.

I'm pretty cool with outdoor stuff right now, but that could change.

The people I've recently seen (that I haven't seen since March 2020) are generally pretty happy to see others and catch up. Then, there are the few anti-mask/vax folks that just seem to be vehement. I'm happy to just keep to myself for the most part.

The last sentence of thors post probably resonates with professionals over 50 generally.

As an extroverted loner, I’ve been loving the idiot buffer the disease has created.

some folks coming over from Yorkshire on 14th Aug, outdoor social gathering but air might be a bit smokey due to the location, masks will probably be needed. fair bit of community singing, and possible some equestrian displays (yet to be confirmed depending on venues budget) should be well attended.:D

I’m vaccinated but I may start wearing my mask again to grocery shop.

Outdoor events are starting up but COVID cases are on the uprise again. Just so sad.

We never dropped the mask mandate, so masked and sanitizing as usual.

Not doing a damn thing different than last summer, with the exception of a gathering, within our protocol. That was last weekend.

Now, back to usual distancing.

So you haven't entered the "post" era yet at all. I keep forgetting some folks are still at that stage.

After i was vaccinated, Windows 10 started running really well on my laptops, with a much stronger wireless signal.

I started to go back to the grocery store, but with the uptick, I send them a list and they bring the stuff out to my car. I'm not much of a shopper, anyhow. I do miss going into the Costco wine section.

i don't people anymore

i don't trust that they actually got the vaccine since ya know, we went with the honor system about masks

It's not hard to figure out if someone's been vaccinated. Just ask them who won the election.

I don't go to bars, parties or meet-ups so not sure how they are doing. I assume they're fine. I get my ass on tinder like any other self respecting middle aged pervert.

I am vaccinated but we still do not go to sit down restaurants, bars or public gatherings. We do some shopping and still wear a mask. We get with friends that we trust in small groups. I am thinking that this is not going to go away any time soon and BC may take on a new meaning.

Dunno. I stopped associating with people many years ago.

Evil demons all.

Here in Texas everything is normal, has been through most of the "Pandemic". Schools will be opening on time, they were already open back in the spring. And all business are now open.

The only places requiring a mask are Hospitals and Doctors offices. Other than then, I never ware one. They're useless anyway, it says do right on the box.

“Texas has seen nearly 9,000 COVID-19 deaths since February. All but 43 were unvaccinated people.

Preliminary data shows 99.5% of COVID-related deaths in Texas were among unvaccinated people, according to the Department of State Health Services.”

TexAss has avowed seditionists for Governor, Lt Governor and AG.

Nuff said?
