Band Camp

Austynn

"Not today Jack!!" she yelled from the shore, watching them naked and swimming in the lake.

Sassy

Throwing my head back and laughing,

"Coward, scared of a little cold water?"

Austynn

Although she wasn't going in the water right that second, she did however realize it was hot today. So she pulled off her green form fitting t-shirt and tucked it into the back of her pants. She now stood in a sheer green bra just dark enough to cover up anything that shouldnt be seen in the light of polite day, and her cammos.

"Uhmm-hmm-hmm. Could I get some?!" this smart alec remark came from behind Austynn and when she turned around it was that "tall drink of water" named Leon.

I hop out of the lake coming up behind Austynn and grabs her dragging her forcibly into the water stripping her naked underwater, his naked form pressed to hers as he kisses her remembering the past, the way they used to hop into each others bunks during the colder nights and warm each other up by kissing and holding each other close. Those rememberances got him through the rough nights and the lonley times as he looked back and noticed how sexual things could have gotten between them and how he wished they had.

Austynn

Austynn screamed and fought with him and gasped as he tossed her in the water. She wasnt quite ready when he dunked her and she choked on the water. Realizing his mistake he immediately pulled her up, she was gasping.

"Austynn! hey are you ok? Honey I'm sorry." he held her up and brushed her spiralled wet hair back from her face.

She pushed at him angrily. "Are you nuts! You could've killed me." She swam away from him a few feet.

He was sorry, he hadn't meant to hurt her he just wanted to get to know her again. They used to be able to play that way when they were younger.

Austynn finally caught her breath, swam toward shore and gathered her clothing that had lapped up on the shore. Completely naked she strode across the lake shore and back toward the cabin, passing Leon and several other campers who simply gawked at this brown skinned goddess who seemed to look like a picture straight out of Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Edition.

Sassy

With a heavy sigh I climb from the lake and follow after her, collecting my clothing but not bothering to dress either. Since i was out here on my own a lot, running around naked was kind of a habit for me. I knew he ment no harm, but men could be a little impetious at times.

Following her back to the cabin she had stored her gear in, i asked,

"You ok Babe?"

I hop out of the water and run after Austynn, finally catching her I stop her Austynn 'I'm really sorry I just wanted to hold you close to me again...I missed you after all these years I dreamnt of you every night while I was in the Marines, wishing you were by my side and in my arms every night kissing and feeling your body pressed to mine.' I draw her face upwards as my lips find hers a deep and gentle kiss, my arms wrapped around her.

I was innocently unloading my stuff from my car, when one of the ladies came walking by, completely naked, and soaking wet. I couldn't believe my eyes, and I had to do a double take to be sure I really saw her. Sure enough, there she went followed by the Camp owner, Sassy, who was also naked. I was in disbelief, and I shyly looked away.

I noticed some of the guys down at the lake, and I called out "Hey, where am I supposed to bunk?"

"Anywhere you like!" they hollered in unison.
I made my way a bit up the path toward the cabins.
I entered the first one along the way, and another young lady, and a man where hanging out inside.

"I hope I am not intruding!" I proclaimed.
"No not at all. We were just catching up." said the woman.
"Would either of you mind me bunking in here with you?" I asked.
"No, just throw your stuff over there and grab a cot. Dinner is at seven, just so you know!" the guy said.

I started to feel more comfortable now. I introuduced myself to them, and they in return. I told them I would see them at dinner, and that I desperatly needed a nice nature hike. I put on my hiking boots, and took off out the door, with a smile.

While I walked up the path, I thought about how sexy everyone here was. I hoped to make a lot of friends here, and overcome my shyness, while I was here at Band Camp.

Austynn

"Yes I'm fine. It just shook me up a bit. I did not want to go in today." Austynn shook her head annoyed. "Lou never has been able to listen. So impulsive."

"But thats what we love about him." Sassy responded.

"I know. But today it was different. With him I mean. It's been almost 10 years since I've seen him. He's acting like we've never been apart. He just needs to take it easy."

Just then he ran up to her and apologized, confessed how he'd been longing for her and kissed her square on the mouth.

Austynn pushed him off of her once again. "Damnit Lou. Back off. I don't know you anymore. Same face, same eyes, but it's been years. We've both changed. I don't mind being playful, and flirting...thats like old times. But theres alot you dont know. Alot has happened."

Austynn made her declaration and entered the cabin. Sassy followed behind. When Lou tried to follow she stopped him at the door. "Now is not the time, hon. Go get ready for dinner. We'll see you then."

Lou stared at the screen cabin door for a little bit then finally turned around and went back to the cabin they wouldve been sharing. Alone.

Sassy

Sassy sat on the end of a bunk and sighed. She had been there with Austynn through all thse years and knew the hell she had been through.

"Give it time Babe, things will be ok. I'll have a word to him if you like, tell him to back off. Or maybe you should explain it to him yourself. He's a great guy, even if he does act like a rutting bull at times, I am sure he'll understand beter if you tell him."

"Geez, about 3 or 4 years now. Nothing special, just fun and junk."

As bad as my hearing may be my vision is pretty good. Not only had I clocked this girl as being very easy on the eyes but that she looked as though she had just run a marathon, pulling a rickshaw containing a 50 pound bag of rocks. She looked like she was using the bed as a crutch. Not knowing what to say often I decide not to probe and make friendly chatter.

"So, where you from?" I ask. "and what is it that you do there?" I say as I clear the junk off of my bunk

I sighed as I walked into the cabin 'idiot man really stupid.' he mumbled to himself 'dumb idea to come back, should have just sent money and leave it at that.' I picked up my gear and slung my green duffel bagover my shoulder and slowly walked to my Jeep Wrangler, head lowered' swearing at myself for even thinking Austynn would still like me. I toss my bag in the back and walk back into the cabin and write a long note to Austynn apologizing. Then walked back to my car.

Sassy

I found Lou heading to his car, his bags packed and his eyes filled with hurt.

"Running away so soon Lou?" He didn't even look at me when he said.
"I should not have come." I sigh heavily, putting my hand on his shoulder.

"Lou, walk with me for awhile, we should talk." I took his hand and led him along the path that ran down by the lake, finding a log and sitting to look out over the water. "Lou, there is a lot that has changed in all of us over the last ten years, and Austynn is no acception. She has been to hell and back since highschool, but that is somethng i will leave for her to tell you. All i ask is that you wait a little while before you go running of, and see what happens. Ten years can't be recalled in a single heart beat."

I looked into his hurt eyes, hoping he would reconsider and stay. As much as we had always been great friends, i always cared for him a little more than he did for me, but I was never willing to risk out friendship on the chance of anything more. I knew of his fasination for Austynn and i would never get in the way of what made him happy, I just hated to see him sad.

I smile at sassy and hug her 'thanks babe..you know I used to wish your father was my Dad and you were my sister or even more because you were always my best friend and I could tell you anything. You're right it's just that I've been to hell and back and needed to forget what happened and see you and Austynn.'

Sassy

I hugged him back warmly. I suposed a sister was better than nothing.

"I will always be here for you Lou, you know that, and i kow thay you have had a rough time as well, we all have. Lets just take it one step at a time. Come on, lets get dinnger organized. I still have that crazy damn cook Grandad was so fond of, and he still can't cook." we laughed a little headed back to camp, i could tell he was feeling much better.

My hand intertwines with hers 'Listen Sassy Austynn wasn't the only one I thought of...I thought of you too....I used to want to ask you out but Paul was always trying to get you and he beat me up once for being with you. I mean Austynn is a goddess and yeah I love her but I don't know anymore it's like she's the same but not all there....you know what I mean?'

Leslie

"Wow! Three or four years? I should have stopped just wanting to play a long time ago and just done it but 'things' kept getting in my way."

"One of those things being my job. I work in a modeling agency and no, not as one of the models, I'm the person they call when they want a model. I send them a portfolio of all the models I think fit their profile and then I discuss the terms with them. A business woman all the way." I laughed. Truth was, I had wanted to be one of the models when I was younger but mother freaked and wouldnt let me hear the end of the lectures until I changed my mind. She said that models only have a short career and pointed out all of the horror stories until I threw up my hands and gave in. I did the next best thing and got as close to my dream job as I could.

Austynn

Austynn took a long warm shower in Sassy's cabin. And then borrowed an ankle length sundress that changed colors from pale yellow at the top to a glorious bright sunflowr yellow at the bottom. Austynn always loved fabrics that felt like silk against her skin and flowed just as easily when she walked. She grabbed a pair of yellow thong sandals and left her hair unbound. Looking herself over in the mirror she laughed at how Sassy always described her hair as being the same as 'Scary Spice' from the spice girls. But most tended to love her wild curly tendrils...Lou...Lou had always loved her hair even when they were younger....

It was then that she decided it was time to talk to Lou. Checking the clock she saw that it was approximatley 7:40..dinner was near to being over. So stepping out into the light of the setting sun she walked briskly toward the mess hall.

When she entered, she saw quite a few people had arrived and they were scattered across several tables. Alone at one table sat Sassy and Lou, talking. Sassy couldn't see me approaching but when I got to the table Lou stood and raised his tray as if he meant to leave. I slid in next to him and wrapped my arm through his...urging him to sit back down. Unsure of what was happening he sat down stiffly. I smiled at Sassy and leaned my head down onto his shoulder, hugging his arm. My hair covered my face like a curtain but he could hear what i was saying to him. "Can we go talk....when you are done?" I was suddenly shy.

Encouraged, he looked down at me. "Wanna take the boat out...like old times?"

I nodded. That would be perfect out on that lake. There would be silence and I would be able to say what I needed to say and cry if i needed to cry and he couldnt abandon me if he wanted. Lou had been famous for running away from problems. But i didnt think i could bear it if he ran from me this time. So a boat in the middle of a lake would be just fine.

I take Austynn's hand as we head down to the lake and I help her into the boat, now wearing a sleeveless tee my left is covered in scars while the right has a tribal tattoo that starts on my right wrist and ends at the base of my neck on the right side. I look to Austynn 'so what did you want to talk about?' Our boat floating in the middle of the lake.

Austynn

She had tried to pretend she hadn't heard him say "she wasnt all there" as they walked down to the docks. She also tried to pretend that she hadn't noticed how easily the tides could change in him. She saw the looks he'd been giving Sassy just before she'd walked up. The same looks he used to give her.

Once out in the middle of the lake he'd sat the oars down and said, "So what'd you want to talk to me about?"

Austynn laid down in the middle of the oversized canoe her feet passing through his as he sat facing her on the padded board seat. She stared up at the rising moon.

Not looking at him made it easier. "Two and a half years ago, I was working at a group home for severely emotionally disturbed teens. One night one of the more aggressive ones talked two of the mentally slower children into helping him escape. I happened to be on watch that night and I caught them. When i confronted them the one kid got angry and attacked me, him i probably could've taken, but the other two decided they should help him." I wrapped my arms across my middle, consoling myself.

"At first they were only holding me down while he beat me...but suddenly there was this different look in his eyes. Like he'd just realized he had an opportunity. He told the other two boys to hold me down tight and he began pulling my pants down. He ripped my panties and then...and then he..."

"He didn't!" the growl came so softly from Lou I almost didn't hear it. "Tell me he didn't." he spoke loud enough that i met his eyes.

There was a disbelief in his eyes but there was something else.

"I can't tell you that." a silent tear slipped down my cheek. It was hard telling him this. I knew he was gonna run. "He raped me and then he goaded the others to do the same. He nearly threatened to kill them if they didnt."

Taking a deep breath to clear up her quivering voice she spoke again. "I never thought I'd feel again. I died inside. I had no one then, except Sassy. She begged me to let her tell you even then but I didn't think I could deal with the look on your face." I looked at him. "The one that is even now on your face. Thats what I've been afraid of all these years.

Leon Jackson

Feeling kinda like the odd man out I sigh a little. I notice all the campers laughing and catching up on old times. I went to the same high school as much of them, but I nver went to the band camp. My family was too poor to send me. I laughed inspite of myself. I knew that they always had fun here. I was a nerd in high school, so I wasnt suprised that none of them remembered me. I laughed out loud inspite of myself. I found a cabin at the end of camp and selected a bed along the far wall.
On my trip back to my truck I noticed Austyn run by and then another girl streeked by me completly naked and soaked.
"What a camp" I say outloud smiling. I grab my trumpit and my keyboard and head back to the cabim. Dinner wasnt till seven, so I had some time to get settled. I put the keyboard on the top bunk then I carefully removed my trumpet. I had a habbit of playing In the Mood" in the middle of band during the year. I had been kicked out of class on multiple occasions. I had even gotten kicked out of school when I played Matalicas Orion over the sound system.
I went out of the cabin laughing. When I got controle of myself I began to play a jazzy song on my trumpet, then I played "In the Mood". I walked through the camp playing the jazzy tune. When I got to the front of camp I played it again, inviting anybody to join.

I had circled the lake quite quickly, because I was a power walker, to keep fit, while living in the city. Coming up the last leg of the trail I heard a sweetly familiar tune being played on a horn. It was quite a sight to see the tall, dark and very handsome man who was playing as he strode through camp. As I approched him, I smiled as wide as possible, to let him know I liked his playing without interupting him. When our eyes met, as I began to pass by, I felt a strong attraction to him. I wondered if he felt the same but, figured that since I was no vixen like the wet, naked lady earlier, that he was probably just looking at me, wondering what instruments I played. I wanted desperately to say hi, and introduce myself, but I got choked up and couldn't say anything. I just kept walking, and took one glance back to find him loosing sight of his tune, and gaining sight of my posterior.

I close my eyes and I feel my anger building. I lean back and then lean forward and draw Austynn to me and hug her tight 'God I'm so sorry I should have been there for you and protected you. I know I've run away from problems before but I'm through running Austynn I love you...I've always loved you and I'm not gonna leave any more. Do you know why I left and joined the military?'

I looked up and Austynn was shaking her head 'alot of people wondered why Lou'

I sigh this was some bad memories being dredged up. 'Remember the night John Holt found you and I in bed together and he went off on me and nearly beat me to death?'

Austynn nodded tears slipping down her cheeks as he held her in his arms staring up at the moon, both of them laying side by side in the bottom of the boat. 'I woke up in the hospital 2 days later and knew what happened and I knew if I stuck around in the shape I was I'd be dead so I left the hospital and joined the Marine's forging my dad's signature to get in. I worked out night and day with only one thought on my mind....you Austynn I wanted to be able to protect myself and you from harm...I love you Austynn.'

'What about Sassy?'

I shake my head 'Sassy's like my sister, yeah I love her but not how I love you Austynn.'

Sassy

Sassy leaned against the railing of her cabin porch and look out over the lake. The moon sparkeled on the water, and night birds called out from the shadows. Around the camp some of the campes played and jamed together and it all seemed to blend into the harmony of the place.

With Lou and Austynn out on th lake, her heat was bittersweet. she was happy for them, happy Austynn could let a man within 10 feet of her again, but she felt a deed lonlyness within herself. The kind of lonely you feel in a crowded room. With a sigh, she returned to the books, trying to make sense of her grandfathers ledgers.

Sassy could not understand how her grandfather could have come to be so far behind on his taxes. She knew he had a pet hate for the IRS, but this was too much. He owned everything, the camp, the land, and everything on it, by rights, he should have been swimming in money from what the camp had earned over the last thirty years, but even with the camp fully booked this year, there was a shortfall. She shighed, who was she kidding, it was more like a skydive than a shortfall. What had he done with all the money? He didn't drink, gambel, of buy things he didn't need. He was always a great buisness man. Maybe he stuffed it in the matress.

She paused for a moment, looking at her Grandfathers old bed, shaking her head, naaaaa, surely not. Turning back to the books, she dropped her head to the table in dispare. With a heavy sigh, she picked up her flute and went back to the porch, closing her eyes and playing a malody she'd composed in her mind, her lond hair drifting in the cool breeze that swept up from the lake, hoping the answers to all of her prayers would find her soon.

Right at that time Sassy recieved a phone call
'Hello?'

'yes is this Sassy Morgan?'

yes it is'

'Hello this is Mr. Williams attorney, he wanted to let you know his father's estate is to be split between you and himself...you stand to recieve $3 million though Mr. Williams knew you wouldn't accept it we have placed it in a account only able to be for you and you alone...you must show your driver's license at the bank.'
