I am currently planning to make special cupcakes for Halloween. I want to be able to turn the batter using food coloring but it has turned it pink. The cupcakes are for a party at my younger brothers' school. Any help would be good.

What color do you want the batter to be?

If you're looking for red, you just have to use lots of red. Many years ago, when lots of black and red were used it made the frosting taste bitter. I think they've improved the taste, but I'm not sure as I've not frosted anything using a lot.

Add red, mix, add more until desired color. If you batter is yellow this will make it harder to turn red. It may be more orange if it's yellow batter.

Forget food coloring. You'll use too much and it'll never look or taste right.

Beet juice. It sounds odd, but the flavor is mild enough not to be notice. And if you've ever spilled a can of beets, you'll know that stuff STAINS.

Red food coloring is tough. You have to use quite a bit of it and it ends up looking more brown than red, not to mention, that much food coloring can alter the taste of the batter. Try Red Velvet cake batter. If you don't want the chocolate flavor, use white cake, remove a quarter cup at a time and replace with a quarter cup of red velvet until you gave the desired red color.

If you use Gel food colouring, not traditional liquid food colouring you will get much better colours easily.

I was going to say something similar--you can also buy paste food coloring which makes you use a whole lot less, has less flavor to it, and doesn't mess with the consistency of your cupcakes the way too much liquid does.

I am a pastry chef and to get a bright red color, tint it orange first, and then add red. You won't use as much red-color, so there won't be that off taste, and it will be quicker.

I need someone in America to post me something called "peanut butter baking chips" so I can make this cheesecake. I don't even know what these things are. We don't have them here.

Nuts.com sells what you're looking for.

I didn't dig deeply enough to see whether they ship to Australia.

I'm pretty sure that you can get Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or something similar; chocolate coated peanut butter filling in one shape or another.

Chopping one of those products into chocolate-chip sized pieces will give you a suitable substitute.

it might be a lot of work to get chips that taste like fake peanut butter..
I've made something similar with a thin peanut butter buttercream frosting topped with a very (very) thin layer of melted dark chocolate

hope it's tasty!
