I was with some old friends tonight.I've been awake since early this morning.Anway
we took some photographs at night, when I was really tired and theres all these bags underneath my
eyes.

I was just wondering ,not that I would ever bother trying it,but is it true
that tea bags or potatoe skins reduce these bags?
Does anybody know anything about this?
Perhaps I'm just paranoid.
I was just wondering.
Thanks

There are a lot of tricks on getting rid of bags under the eyes... potato skins, tea bags (soaked and cooled) and cucumbers to reduce the swelling. Lay it on for ten minutes, and the bags should go down, making you look less tired. Also, drink a lot of water.

From what I understand, the cucumbers, potato skins and tea bags constrict the expanded vessels which cause the swelling in the first place, but I have to check. Personally, I have used both tea bags and cucumbers (I knew there was a use for them). Although it didn't magically make the bags disappear, it did make me look less monstrous. Add a little eye make-up, I looked almost decent. :D

The best cure is a good night's sleep! LOL! :D

This is true. Many creams claim to reduce dark rings...but many are just skin "whiteners" and can irritate your eyes.
My suggestion is just to get a good cream concealer - in a slightly lighter shade than you'd normally wear. Use it sparingly and no one will even notice!

actually, another "cure" for bags under the eyes is hemorroid cream, such as Preparation H. Make sure you don't get it IN your eyes. Just dab a little on the baggy area, it'll make the tissue shrink. Oh, and make sure you use a fresh clean tube of the stuff. You wouldn't want anything contaminated with anal secretions near your eyes.

my question concernin this thread is - i have natural dark rings around my eyes... genetic i guess because my sister and my grandma both have the same thing. I cake make up on to make it less noticable but was wondering if theres something i could do to make it less obvious that i have a lb of make up on. Even if i get 10 hours of precious beauty sleep - my eyes are dark and always have 'bags' under my eyes. I've tried cucumbers and tea bags and neither really made any difference even with doing it every day <did it every day for a month. and no result that made any kind of difference. I was just wondering if theres anything short of surgery to help with this?

For the dark circles, you can try the lavender colored cover stick, then go over with with your regular concealer. The purple color will "neutralise" any yellow tones in the dark circles.

Dark circles are generally bruising under the skin, so if you have sinus troubles, allergies, or lack of sleep, it will worsen those dark circles.

When you shop for the lavender colored cover sticks, you'll notice green ones also. The green cover sticks are for red areas, such as blemishes.

Your regular concealer will cover the others.

I second the lavender stick... the cucumbers, tea bags etc are for bags under your eyes, which are often dark. While they help to reduce the swelling, they often times do nothing for the circles. Also, you may wish to go to the cosmetics counter to ask about under eye concealer. There are some which are more 'red' than regular concealers, to neutralise the dark circles.

Oh, but I wish I could give you advice. I have always had "bags" under my eyes. More correctly, it's that they're not puffy enough! I had my eyes swell a bit once and they went away... but my skin under my eyes is very, very thin so I perpetually have dark under my eyes. Concealer doesn't work... tea bags haven't worked... I haven't tried regularly with those sort of things, though. Sleep doesn't help. I can sleep 3 hours, or 9 hours or 12 hours and my eyes look the same. Occasionally it'll get worse.

I don't do eye makeup, though. Thanks to the skin under my eyes, it always looks reallllllllly bad. Depressing, kinda, but I got over it.

I'd just love to make them less dark. Well, no, I'd like to deal with the circles... it's the circles I can't hide with makeup... not that I use makeup anyway. ><

If your bags are yellowish, then the lavender will work best... but if your circles are dark - like purplish, then using yellow concealer will be best. It's all in using the opposite colour in the spectrum. Yellows/blues, reds/greens.

The teabags and cucumbers are better for puffiness than for lightening the colour of the bags. Wasn't there a movie where in one scene, someone took a bite out of the cuke slices so that the entire eye wasn't covered? Anyway, ever since I saw that, that's how I do it, lol... unless I've been crying, in which case the whole eye gets it.

But it's all good advice (I've been a practitioner of some of these methods since I was a teen, sigh......and wasted more money than I care to think of on so-called 'miracle creams'!)

Make sure you use a good foundation before you apply concealer so the color
doesn't creep into the fine little lines surrounding the eyes.

And another quick tip to reduce swelling: Put two tea spoons in the fridge for
a couple minutes and then hold them to your eyes. Faster and cheaper than
cucumbers or tea bags.

The spoons are really good advice!

(When I was a teen, my best friend always had hickeys, and we'd always use frozen spoons and lightly rub the bruising away... it might have worked, it might not have lol, but it made her feel better)

Puffy eyes primarily stem from fluid retention, they're temporary. Bags under the eyes develop over the years, as fat accumulates in the eye area.

Not everyone develops baggy eyes. But unfortunately, once bags form, there's nothing you can do to reduce them.

Tea bags work because they contain a natural anti-inflammatory(tannin I think its called). I've also used a bowl of ice water(just dunk your face in for 5-10 secs) to good effect. Cucumbers work simply because they're already mostly water, your better off using a cold pack, though protect your skin with a paper towel or something so you don't freeze burn your skin.

I have given up smoking which has made my dark cycles not as dark. A diet high in sodium can contribute to dark cycles, it is also helpful to use creams that thicken the skin around the eye area to help dark cycles (copper peptides etc). Making sure you get the proper amount of sleep is important.

These tips above are great!

Baggy eyes in the morning can also be helped by sleeping in a more upright position. Invest in a few more pillows (satin pillowcases to prevent breakouts and hair breakage!!) and you should notice an improvement right away.

Beauty questions are quite welcome in my inbox. I spent years working as a model and actress, and learned a LOT in the industry. So if anyone out there needs some help, my inbox is always open.

The reason cucumbers and cold teabags work: they're cold (restricts capiliaries in the region) and damp (bringing moisture back to the area).

I prefer cold tea bags because they mold to your eyes a bit better.

But again, nothing will replace a good night sleep and not being a smoker. ;-)
