At least IR gave people the click option. Who is to say your "experiment" wouldn't have hurt someone's computer? And who is to say next time it won't.

Are you sure viruses can't be transmitted like this?

I"m positive a virus cannot be spread like that.

An animated gif cannot act as a trojan horse or a virus..

seizing control of someone's browser and manipulating the screen without them doing anything IS NOT FUNNY

I guess the acronym for Best yaars forever is lost on some people.

I thought it was short for boyfriend

The difference between Spin and IR is that anyone who's been here even the short amount of time that I have knows that Spin isn't malicious.

Get Heteric or someone with coding knowledge to check this out. It does scare me and should scare you.
It is Heretic.

There used to be an unrelated security problem with vBulletin some time ago, but it is no longer present, so I doubt this could be a problem. I wasn't around to see what happened (I was working on my websites rather than screwing around here), so I don't know what happened, but if Spin wants to PM or email me with an explanation I will examine what he did and give my opinion on whether it could cause problems.

Okay, SPin told me what he did and that was fairly hamrless - even if it annoyed some people. I played around with my sigline and while I could do some interesting things, I didn't manage to do anything harmful.

If you are totally paranoid, just turn the display of siglines off - once you've seen it you've seen it *shrugs*

Okay, I played around some more with my sigline. It took me a few minutes because I just don't think in a malicious manner like some people. I could actually get it to do some annoying but not harmful things. I doubt you could easily get something like this to download a virus - just be really annoying. I did it in such a way that you were highly unlikely to notice or encounter it, and I only had it up for a few seconds to test it then took it down. Further testing I did on my own website to see just what I could do.

Anyway, here is what I recommend:

1) You get a browser that allows you to turn off popup windows - then set that option to disallow popups.

2) If you are paranoid turn off siglines - you can only do this stuff in siglines.

3) If you are truly paranoid, then turn off ********** as what I did can be done on any website - period.

Don't bother contacting me to ask me what I did or how to do it. The only persons I will tell are Laurel or Manu if they want to know. I would suggest that would be hackers not try to do these things as I imagine it would be a good and very fast way to get banned from Lit.
