The picture size limits are smaller than they are for attaching a picture. Avatars must be no bigger than 150x150 pixels and 20Kb (20480 bytes)

The generic error message for rejecting an avatar could use some improvement -- it doesn't say it's rejecting the picture because it's too big, it just says it's not in the proper format.

Not working

Ok, it's under 20K and still not working, also I can't get it to show up in aything other than bmp ............... what do I do now?

Trust Harold

Check the dimensions, he's absolutely correct (naturally.) Make certain it's not more than 150 pixels in either dimension. If all else fails, pick another and start over.

Attach the picture to a post and someone (me if I see it first) will convert it to JPG or GIF format and make sure it meets the size requirement.

(What image processing software are you using?)

what a guy!

If I notice I'll give it a once over - I've got a lot that will keep me out in the real world for the next 12 hours, but a certain amount of talent with image processing software.

Someone made it for me

Hey thanks you guys, I will try to post it on this one here......
Sienna made it for me and I saved it to my computer but it saved only as a bmp.........

ARGGGGGGGG

Look at that!!!!!!1
I can't even get the stupid thing to show up on here!!!!!!!!!!!! ^&*^&*#E^@$%W$ this sucks so much crap!!!!!!!

Steady, scuba old man...

The .bmp format is relatively huge by definition, and for reasons I've not yet uncovered many (perhaps all) versions of Netscape running in a Windows environment do not display it. Meantime, this provides us a good starting point.

Let me see what I can do here, I have to jump over to IE a moment to see what's there in the first place.

after further review

I don't think you're uploading quite right, unless Harold happens along and can make something useful out of that. However, since somebody made it for you that means they probably have a copy still, so tell me: did Sienna mail it to you or post it somewhere on the board? Either way it's too soon to give up hope.

Still hve it

Yes,
Seh did e-mail it to me and I still have it on e-mail.

Here, I will try to show it by putting in the page addy but the pic she sent was to big.........like 43k or something.

Here goes

Bitmap format pictures will almost always show as a download link instead of displaying the image.

All I really need to do was select "Save As" on the file menu of Paintshop Pro and choose JPeG format to convvert the picture to that format.

To save this picture to your harddrive, right click and choose "save picture as" and then navigate to your Mydocuments directory (or any other directory you can easily remember and find again.)

OH THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much Harold and LuckyKnight!

You guys have no idea how much I appreciate it!

If you were girls....or I was a girl......I would kiss ya both but we are guys so ...........settle for a handshake???? LOL

thnks guys!

handhake is more than sufficient, but Harold gets the credit

I thought to try saving it as a gif since it suggested that when I did a save-as, but not a jpg. duh.

From your photo-processing program you can save as a GIF, but not when downloading it from the attach function. I had to "save picture as" in BMP format and then open it with Paint Shop Pro (or irFanview, Adobe PhotoShop, or Adobe Photodelexe) and then resize from the 127 pixels tall to 150 pixels tall before choosing "Save As" JPeG.

At that point I could have saved as GIF but JPeG allows for more than 256 colors and is a bit smaller on the disk.
