Good flight home, but pretty shattered still, had to get back to work on Monday with 3 weeks to catch up.
Still it was worth it to be back here, as an expatriate pom I agree with most that the UK is a great place to visit but you wouldn"t want to live there.

The price of a getaway, huh? Catch-up on the return. Hope you get lots of rest to reset the body clock.

Fortunately no riots in my area, out in the suburbs close to Heathrow.
Glad they are over though. Could have been a whole lot worse.

mmmm. Talk about a cluster of humankinds worst behaviour! No doubt some stupid movie will go into production in the next 6 months glorifying some badly behaved youth group.

It sparked some heated debates around dinner tables here. Especially about the parents who spotted their daughter behaving badly.

Would you have noticed any extra noise out near Heathrow?????

Melbourne started off well, mild morning but then rain and back to wintry conditions, no change from London last week.

How kind of Melbourne to ease you back into the weather at home by putting on some Pommy weather for you.

mmmm. Talk about a cluster of humankinds worst behaviour! No doubt some stupid movie will go into production in the next 6 months glorifying some badly behaved youth group.

It sparked some heated debates around dinner tables here. Especially about the parents who spotted their daughter behaving badly.

Not really, wasn' a pleasure trip this one. Didn't get out much only shopping at Tesco anf like places.
Aged mother not coping well so mercy dash to organise Home Care. Talk about bureaucracy gone mad, can't do anything while you there and won't do anything when you are.
All fixed now, didn"t have to leave her in a basket on the steps but almost.

Rioters getting their just desserts though, judiciary filling up the gaols, no slaps on wrists, real prison terms. Let us hope this gets the message across.

Was just reading news article about people decrying the severity of the sentences. Can understand point about the relative worth but the psychology of mob rule puts the offences in another catagory altogether.

A very sore point with me with kids running amok most of them wearing expensive footwear & clothing but bet they don't work.

Time for international WORK FOR THE DOLE TIME !!!!!! And I mean real work not just putting on a vest & picking up some litter with a special tool so they don't have to bend or touch anything I mean real work like road repairs, construction & maintenance on scolls, hospitals, aged care homes & public housing & if they don't work no dole, if they take a day off no money for that day off unless a doctors certificate, way to many taking a free ride on the system. The army is another alternative to teach some discipline & respect which is sadly lacking in so many of the young.

My daughter is a mum of 2 small kids who get off benifits & managed to become a qualified nurse.

I thought it was nice of the mobs to freely show themselves to all the media cameras to make it easy to identify them, no real brains amongst them.

The logistics are horrendous, though. Only the services have the sort of infrastructure in place to deal with the type of supervision required. Not just for behaviour, but safety.

Have been watching my niece trying to get a job in Sydney. She's finished yr 12 last year and has been up and down from her home on sth coast to Syd at least weekly since then. They all want experience. How's she gonna get that? She works as a casual in her home town. She's about to do 'work experience' for one lot in order to compete for a traineeship there. Sounds suss to me.

My solution was very simple, if they banned the hoody then no-one would have been game to show up.
Don't forget it takes brains to think that the images taken might be viewed at a later date by the constabulary.
The rioters/looters didn't expect the backlash from the populace either, ordinary people in the street dobbed them in to the police, taken them to the suspected looters front door.

I've never understood how people can get so overwrought about Burqas when there are people (not just youngsters) hiding behind hoodies in crimes all the time.

Don't get me wrong the Burqa laws are welcome but hoodies need attention, as well.

I'm watching a bludger-in-training atm. Same age as my daughter. Doesn't go to school. Supposed to be living with Dad but lobs at Mums to clean out her food, including the toddlers food. Receives his payments from DSS but pays no board to either parent and expects the best of everything.

He was brought up to fail. His mother once told me she couldn't be as strict as me. He was never expected to behave in a responsible way. Parents getting it all back now, but he'll break out soon and someone in town will bear the results.
