Actually it depends on the track.

there is no set standard world wide for what direction to go.

for example, Albert Park where the Melb. Grand Prix is held, runs clockwise, however Eastern Creek in Sydney where the 500cc bike GP used to run was anti-clockwise.

Silverstone in the UK is clockwise, but Suzuka in Japan is anti-clockwise.
