Aussies! Check in here!

I was actually shocked...no athletes were gunned down, or anything like that. Given that there were gun battles shortly before the Olympics, the authorities have either done a very good protection effort or just been incredibly lucky.

I think it was a mixture of both luck and a higher state of security around the venues, not so much around Rio in general. Apparently the beach areas are a dangerous place to be if you're on your own. Never been there so can't really say how dangerous a place it is. I think they also kept a wrap on some of the incidents which may eventually come out as time goes on.

So.... things have been very quiet here lately.
I recently started on new medication, which has me feeling nauseous, no appetite, constant headache and tinnitus. The rheumatologist assures me all this will settle down once I reach the therapeutic level I need....
Only good thing so far has been the weight loss (because of the nausea and loss of appetite) I have lost 7kg in three weeks!
Not the best way to get rid of those last few stubborn kilos.

The kicker? I'll be on this (or similar) for the rest of my life.

Ok, now for some better news.....
Early October, I'll be in Sydney for a few days either side of Bathurst weekend :)
If anyone wants to catch up, let me know via pm ....

Hey WQ,

I can feel your annoyance when the doc says the medications are for the rest of your life. Had that chat with my previous GP so it was a bit of a shock to hear that considering I've never really been to doctors for most of my life, now I'm a regular. Just a pain in the butt when you have to take the medications as well a note from your doc when you travel, feels like I'm back in school.

Not the way you want to be losing weight for sure but on the positives you can still enjoy chocolate and cake :)

Afternoon all,

Well the rain continues here in Melbourne town and apparently its going to get even worse next week so make the most of the weekend.

Well the TV is back to normal. Went to a supermarket last week and the checkout chick was complaining about how the Olympics was dominating the TV. She wanted her regular shows back.

Haven't looked at the Aussie Survivor yet although it was funny that the two people on the first promo's with the big strategies got voted out early. So just watch the next promo and you'll know who gets voted out next.

Seems some local councils in Tassie are going to charge rate payers for the water company to fix its own infrastructure. Since when are the running costs of a business the problem of the customer? Should of budgeted for that in their business plan...oh wait nobody does maintenance anymore ....silly me.

The pictures from the earthquake in Italy look similar to those from Nepal when an earthquake struck there. Can only feel for those people and hope their situation gets back to normal soon. The rescue parties are still finding people alive so that's some good news amongst all that tragedy.

Welcome, the thread tends to get quiet so don't let that put you off posting stuff. One of the few places to find Aussies on Lit. Just leave the beers in the fridge and the Bundy on the counter.

Afternoon all,

Well its hump day and supposedly the end of Winter, well the rain is getting a little warmer. Also the end of the FY reporting period so everyone will be counting up how much their respective super funds lost in the previous FY. And no doubt some of those people are being advised not to retire just yet. Well if they don't retire before 2020 they should be prepared for a downward calculation on their pension.

What a start to the week what with news of Chinese govt hackers, possible sinking of that silly plebiscite, and the pollies back in Canberra.

AFL finals already although not sure what the die-hards are going to do with themselves for a week.

Its seems there is a pot of gold at the end of rainbow in Ireland even if their govt doesn't want it. Imagine what other countries could do with that money.

Afternoon all,

Well its Spring and life is blooming all over. The NFL season starts later this week so it will be early mornings waking up to the alarm clock which doesn't get much use these days.

AFL finals start this week and the Royal Melbourne Show will be on later in the month when the farm comes to the city. It seems these days it's less farm and more commercial. Still the kids get a kick out of it. Ah yes the thrill of show bags and smelling farm animals and trying not to step in the poo. Nothing like a grand parade, gives you time to have rest in between rides and all that walking.

Seems Samsung has added a new feature to its latest mobile phone. Who said mobile phones are useless when going camping. When you can't get a signal at least you can make fire with it and you don't need an app, how clever is that.

Hope your week is going along nicely.

Rain, sun, rain, sun, rain...... Spring has been switched on!
Loving the warmer days, especially as I have had no car for 3 weeks and have to walk everywhere.
I might have to update my profile pic as I have hair again :D

Thank goodness my side effects from new medication have finally begun to settle down! Headaches, tinnitus, nausea, insomnia, the works.
I still have zero appetite and have to force myself to eat, but the resulting weightloss has been welcome!
And the past three days have been pain-free (sort of) so I guess it's finally working.

Roll on October and Bathurst!

Hope you're all having a good weekend :)

Hey WQ,

So are you going to colour your hair since you've got some again?

Good to hear the medication is working.

Afternoon all,

Well the weather has been the talking point for a few days what with all the flooding in a couple of states now. I even got some rain in my letter box, had to dry out the letters, thankfully nothing important. I notice posties rarely put the letters in the postbox these days, the half in half out method seems the go what with them not being able to get close enough since they're on motorbikes these days. God forbid they might have to get off said motorbike.

The multifocal trial is over for me, went with the bifocal option. Been back to the optometrist so much for these specs that the ladies at the shop recognised me. Anyway will see how these new ones go. Did get a refund as well so some more spending money to use.

Apparently I don't have the nbn even though there is box now attached to my house. No way to connect to the box as yet. Perhaps the govt it expecting us to use telepathy to connect to the internet after all WiFi is all the rage these days. Will have to run a fucking séance to make a call. "I'm getting the letter K coming thru...sounds like Kiss My...can't quite make out the last word".

Discovered that dogs don't like hugs. I know...who knew! When they yawn they are stressed and they get bored easily when learning new tricks if the reward is not instant (like training teenagers)....and cats prefer food that smells like dead mouse. Like to see Dine sell that one.

Purchased a new bird deterrent....a reflective paper owl with bells, so far it seems to be working.

Stay dry everyone.

Because I only have a few greys, I will colour it until I get about half grey....
At the moment I am a rich chocolate-brown :)

I was about to call it quits with these meds when the side-effects began settling. Glad I persevered!

LOL @ One Nation senators: not a fucking brain cell between them! And George Christensen ought to resign from the LNP and become a member.

Cringing from their words, still.

Afternoon all,

Well you know its school holidays in Sept, its raining. Expecting the same next week so that should be enough to drive parents nuts. Its also a time to avoid public spaces.

Hard rubbish time in my neighbourhood so lots of visitors curb trawling on the odd chance there is something good to take home and become trash in another place. This is supposed to be illegal but nobody gets caught so the council rules are just lots of posturing, besides who cares where the stuff goes so long as it goes somewhere else. The cycle of life or rather the recycling of life.

I see the Russians and Americans are each other's throats again over the middle east region. Politics once again getting in the way of achieving results. The old siege mentality on show in Syria. Apparently we humans have evolved over the centuries, buts some things just stay the same.

So Angela and Brad have broken up. Guess now Brad gets to wear his own pants again. Obviously that is the news story of the month.

If you're in Melbourne enjoy the rain free day tomorrow, going to get wet again on the weekend. Not good if you're going to the showgrounds. Decided to skip the show this year, still have stuff from last year.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

I'm very happy about the rain. Trimmed back my tree ferns at the start of the week, so the rain is perfect for them.

Someone got arrested a couple of years ago for going through the hard rubbish here in Melbourne. Very annoying that that happened - I want my rubbish to go to a better home.

Though some go through hard rubbish for copper, stripping it from cables and leaving a mess, which is rude.

True, but bombing UN aid wagons is something they should get taken to task over.

I guess it's news to someone. Unless Angelina turns up on my doorstep it's not something that particularly interests me.

I just hope it's fine for Monday, when I'm taking my nephew to the Show.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

You too!

Recycling is very big here. There's one guy I see regularly round here who even gets inside the big skip used for restaurant scraps, after the plastic bottles. As for copper in electrical wiring, often left out for others to collect, at least they take it back to their depots and strip it there. Nothing much is wasted: Styrofoam is piled high on three-wheeler 'utes', along with huge bags of plastic bottles or stacks of cardboard.
Roadside bins are everywhere for designated recyclables. People are often seen reaching in and taking out the plastic. They do seem to make a living that way.

Afternoon all,

Well what about the "weather event" in SA yesterday. The Libs just couldn't resist telling people that renewables was the reason power couldn't be restored. Rather than concentrating on the people impacted by the storms they would rather play politics. Hopefully no lives were at risk given the massive amount of rain and winds going thru SA.

Was rather surprised that the forecasted rain didn't really happen in Melbourne in the last couple of days. Nice warmer sunny days this week. Made you want to get out and about. No doubt the parents were happy they could get the kids out of the house during the school holidays.

Went to renew the driver's license this week and decided to go to the new VicRoads offices in my area. Was prepared for a long wait but surprisingly got served right away, didn't even manage to get to the seats. They even asked if I wanted to smile in my photo. I was out of there in a couple of minutes. When the system works we get surprised thinking that something went wrong. It can't be that easy.

As everyone knows the AFL Grand Final is on Saturday and the local govt has kindly kept the public holiday tomorrow again this year. Why, well most of us are just not sure, perhaps to make up for the fact the Lib govt of the day took away our public holiday for Show Day, thanks Jeff!

Melbourne is set to get some of that weather Adelaide got yesterday however won't be as bad hopefully since we are further south and also that people stay safe.

After packing and repacking my bags for my trip to Bathurst, it looks like I am going to be naked for the next 2 weeks as there is almost no room for clothes!
I'm ready to go now, but still have a couple of days to wait.

Hoping it won't be too cold!

lol have a ball in Bathurt, watch out for the coppers (revenue raising don't ya just love it) and gooooo The Swans!

lol have a ball in Bathurt, watch out for the coppers (revenue raising don't ya just love it) ...

I will have an awesome time :)
Meeting up with my fb in Sydney and we're going together - and I won't be driving at all (once we get there it'll likely be track all day, bed all night, and not much free time between :D )
*sigh
I cannot wait to get laid again.....

Oh - and I'm looking forward to the racing!
lol
