Aussies! Check in here!

Change is in the air!

Looks like I will be doing none of the stuff I mentioned a few posts up - instead I am flying up to Bris to help my fb drive back to Tassie... where we will be moving in together to see how we go...
I'm kinda excited and kinda scared at the same time.
So, I am heading out on the 12th Nov and should be back in Tas around the 16/17th.

We had such a great time together at Bathurst that this might just work :)

Hey WQ,

Hope it works out for you, anyway it's a new adventure and certainly living together is a test to see what the future may bring. Driving down the coast is certainly an interesting way to see the country or revisit places. Hopefully the weather holds out. Going to be doing my own trip to country tomorrow, going to be a very long day since I'll be driving back again.

Afternoon all,

Welcome to the new posters. Just get in there and post stuff, probably still a little cool to leave beers in the cooler, but its always time for cake.

Well what can you say about the US elections. If anyone was in doubt we live in the lucky country, there shouldn't be anymore doubt. Seems fear, hate and racism is now the new American norm so if those who supported Trump wanted to turn back the clock they got it, just a matter of which century. Planning to do some travelling OS in the next few years, guess I won't be going back to the US anytime soon. Never did learn to play the banjo or say "yes mass'er". On the positive side shows like SNL will have plenty of material for the next 4 yrs.

Well what a wind swept Spring we have had compared to previous years. Had to get the neighbour to fix his carport door, was keeping me up nights with all that noise.

Looking forward to the end of the year. Liking the Christmas food stuff out at the moment. Some new things to choose from so that should be fun to explore.

Things warming up around the country which makes you want to get out and do stuff. May do some day trips or overnighters around the state this Summer don't mind driving. Haven't done a road trip in several years.

Hope your weekend goes smoothly.

Where you going? Is it warming up over there, and are you enjoying the sunshine? I put in an order for you to get a daily dose of sunshine and smiles! :D

Edited:

Since I see you were posting, too.

We aren't going back to the dark ages or anything of the sort. Most of us are ready for a change. We want America to be great again, and it's just not happening. We keep voting for 'politicians, and they really haven't done much for us. Let's see what happens. We could be wrong, but at least we are trying.

(We did the best with what we had... that is such a shame, to have had two of the worst candidates ever.)

Hey there twinkle toes

Going to a family gathering in the country for a surprise birthday although not sure why that part of family keeps doing surprise birthdays since I have to show up at these major milestones anyway. Silly really, not much of a surprise.

I noted that a lot of Americans are praying that things go well, lets hope so but we are all global citizens these days we can't stay in our own villages anymore. I haven't seen such a backlash against an elected President is recent times it will take a lot of calm heads to keeps the lid on things and get on with running the country. We also have elected a business man to our top office in the land and he hasn't done much except kowtow to the power brokers in his party. He believed in same sex marriage before he was PM, now to stay in power he has killed it off as an option. He also can't relate to the average person in the country. So it hasn't worked for us. He was liked by a lot of people and seen as a positive option, not now.

Did see one of your posts on another thread and was going to say hi but lost the reference. I hope you are doing well.

Forgot to mention to give a thought today to all those who are serving and have served in the military. Lest we forget.

Lets hope we don't end up in yet more war zones due to recent events.

Today Nov 10 is the Marine Corps birthday, it is a big thing in our home with both my dad and brother serving. Tomorrow is even bigger and we will be taking my children to the Veteran's Home here in town to spend some time with there.

I felt the same way about Obama that many feel today about Trump. They are afraid. I understand that. I just want it to all settle down so we can work on pulling together instead of apart.

You are more than welcome to PM and say hello at any time. :rose::rose:

That's great. But Marine Corps birthday is hardly an Aussie thing.

Melbourne cup, yes - on the 1st Tuesday in November.
Remembrance Day - yes. 11th hour on 11th day of 11th month.
Also 11 November is the day Gough was dismissed.

And let's not even mention the cricket.

Don't forget the US is the strongest of all our allies and mutual respect has always be there between our two military forces.

Yep lets not mention the cricket.

Afternoon all,

Well the year seems to be winding down fast now. Christmas parties are only a few weeks away for some. Will be staying close to home this Christmas Day, no long drive for me this year, still be driving though.

I noticed the speed limits have been reduced yet again going thru Melbourne city, which just slows down thru traffic yet again and makes the journey longer. Thankfully I don't have to drive into the city centre much these days.

Rather warm day in Melbourne town yesterday first day over 30 since last Summer. Warm day even warmer car to get into. These modern cars sure do heat up quickly.

As for the cricket well the team has just forgotten how to bat. The fear of losing has got into their heads and stayed there. Not sure losing Rod Marsh is going to make much difference. Steve Smith hasn't much patience with the players as he shows on the field, the opposition can see what he's thinking. Can't be easy to play for him. Keep criticising someone and they start to believe they can't do it.

Hope everyone's weekend is an easy one.

Heya, Brissy peeps!
In a couple of weeks, I will be back up in Brisvegas for 2 nights...... thinking we should organise a meetup this time?!?
I'll be booking flights in the next fortnight, and will post here once I've done so.... :)

I don't know... there's something fascinating about the cricket... ;)
I think there's always something fascinating about the cricket, unfortunately it's not always what's happening out on the oval. It's now twelve months until The Ashes series returns with neither England or Australia in convincing form at present. Much may happen in that time.

I think England are looking rather more like a team all things considered...

Afternoon all,

Well the next test of SA vs AUS is about to start in Adelaide so we shall see how the new Aussie team does although people shouldn't expect too much from the new guys. If they go down fighting it will be at least a start. If they crumble then the experiment wouldn't of worked.

Certainly has been a weather event week in Melbourne town hot summer days at the start of the week now its rainy and cool, some may say cold with that wind chill. Was so warm a couple of days ago had to break out one of the fans, now may be using the heater tonight. Crazy weather.

Purchased one of the two big ticket items I need. Now have a new larger screen TV and the difference compared to the one I was using is stark. I like the new slim line design and the reduction in weight. Given that these digital TV's don't last that long, purchasing one for $3000 with all the bells and whistles just doesn't seem worth it. If you like the tech talk then talking to the salesperson about 4k HDR vs FHD vs all the other options you realise they don't fully understand it either. Even some of the remotes are like mini computers.

Hope the weather is not too bad where you are. It's certainly not a washing on line day here.

Hi again, I've been missing for a bit but back now (had 3 weeks of no internet!)

Do we consider the Aussie effort to be a success? Good to see the fresh blood firing, or blocking in Renshaw's case.

I had the internet and it still went off. They obviously don't give their mice the right type of cheese. Either that or the lucka band keeps breaking.

At this stage we'll take any win as a success. As for Renshaw I think the circumstances on the day got to him, plus he is still young so we can't be too harsh on him unless it becomes a pattern in his play. Only time will tell.

Afternoon all,

Well not long now till the end of this turbulent year. The last few months leaving a bit of a bad taste in the mouth, hoping the US gets it shit together in the new year.

Apparently we have rich backpackers visiting Australia to pick fruit. Good on you Malcolm that's the way to encourage tourists, tell them they don't really need to visit cause they're taking away jobs from pacific islanders. Not sure what backpackers he sees but the ones I see around Melbourne don't look rich and certainly wouldn't be staying in some of those hostels if they had a choice. Then again Malcolm probably thinks anyone who doesn't have a personal driver is a backpacker.

Well the weather certainly has turned to the warmer stuff in the last week. Whilst it hasn't been high temps in Melbourne it has been warmer than the temps would indicate. The cicadas have been in fine voice by mid afternoon. I see that a heatwave is coming to NSW and QLD in the next few days. Not that bad here in Melbourne town yet. It's just about painting weather again.

Seems part of the family have decided that Christmas lunch can happen on any other day but Christmas day, which means it's .....just lunch. Will confuse the hell out of Santa.

The word of the month seems to be "Cohorts". Every group whether political or with a common cause is now a "cohort" which is meant as another name for rabble.

Apparently they are now going to fence off the Parliament building. Not sure if that's to keep the pollies in or keep the peasants out. Apparently it's the building of the people unless those inside don't like you, then you're on the other side of the fence. Well that's one thing we are good at...putting people behind fences, no wonder Trump likes us.
