Aussies! Check in here!

It gets better!
Coles had to recall all their Aussie flags, because some underpaid, overworked child in China printed all the stars the wrong way round!

Well they are in the northern hemisphere so to them it probably looked ok and after all its only a Chinese copy so its not meant to look like the original. Then again where was Coles's quality control in all that, can't blame the subbie.

Afternoon all,

A welcome to the new posters. Just jump in and post stuff. WQ is the official custodian and torch bearer. Although not sure about her fish, personally I think they just want to make for the mainland.

Well finally the humidity is ending with some wet stuff. Not the high temps we have seen in the past for Jan here in Melbourne town but much more humid. Just had a thunderstorm come thru more on the way I believe. Hopefully the lightning hasn't caused anymore bush fires. Feb is usually hotter so one more month to go.

The tennis has had some issues with people getting injured or collapsing this year. The mum of a friend of mine from Sydney fell down some stairs at the tennis and damaged her hip. She is recovering fine so all is well in that case.

Well Jan has ended with two issues to deal with one a home plumbing issue and the other was a replacement of the vacuum which sort of blew a fuse, well not quite but the burning smell wasn't coming from anyone's BBQ. The new vacuum comes with multiple heads...like really! Do I really need more choice? Had to read the manual to figure out which one I should use for my place. It was like playing Pictionary. No a picture didn't replace a thousands words...in this case words would of been better. Had to down load the proper manual. Everything you buy now has an on-line fucking manual.

I see the kids are finally going back to school so its safe for me to venture forth to the shopping centres again. Ah the serenity.

Well, if it's not one thing....
Last week and weekend, Launy was blanketed in thick smoke haze from the bushfires. Yesterday the weather turned and many roads in Launceston were unuseable because they were under a metre or more of water!
Sadly, the rain has not really been useful for the fires - most has fallen on the east coast, and the worst fires are in the central highlands and west coast :(

I'm not really the custodian of this thread.... I was just in the right place when Laurel decided to shut down overly-large threads, and made this one so we'd have somewhere to go!
A lot of the old crowd has gone from lit tho *sigh*
I fondly remember back to the meets in Sydney and Perth.... affectionately known as G'n'Gs (Greet 'n' Gropes). Much fun! I'm sure we all scandalised the Sans Souci RSL!!!
I do keep in touch with several of the old crowd :)

G'day group - back from another long absence. Something about Lit is like a long elastic band - no matter how much I try to concentrate on other things and not let it distract me, I eventually spring back to see how everyone is doing!

(I refuse to post about weather though - I can talk about that on the train each day!).

Ah you see I don't go to work on the train, in fact these days I don't work, so posting here is like sitting on the park bench having a chat however given the use of what is called social media people are more likely to text each other even though they are sitting right next to them.

What's wrong with the weather, that's what most farmers talk about. Its humid right now by the way, the tradies a couple of doors down have even stopped hammering.

Well being in the right place at the right time is how one usually ends up with the job :D

However WQ (sugar tits) you are doing an excellent job  I notice other threads are being shut down which have been going for a while. Just like our old one was. Considering this thread isn't hit up as much as it used to be its still doing well.

Afternoon all,

Well its a new month already so not long now till Christmas. Easter is coming early this year which was pointed out by a friend of mine so the kiddies will be on holidays again next month. It seems the school holidays are every second month these days.

Looking at a couple of short local trips next month. Hopefully the bush fires would of moved on by then.

Hope those in Qld are surviving the heat. Would suggest a dip in the water but that's probably just as hot.

Gave the new vac a run today. Its so damn powerful had to reduce the power so I could push it over the carpets. Goodness knows what the turbo head is like. Does state not to keep it in one spot for too long. Sounds like someone was in danger of sucking up the cat with the cat hair. Possibly the hubby of said cat owner . " Dennis have you seen my pussy". "Not for a long time dear"

Lol - I did my vacuuming today as well.
Only mine is a teeny tiny yellow vacuum cleaner I got for $19, that sucks like a whore on meth!
Seriously.... this thing has so much suction that if I forget to put the brushes out when I hit the kitchen floor, I have to turn it off to release the suction!
I have nicknamed it the 'chihuahua' because for its size, it behaves like a rotty :D

I might be doing a cross-country trip in the near future - Launy to Perth. Need to move the remainder of my Mum's stuff over to her, and the easiest way is going to be by road (and a shitload cheaper than using a mover!)
Still some details to work out. And of course, no way in HELL would I do that trip in summer ever again!

Melbourne is situated in a bay, so the local beaches are so-so.
Having said that, there are beaches on the south coast that are accessable with just a couple of hours drive that are super-excellent for surfing, etc.

I'm a bit biased..... I adore Melbourne, especially St Kilda!

I'm off to Surfers Paradise in 3 weeks..........WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP!!!

Hi there Dom, just saw your message, sorry for the slackness in replying. Nice to meet you too. I'm bracing for the craziness of the school year starting again tomorrow, how's things over there?

Hey :D

So how did the craziness of school starting pan out?

Yeah good. We are in for 8 days of 40+ temps............phew!!!!!!

I was there before Xmas with my sis.
Stayed with a bestie in Cooloongup for a night. You do know my Mum lives in Cooloongup too?
So that's where I'll be heading to

I'm guessing that's not how they advertised the vac you purchased..."Yes folks for the discounted price of $19 the vacuum cleaner will suck up the dust like a whore on meth. Please be advised meth is not included in the contents."

Wow so I guess you're in for a long road trip or are you planning on putting the truck on the train? Never tried that, then again never taken the train to Perth. Tried to book one year but the cost was ridiculous. So flew instead.

Hey Dom,

Now you really do sound like a tourist :D. I'm guessing the locals are not that enthused by the news of temps that high for so many days in a row.

Saw that Brisbane has similar stuff and one bright person mentioned that it felt quite tropical...yeah no fucking kidding. Learnt my lesson of not going up north in the Summer time.

Afternoon all,

A quite Saturday in the neighbourhood except for the dude with the ladder on the building site a couple of doors down. Most people must be at the beach trying to get skin cancer.

Well you learn something new everyday or so. We now know that you can get the Zika virus from swapping bodily fluids with an infected person. So I guess getting a root in Brazil is a little more dangerous than before as one person has already found out.

The non-veg people must be saying I told you so. "That rabbit food will kill ya" Blokes all over the place are informing their spouses about the downside to the veg diet.

Its rather confusing at the stores. Not sure if they're gearing up for Valentines Day or Easter, then again you could give an egg to your significant other and they come already wrapped. Bonus!

I'll drive. It's not so bad - I've done it quite a few times now.
2 days if I drive straight thro, 3 if I camp :)

I've done a number of road trips to various places and probably wouldn't mind doing that one once but multiple times, well I'm not sure I've got the will to spend time that way. Besides I've been to Perth don't really have an urge to go back. Wouldn't mind doing the road trip to Adelaide, well actually the Adelaide Hills. Been to Adelaide city lots of times. Its a bit strange, I'm sure they have someone turn the lights out after 8pm.

Afternoon all,

Well the Superbowl has been won and lost. Was hoping the Broncos would win but surprised Panthers were nullified so well. Defence or rather D+fence won the day. Was a good tough game. Thought I saw Beyoncé almost fall and I was right but she kept going. Don't really think the crowd cared about the error she can't do any wrong.

Well its painting time for me. Although the start of the week wasn't helping with all that humidity. So far so good the temps are staying below 30 and thus far nothing like previous years. Hopefully it stays that way. Don't really appreciate sweating on the paint.

The St. Kilda Festival is on this coming weekend so more crowds and backpackers will descend on what is for the most part a quiet beach. A place to avoid if driving a car since they close off some of the streets. Annoying if you want to get through that part of the city. However if you're a tourist coming to Melbourne well its a prime spot to visit and try various foods.

See you there.

Alas I'll have a house guest by the weekend so my attention will be diverted elsewhere. Thinking of going down to Arthur's Seat for lunch and show the tourist that area since the weekend will be sunny and not too hot.

In the mean time need to finish of the painting task I set myself before my guest arrives and hopefully the paint fumes would of subsided by then.

Hope your day is going well.

We have Launy's Festivale this weekend. Loads of local craft beers to try :)
But having been to the St Kilda one, I am jealous as fuck.

Yep - thats a trip for a long day, leave Sydney by 5am to miss the trucks and pull up in Adelaide around 10pm. The second pub along in Narrandera has the coldest aircon for a pub lunch if you're crossing the Hay Plain at midday in the middle of summer.

Sure - after 8pm they turn on all the flashing lights in the churches they converted to nightclubs! That and the action isn't in the Hills - the hills are for winery tours by day. By night, after said winery tours, the action is on the coast around the beaches.

Or thats how it worked when I lived there 20 years ago ;)

People are constantly taking about how hot it is, but it is the hottest month (usually), in Perth in Summer........what did they expect? ha ha
