Aussies! Check in here!

Evening all,

Well the wind has done its best to disrupt the lives of humans who find nature quite inconvenient. Here in Melbourne it caused the usual chaos with lots of downed trees blocking roads and surprise surprise knocking out various train lines. Then just to top it all off the rain came down rather hard. As for me well I was nice and warm and dry in bed catching up on sleep I've been losing watching the World Cup. Whilst most people are going off to work I'm usually on my way back to bed. Now the tennis has started and next weekend the Tour de France starts...its like I'm doing shift work without the pay and no boss.

As for our effort in the World Cup..lets face it we were crap and just couldn't score. About time Aussie soccer woke up to being more about talent rather than politics and factions.

Dear Diary,

In this day of supposed equality its interesting how Life Insurance commercials continue to target men and make them feel guilty of not providing for others when they are dead. The irony of Life Insurance it doesn't benefit the payee as all other insurance does, so is it really insurance or a guilt payment?

Hi elf :)

I still have almost no voice - coming up to 10 days now.
Bacterial laryngitis, so on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories but it's taking time to get over it.
The kids reckon I've gone from sounding like a chipmunk, to C3PO, to smurfette on drugs.
Of course, they also think it's completely hilarious

Well at least the Socceroos can claim "Goal Of The Tournament" so far.....:D

Hey WQ

So I guess kissing is out as well then with that bacteria infection?:D

Now would you really expect any sympathy from family or friends so I'm not surprised the kids find it funny, but at least you don't have to give any lectures. I remember having a very bad throat infection and still expected to attend meetings even if I couldn't really speak. I used to lecture a lot and losing your voice was always that niggling thought. There is only so much hot honey and lemon drinks you can have.

Hope you get better soon:kiss: And don't forget chipmunks are rather cute...and if you think that not being able to talk will put off the guys...think again;)

Yep that's what losers usually concentrate on...as for goal of the tournament that came from us, the other teams would have their own ideas on that, I've seen some really good goals. The next phase is the serious stuff...more interrupted sleep in the next couple of weeks.

Afternoon all,

Welcome to all the new people. WQ is the unofficial torch bearer for this thread in the absence of Gil and she is doing is an excellent job of keeping it going.

Well yet another high wind day in Melbourne town today, Not a good day for hanging out the washing unless you want your neighbours to pick up your undies and in their backyard. Those who are familiar with Melbourne know that the Westgate Bridge can be a dangerous place to be on days like this. The cross winds can blow motorcyclists and cars across lanes.

Went to the other city in Melbourne yesterday and home of the Cats, i.e. Geelong. Cops love the highway between Melbourne and Geelong especially in the afternoon when everyone is going home, its like watching bears during the Salmon run.

True but I think Tim Cahills was pure genius!!! Superb effort.
Yes it does start getting serious next phase.....can't wait.

Really?? Winds that strong? I don't know the bridge to which you refer, but I'm guessing it's a suspension bridge of some sort?

The Westgate is not a suspension bridge - it's just a really, really high one.
I've never had an issue going over but I did see a truck in front of me get blown all the way over the lanes.

Wow!!!! Must have been scary as!!!

More scary is the fact that everyone in Melbourne tailgates..... changing lanes becomes an adventure in dodgem cars!
The bridge is not a problem, so long as you can control a car properly.
There's a LOT to be said for Advanced Driver Training (which I've insisted all my kids do as well).

WA Drivers aren't much better.......they should do the advanced course too....or better still, use the mirrors and indicators that are already fitted onto their vehicles.......
