Aussies! Check in here!

Afternoon all,

Yes the end of the week and what have we achieved....stuff. Possibly not earth shattering but just things that needed to get done. My repair job on the old clothes line seems to be working and I learned how to tie some new knots. Stuff you think you know till you do some research. The previous owner was one of those odd jobs guys. Smart idea to put the clothes line under the carport. No issue with the rain and I still don't own a dryer.

All the talk seems to be about water or rather the lack of it. Although having said that we have had multiple days of the wet stuff here in Melbourne town and in for more of it till late next week. Saw that NSW like VIC has had a dry Winter so far. Not looking good for the bushfire season. Apparently they are predicting that Melbourne will run out of water in the next ten yrs without the desalination plant given the rapidly increasing population. All those people coming south for jobs. Given that we are in the southern hemisphere, does that make Qld=Mexico? :D

So what is it with all these pollies and dual citizenship? Is it really an issue these days? Although the basic principle makes sense, why is citizenship to another Commonwealth country such a big deal, not like they care what we do locally.

The Aussies are doing well at the swimming champs, ok it's a lot of silver but at least they are doing their best. Just shows the depth of other teams like the US.

Found out that the road works on the Tulla going to/from the airport now has delays of more that 30 mins. This stuff has been going on since last year, not sure when it's all supposed to finish. So anyone leaving or coming to Melbourne just be aware that the airport run will take at least 30mins longer for a while yet.

Hope your weekend goes well.

probably both. ;)

and what happened to Footscray?

Last time I looked they are still there although these days they are called The Western Bulldogs. Must be more for the interstate viewers cause if you're from Melbourne then you already know they are from the west but it's inner west, like Kensington. But Franco Cozzo is still around.

i haven't really followed the footy since ... well, along time ago! 1979, when we left melbourne for karratha - and after that i went back to UK, etc.

i've seen the occasional game when in vienam. there's a large ex-pat community and a couple of sports bars. my mate is a tigers supporter, but he's okay. :D

Yep we seem to export our watching for the game to other countries kinda like cricket, no matter where us Aussies travel, when the cricket is on we're looking for a sports bar that is showing the match.

I was surprised as heck to see Aussie rules on US cable TV when I first went to the States in the 90's. As for cricket, well they just don't get it on any level.

No football talk
And I think the calm is before the storm is in Adelaide right now...it's a coming

It wasn't too bad, ok lots of windy stuff and rattling of windows and possibly teeth, but the roof stayed on.

No more footy talk, but yes but no but....how about swimming and women's rugby 7's then? :D

Could talk about my feelings...ah, yes well...nope got nothing.

Afternoon all,

Well its a bit warmer in Melbourne town today and the wind has all but moved on and tomorrow no rain. Off to buy stuff at Officeworks tomorrow and hopefully a new suitcase as well. Just got to have wheeled versions these days with these larger airports.

Seems the queues at airports are going to get longer with the higher alert thanks to those dicks planning that attack in Sydney. We'll end up having to be at airports a couple of hours earlier just to get on domestic flights. Still it could be worse, we could have the TSA system they have in the US.

Discovering new things with this photo scanning. Discovered the spot fix option on Windows Photos, can even get rid of things on the original photo. I like it as quick fix.

Oh yes I believe the footy is still on...sorry... broke the rule of footy club... we don't talk about footy club.

Hope your weekend is going well

In the eastern suburbs of Melbourne there were many trees that came down in the wind, one of which blocked Burwood Highway. Fortunately no damage at my place.

Swimming? Does anyone talk about that?

Batten Down

Wow the weather looks like it's gonna get real nasty, and starts tonight here in SA. They closed a road (main one to Adelaide) near where I live for the entire weekend in case of rock falls!

Big wind lots of rain and vic. is next. Will make for an interesting Showdown on Sunday. Oops that was footy talk, be safe all.

I'm in the south east so it wasn't as bad, wouldn't like to be living in the northern suburbs since that is generally a storm corridor, no doubt they got hit worse with the recent rain, more on the way for the weekend as I've seen on the radar. Will see what brings. Adelaide is copping it at the moment.

We only talk about swimming when we win, hence why not much on the news since we mainly got silver at the world's.

Afternoon all,

The weekend is here, kinda, not that it makes much difference to me these days. Had a win on the tax yesterday, seems like I will be getting a nice refund and one I wasn't expecting.

Went shopping for a new smaller suitcase and found a bargain although it did take a lot of walking around a rather warm shopping centre. They obviously keep the same temp all year round. So I was sweating inside and freezing my arse off outside. No wonder people get sick. As for searching websites for Big W and Kmart, they basically suck on their search functions.

Not impressed that I had a buy a new mobile today. Only got the notification yesterday that the 2G network was being turned off before I received the notification even though they have my email. The letter was dated 5 July...WTF! Where was this letter a month ago?

It's funny that if you just want a mobile to make calls on it's somehow a low end option. After the 4 Corners report this week on cyber security, we should go back to using pigeons like they did last century. Can't hack a pigeon and it can't repeat anything you say. So there you have it... a low tech solution. Give it another 20yrs and writing things of paper will look like something from the ancients.

For those in the south, hope you manage to stay warm and dry over the weekend.

Just had a gale warning pop up for my area of Vic...will be an interesting weekend.

Hoping everyone stays safe during this weather!

A cold and wet weekend forecast for Tassie....
Just the kind of weather I need to finish getting organised for surgery next week - precooking meals to be brought in by my kids because I won't eat the crap they call 'nutrition', getting the house organised so my 20 year old kidley can have minimal stress while I'm gone, making sure all my stuff is in order 'just in case'.
I will be laid up for a couple of weeks after, so expect to see me here more

Hey WQ

Hope the hope the surgery went well. Yep hospital food isn't good then again it's not supposed to be since they want you out as soon as possible. The current weather is very much "stay inside" motivating. I just look out at the front garden and debate about going out to do stuff or stay inside with a coffee with a blanket. Good weather to catchup on DVD viewing.

Afternoon all,

Well it's hump day and the Humpback Whales are migrating north in more numbers. Just don't tell the Japanese otherwise they will be out there doing their "scientific research".

Went to the city yesterday to do some souvenir shopping also purchased some Haigh's chocolates to take on my visit up north on the weekend. Of course I bought some for myself since I was there but I did walk back to the station. Anyone visiting the city at the moment would think we are we are remodelling the whole place. So much construction going on.

Plebiscite to postal vote to non-binding people's say. Kinda like the question we had about being a republic when Johnny Howard was in charge when we could only vote on what the govt wanted not what we wanted. They just don't get it.

Haven't done any exercise since Winter set in and haven't gained any weight. Will have to get back to it later in the month as the knee is starting to hurt again. I even found a pair of jeans I forgot I had and since I've lost weight they actually fit. Had to send the old pair to the clothing charity since they fell off as soon as I put it on.

So recycling glass is a complete waste of time. Wonder what else we are recycling is just putting money in private company's bank balances? And the EPA has been in on it. Not only is the fox guarding the hen house, but the door is wide open.

Hope your week goes easy.

Old Brandis gave the game away earlier... essentially admitting that the only point of the postal nonsense was to avoid an internal Liberal Party punch up. What a splendid use of $120m!

Hey Zach,

Yep that's what we all know. Maybe the Libs would be willing to refund the money from their private industry donations and Chinese investors. Either way they are carrying on as a party in disarray and one that will lose the next election. They can blame the Abbott faction when that does happen. Assuming they believe they have a problem.

But Abbott is their saviour! We know this because he tells us and he knows the mind of the great Australian public :D

He's just pissed off that they removed his ability to be knighted. Apparently in his latest rant he has urged people to vote No to same sex marriage as it is also a vote against being PC. He seems to be regressing a couple of centuries. May be if he keeps regressing he'll get stepped on by a dinosaur. The Libs are just making themselves more irrelevant, Labour must be thinking it's Christmas.

Ha ha... indeed!
Don't forget that they're ably assisted by Joyce and his death grip on coal fired power stations... even in the face of energy companies saying they don't see a long-term future for them... Your Abbott trampling dinosaur might emerge from a pile of fossil fuel :D
