I know people were concerned about losing civil liberties after last Tuesday's tragedy, but I hadn't considered that we'd lose our right to watch TV. Conan O'Brian came back on the air last night saying he wasn't going to be funny because it was inappropriate. I disagree. To me that sounds like terrorist have robbed us of our laughter. Television is our culture. Why are we taking it away from ourselves?

I'm an American, I have the right to change the channel, and get a different show. I live in the great county of 100 plus channels, and I don't want that to change. I also have the right to laugh at Conan O'Brian, who makes a much better as a comedian than a news reporter. In light of possibly 5,000 dead this may seem trivial, but having them take away our television and comedy makes it feel like they won.
:(

Aternate thread title:

57 channels, only one thing on.

i'm with you beck....i have been glued to cnn for days, i need the laugh.....i need those guys to lighten up......laughing doesn't mean we've forgotten.....it means we will not let them WIN.....

I thought that your alternate thread title was how it's been, and that's why I don't watch television. ;)

Really though, I don't know if I could stay the wreck of emotional waste forever, that I've been all last week, until about Saturday or Sunday, and I still have my moments, but I must smile or I'll rot.

I think that comedians need to do their jobs and help make us smile again too. It is hard at a time like this to find joy, so they could help by making us laugh. Just because one person may be being funny, doesn't mean they are being disrespectful or tasteless.

I, for one, am trying to be funny again on lit, so hopefully I can make someone laugh or smile.
I hate the gloominess of tragedy, but it is very real too, so many may not want to feel 'good' because they feel guilty, because so many are suffering.
I know I feel bad for it, but I can't not go on with my life, or I do no one any good.
