The Islamic militants are playing a dangerous game. They obviously wish to undermine the Coalition and give Washington another headache besides Israel that it neither wants nor needs.
With Pakistan and India as co-combatants in the Coalition there is an uneasy peace in the region. They are hoping to shatter it and force Pakistan to withdraw it's necessary support. They're playing with fire, however, because if they succeed, the repercussions could be catastrophic. The military balance between India and Pakistan has altered considerably since they last took up arms in earnest against each other.
Israel and the Palestinians, India and Pakistan are two flashpoints the U.S. and it's allies can't afford to ignite.
