I wonder about it too, I think it's based on misogyny, that on some level they feel entitled to a response or an interaction. I've seen some of friends do things like this and it's painful to watch--on both parties' account.

I had a few responses that came to mind - but in the end, I just decided not to engage. He/It wasn't worth my time and effort.
