I see it both ways, although it tends to be L before the G now. Usually it's the letters that are left out that cause the biggest fuss.

No cherry picking, desperation or blindness going on, just saying both ways are used legitimately. I've seen both personally. Things change organically.

The one reason I have seen most often is that the change was made because historically the movement was known as "gay rights", "gay pride", etc.. "Gay" has generally been associated with men now though. So the L and G were swapped by a number of groups out of what comes down to "political correctness" for the most part.
